Niagara’s Lake Ontario Pro-Am Salmon Tournament Celebrates 30 Years with Second Event! January 6th, 2014 Niagara’s Lake Ontario Pro-Am Salmon Tournament Celebrates 30 Years with Second Event! The Lake Ontario Pro-Am Salmon Team Tournament will be celebrating a milestone in 2014 when the Niagara County event – based out of the ports of Wilson and Olcott – will hold its 30th Anniversary contest May 31-June 1, 2014. For three decades, this fishing competition has been pitting teams of anglers against one another in one of the biggest tests of skill on the Great Lakes. Scoring is based on 10 points per fish and a point per pound over two days of fishing, using special tournament minimum lengths and restrictions over two days of fishing. To help reel in this overall celebration and with the recent announcement that Orleans County will NOT be holding a Pro-Am event in 2014, Niagara tournament organizers are now announcing that they will be expanding the tournament to include a second weekend for 2014 – by offering a two day event May 24-25. All the rules will be the same (as last year) in both tournaments; each will be treated as independent events. The West Challenge Cup will be based on point totals for both Niagara events combined. To help celebrate the anniversary, over $130,000 will be up for grabs based on 50 boat fields for each division and each event. In addition, the Recreational Open Division will also be an option for amateur anglers looking to compete for each day of the tournament as separate events, based on boat participation for cash and prizes. As always, each of these Niagara events will be 100 percent payback as far as the prize structure is concerned. Mark your calendars and make plans for the biggest tournament events of 2014! More will be posted soon … http://www.lakeontarioproam.net/

Twelve lb Mono for Kings, no thank you! Probably a great fight but I cant imagine fishing with 12# through july and august. Light line may put more fish in the boat but i think a better setup can be achieved with fluorocarbon leaders. My spoon set up consists of 20lb Mono main line with 20lb fluorocarbon leaders when kings are around.

Help with snelling hooks with fluorocarbon
Legacy replied to vetting's topic in Tackle and Techniques
There is no better tip then tying leaders with a fly tying vise. Its a great help. Dont short yourself by using mono instead of fluorocarbon. Fluorocarbon has proven itself to be unmatched in its performance and durabilty as leader material. Fluoro may be harder to work with but in the end it will be worth it. Make sure you keep your knots wet. Fluoro has very little short term memory so make sure to keep constant pressure on the line while tying. Choose a quality fluorocarbon line (my top choice would be Blood Run). Another thought is, if your only using a single hook then i would suggest a palomar knot. Unmatched break strength and certainly easier to tie. -
Happy New Year LOU!

My replacement hook is VMC 8540BN. Discovered the hook while i was trying to eliminate the "hodge podge" of replacement hooks on the boat. Now everything on the boat has them. Spoons, plugs, sticks, flies, meat rigs. Premium hook that wont break the bank. Chemically sharpened, cone cut, vanadium steel, black nickel finish. available in all sizes. Extremely sharp out the box and reasonably easy to resharpen.

Setting up for a copper rig
Legacy replied to Frogger's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
My understanding is that his high speed Convectors are Convectors with the guts of a high speed clarion. Awesome upgrade for the Convectors. -
Setting up for a copper rig
Legacy replied to Frogger's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
fyi...Line counter reel is not necessary for copper A berkley line counter is only used for putting the desired amount of copper on the reel for the first time. You should never use a reel line counter to do this job because it will not be accurate. -
Setting up for a copper rig
Legacy replied to Frogger's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Before you make a decision and a purchase I think it would be important to decide what depths you hoping to fish with your setups? Im an Okuma guy. So my setups are Okuma Clarion CLR553LS w/ Okuma Classic Pro GLT copper rods (cp-cl-862m). In my opinion, the best copper setup out there. http://www.okumafishing.com/product/view/reels/star-drag-reels/clarion http://www.okumafishing.com/product/view/rods/salmon-steelhead/classic-pro-glt Blood Run 45# copper, 50# braid backing, and fluorocarbon leader is a perfect Lake Ontario setup. http://www.bloodruntackle.com/ Otters are really nice but your boards will do just fine. And definitely run boards. They will give you a chance to run multiple setups and get them away from the boat (out of the way and out of trouble).
