  1. Initial deployment is really all about what you want in the water first. Typically i try to get a long line in the water while im sending the probe rigger down. Some days though it may be a wire diver instead of a long line, and somedays it may only be the probe rigger. It depends entirely about what i know about the current fishing conditions (where temp is, where active fish are, etc). You dont have to run 10-12 rods. As you feel comfortable put another rod out. More lines in the water = more chances of a tangle. And yes it will happen. You havent lived until you have had to untangle a 450 copper and a wire diver. Keep it simple. I would suggest working from the middle of the boat to the outside. Start by setting riggers. These will be the fastest four lines in the water (it gets you fishing faster). If your running 4 riggers then your middle 2 should be your deep ones and the 2 off to the sides shallower ones. Then deploy divers (inside diver first). I use a .5 setting on the inside and a 2.5-3 on the outside. Then long lines (off boards).
  2. I have always hated spooling wire line also so i purchased a Berkley Line winder to make things a little easier. http://www.berkley-fishing.com/products/tools-and-equipment/classics/spooling-station-portable It made things alot more manageable then in the past. I would highly suggest before you use any wire reel to go out into the lake, deploy all of the wire, and reel it on under the pressure of a tripped diver or 1# lead ball. As for backer... I just respooled 4 Okuma Cold Water 30s with 100' of 50# mono then 1000' Blood Run SS wire and it filled the spool perfectly.

  4. Church walleye boards are plenty for flatlining browns and they will do good for short coppers and leadcore also. TX-44s are the answer for big coppers (300'+) and are a little overkill for brown fishing.
  5. I buy my shrink tubing from Lowes. The brand name is "Ideal" and I believe its 3/16" or 1/8"???
  6. FYI... The Sandy Creek public launch docks will be going in today and tomorrow.
  7. France??? wow! Welcome to LOU!
  8. walleye or TX-22 will do just fine for 10 colors. TX-44 are good for big coppers of 300' or more and are a little overkill for a ten color.
  9. Welcome to LOU!
  10. Great company to deal with and a great product! They will size up your boat and set you up with exactly what you need
  11. Thats because leadcore rarely achieves depths of 50'+ without additional help. A copper setup is the answer to this question though. Copper will achieve depths of 22' down per 100' out bu there is some obvious variation depending on speed, current, etc. Copper is what your looking for!
  12. He is the "long term" forcast from NWS this morning? http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=BUF&product=AFD&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1&highlight=off
  13. Great video!

  15. https://www.okumafishing.com/product/view/reels/linecounters/cold-water Okuma Cold Water reels were designed and built to replace the old Clarion line counters. My understanding is they were built on the Clarion platform but with obvious exterior changes along with some upgrades. The Cold Water series was designed to appeal to the specifically "trolling" crowd (Pacific Northwest and Great Lakes). I currently run all Convectors and have been very happy with them. The jump to the great Catalina series is not something im looking to do yet but the price for the Cold Water series is very inviting. I have not run the Cold Water series at all but I did just resently purchase a bunch of them to upgrade some of my convectors. Ill be giving them a good test this season on my diver setups and also the riggers. My plan is to fish both side by side. If all goes well then i will be replacing all of my convectors with cold waters this year. Ill certainly report my findings.
  16. good to know!
