I was wondering how many people would be in favor of a 3 rod per person limit on Lake O. I know Lake Michigan has it.
-
Carpedium, I use 30 lb. Mason Tip up line. The 30 or 40 is what I have found heavy enough to not get bitten off by large toothy critters. I use a Sampo swivel between the tip up line and the leader.

I hear you on that one. I tried walking on Braddocks the other day after duck hunting. 1 1/2" with some open holes scattered all over. Not long as long as the weather cooperates.
-
I run 3' leaders. I have not tried shorter (unless I was fishing Braddocks).

Spoonfed-1, Before ripping the impeller out, check the line that comes out of the engine back to the block. I had a spider make a nest in my old outboard and the smae thing happened. Cleaned it out and I was good to go.

Cheers, 30 or 40 lb. Seagar is great pike leader material. I have been using it the past couple seasons and getting more flags on pressured bodies of water.

That's intersting. I don't know how many times last season on Sandy, I fished a pool that was just hammered for hours by 2 guys with pin rods and brown sacks and pick a bunch of fish out of the pool after they said they had not caught a fish in an hour. Lots of times the trout get keyed in on single eggs. When this happens, sacks are not going to catch as many fish.

IMO Trout eggs work but not worth the hassle. You can have a sloppy drift and fish will still take them. Nothing beats a properly dead drifted glow bug in the correct size and color. Me, I can't see going through the hassle of curing eggs when a glow bug takes seconds to tie and works just as good if not better if fished correctly. I also can't see killing a trout for eggs to catch more trout? It does not make sense to me. If you are keeping them to eat or giving them to someone else to eat, I see nothing wrong with keeping eggs.

Nice boat. Looks brand new. Good luck with it.

Rob, There is a guy out on Center Rd in Kendall. His name is Howard. He is just South of RT 18. I will get you the phone number and post it later today.

carv0, I hear ya on the bait cost. I spend a fortune on bait during the icefishing season. It sucks but it is here to stay. I was just as upset when it first happened. After seeing the die off of walleyes on Conesus (my favorite icefishing lake), it made me rethink what I thought about the regulations.

I do not fish the Pro Ams because of the cost of traveling, gas, docking fees, and lodging. I'm looking at fishing at least one this summer with my buddy. I have mentioned this before but everyone jumped all over me, add a Monroe County Pro am. This way more of the Rochester area guys that can't afford to trailer their boats and pay for lodging could enter. I know this will screw up the lake cup but I think it would get more people to enter that had not entered before. I would do it in a heart beat. I have read the rules and agree with most. I don't really like the no cull rule for the earlier tournies. I think a cooler full of skippers makes for a less competitive tourney. It makes it more competitive when you have to make the decision to throw it in the cooler for points or throw it back and risk a limit.

Mike, Diver rods are made to support the weight (pull) of a dispey diver. As for line, I would go with 1000' of 30lb stainless steel wire. I prefer Malin brand wire. You can also use Mason brand wire. The spools run around $50.00. Mono will not get you deep enough in the summer time for the most part.

carv0, These bait regulations are to keep VHS disease from spreading to other lakes rivers and streams. Yes the new laws suck but I would rather deal with new regualtions over losing or damaging a fishery. Would you be happy if someone caught minnows out of an affected waterway and introduced them to these rivers? It is a statewide ban to keep everyone honest. People would catch bait out of an affected area and say they caught them somewhere else to save a buck. In a perfect world, selecting certain affected waters and banning bait would work. Unfortunatly we live in a society that has a ton of skumbags living in it. People don't care about anything but themselves. I have seen the damage in Conesus Lake and Lake Ontario. Lots of dead fish floating up all over the place. In Conesus, it seems to affect smallmouth bass and walleye the most. Conesus had 4-10 lb walleyes floating up on the shore daily in June a couple of years ago. Lake Ontario muskies, smallmouth, sturgeon, and other species took a hit from VHS. VHS seems to have died off mostly or completly. I have not seen the damage the past couple of Junes.

Like the guys said above, read this site and ask questions. I used to fish the lake in a 14' aluminum boat. The Spring LOC derby is a great small boat derby. We used to bang the shore for browns during the spring derby and do really well in the derby. You are very versitle with that boat. You could trailer it to the bar and fish kings and lakers or stay around your home port and bang the shoreline for browns. You will have to pick your days but thats all part of the fun.

If I were you guys, I would stear clear of Conesus Saturday. There is a big bass tourney there. I was going to go with my father but decided to go perching instead. That place will be a zoo all day. The pike were 15 - 18 the other day. For bigger ones, fish deep edges of the drop offs.

I cover mine with a tarp and 2x4 frames that I made. I took saw horse brackets and added 2 x 4's to then. These are my upright supports. I then put 2 12' 2x4's together to make 1 24' 2x4. I place the 3 supports equally down the middle of the boat. Place the 24' 2x4 in the supports and screw them in. I also put carpet on the bottom of each 2x4 to keep it from damaging the boat. Drap tarp over it and tie it tight to the trailer. I had to put carpet on the corners of the windshield and other corners. It was really cheap and kept all the snow off. I made it 5 seasons with the same tarp and framing.
