2 Dipsy per side question before i end up with a mess!
landingzone replied to MarkNY's topic in Tackle and Techniques
It helps if you let the second diver creep out so that it pulls to the outside rather than dropping too quickly. -
You might want to check out this thread: http://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-forum/139072-trailer-brakes-disc-vs-drum.html

You didn't mention if you have just one axle or more. Some dual and triple axle trailers only have brakes on the front axle. Adding brakes to the second axle would make a big improvement. In any case, I think disc brakes are much more powerful than drums for this application. There are kits to convert drums to discs. They require a coupler specific for discs.

Had a 2450 for about 5 years. It is a solid boat and trailerable. I had the 4.3L V6 Mercruiser and it performed well but was slightly underpowered given the weight of equipment we tend to get on our trolling boats. Switched to a 4 blade prop and made a significant improvement. Vent windows were not mounted well and came out twice while trailering. Not much air movement under the hardtop on hot days. Two issues that I really didn't like were: 1) the floor is wood and there is no direct drain in the cockpit (goes into bilge) for blood, slime.etc. I had to have the floor replaced due to rot. 2) Galvanic corrosion is an issue on aluminum boats docked in the water and mine got pitted below the water line, mostly on the transom (fixable but still an issue). Many positive compliments at the launch ramp. Here are a couple pics of mine. If you want more info, PM me.

Black Biting Flies while trolling on Lake Ontario

I'm looking into the Sitex SP-110 autopilot with Remote Mechanical Drive for use on my 270AJ with twin 4.3L Mercruiser outdrives. I'm generally getting favorable reports but most users are not using them for trolling as we do. Set up with the Remote Mechanical Drive, they are used on mechanically steered boats. Since only one engine has the power assisted pump for steering, I asked Sitex if the SP-110 would have enough power to steer the combination of both outdrives when operating on the non assisted engine alone. Their reply was there is sufficient power for that application. I'm looking for any information from those on LOU who have any experience with this product used in salmon trolling. Thanks, Dick

Niagara Proam

Congratulations to Rick and the rest of the Yankee Troller Team! They managed to take bigger fish than we did on day 2. A funny story I told Rick was that we had to keep an 18.5" king for about our 6th fish. When we finally got our 12 fish, we pulled all the lines. As we reached for the last dipsey rod, it hammered down, eventually yielding about a 22# king, which we had to put back. The good news was, it didn't matter. Even if we had been able to keep it, it wouldn't have been enough. We were very happy with 2nd! Complete score sheet is on the Pro Am website. The Pro Am committee did a great job of getting the results posted quickly! -
Put it in at Bear Cr. today and all went well. Plenty of water. Thanks for all the input. Dick

Thanks HM. I should draw similar to him and lake has come up some. Thanks Ess for the input. I know it could be better. I just talked to the town and they said they are putting the docks in today. Dick

Anyone used Bear Creek launch in the last few days? I need to launch my 27' Sea Ray somewhere to get it to my dock in Pultneyville. I draw about 2.5'. I wonder if I could get it in there and into the lake w/o problem. Thanks for any info, Dick

As YT said the end caps are an issue like other brands. I need to glue mine (4) as suggested above. Currently, I just have them wrapped & overlapped w/black electrical tape. I did manage to pinch my finger in a tight spot on them once last year, but I don't really know how it happened. All in all, they are very nice.

Not really so much as to how we named it but the evolution of the boat logo on the transom. My first Landing zone was a 24.5 Sea Ray Amberjack and the letters were a variation of a stock script. My second was a 31 Ft Baha and since one of my sons is a graphic designer he created the first logo below (note the characteristic Baha top). For various reasons, I downsized next to a 24' Lund Genmar Sportcabin. The next image shows how the logo was modified to represent tthe Lund. Lastly, I went larger again to a 27" Sea Ray Amberjack and my son modified the logo again to reflect that change. Thought someone might appreciate the sequence.

Clipper Planer Board Releases?
landingzone replied to Primetime Pete's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I use the half hitched rubber band to the backer when pulling 350'+ copper from the big boards. It smooths surges in the heavy pull keeping the "line" in the clipper. Mkes sure you adjust the clipper so that a streched rubber band will pull through on a hit. You will also have to remove/break the rubber band before it enters the reel, unless your line guide will accept it. -
I got a response from Senator Mike Nozzolio stating that he will support the new bill when it comes up.

Dipsy Setting Question
landingzone replied to Guppy35's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I'm still struggling a little with numbers for setting 2 dipsys per side. All say to run the deeper diver (say #1 setting) closest to the boat. Then most advise letting out 10-100' more out on the outside diver (say setting #3) to maintain separation. Looking at "Precision Trolling", that would usually put the outside diver at or below the depth of of the inner diver. I thought, the outside line was supposed to be higher? Help?
