Biggest kings for us always seem to come between 11am and noon. Early morning bites can be fast and furious for all species/sizes but once things slow down the big kings are still on the feed. Since the mature kings have larger bellies to fill they will feed well in to the morning. After 9-10am is best during a full moon.

For Salmon - Best bets are Wilson/Olcott - May-mid June, Oak mid June end of July. Sandy - mid June - early August. Rochester July-mid Aug, east of Rochester (fairhaven, sodus, oswego, salmon, ect) Aug-Early Sept. General movement from west to east between May and Sept, but but if conditions are stable any port can be on fire, especially from mid-June - Sept. Also, many ports offer very stable fishing for resident brown/laker fishing all year. Also, watch the reports as each year can be different. Last all year ports were hammering kings April-Aug and it didn't matter where you were.

Congrats on your finish. Our hook/land ratio was the worst ever! We worked 350-450 a little west and did not have a problem getting bit. Landing anything was a different story:( Only managed 3 legal fish each day with well over 20 bites on Sat and at least 15 on Sun. Solid hook-ups with fishing taking line and/or jumping and then off! Cores were best but fish would come off as we were bringing them in. Very frustrating. Lots of little kings which was nice to see but didn't help our box. Still had a great time and will be back next year.

Never mind. Just spoke with Mike Waterhouse. Late in getting paperwork out. Pick up at the weigh in line on the first day. 16 in for Sat and 14 for Sun. Should be a good competiton.

I registered online a couple weeks ago and never really recieved any confirmation. Gave my credit card and submitted but didn't recieve a confirmation e-mail or anything. How do you know if you are actually registered? If I remember last year we recieved paperwork in the mail. Thanks, DR

Just an FYI that online registration needs to be done 14 days beofore tourney starts...basically today. If you missed, they will take cash the day before. Hope to see many competitors there! DR

I think they just get super spooky and much less bold in clear water.

If there was only one piece of advice I can give you it would be to find the right water clarity. Green/Slightly stained water = FISH ON! Leader length/lure selection won’t matter as much as the fish will active with this water clarity. Only have clear water and muddy water and the fishing will be difficult. Muddy water try bright/gaudy lures, clear water try natural colors with light line and long leads to try and get some bites, but most likely the fishing won’t be great in these conditions. If your in shallow, run a orange or pink stick just outside the prop wash. I've actually caught coho in july, 5 ft down, 10 ft back while attaching my cheater line with 70+ degree surface temps.

I thought I saw somewhere that the new Fish Hawk now shows actual depth of your ball as well. There is nothing about it on their site. Has anybody else heard this or know if this is true? Thanks, DR

Tomb, coming back on the 24th. Thinking about doing the nearshore charter for permit, bonefish, tarpon, snapper, shark etc. Will have the wife with me and I hear the offshore gig this time of year can be hit or miss. DR

Thanks fisherman21. If everybody agrees that the Genny has zero natural reproduction it seems odd that are we seeing fish being caught with their adipose fin intact. Just questioning the validity of the adipose fin in determining natural vs stocked. I'd hate to see future stocking decisions based on this info. DR

Just curious if anybody is still catching a large percentage of natural mature fish (with adipose) from any place other than the Salmon River now that most of these fish should have made it back to the Salmon River. Would seem odd if we were catching a lot of wild fish staging off of places like Olcott, the Genny or the Oak where there hasn’t been any documented natural reproduction. Reports from the Salmon River are that the majority of the fish they are catching there have their adipose fins. In places that have little natural reproduction I would expect these to be few and far between. Worthy of a conversation…I think. Thanks DR
