  2. Being a Canadian citizen in Canadian waters may make a difference a US citizen may get a different treatment. The law states that a flare gun is considered a weapon in Canada. I’m not taking a chance on going to jail in Kingston and having my boat and equipment confiscated. When in Canada , obey Canada’s laws Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. A flare gun is considered a weapon in Canada. With all the new rules and regs concerning international waters and checking in , I think drifting into Canadian waters is no longer an option. There seems to be zero tolerance for mistakes your GPS is your life line here And yes , confiscation of your boat and equipment is a definite concern Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. Check prices with your agent or company. If you chose replacement value , they will replace your boat if total loss. Actual cash value is the market value of your boat , minus any depreciation. You will never be able to replace your boat for what they will settle for Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. I have had boat US in the past. One thing to consider. Actual cash value or replacement cost. If you choose actual cash value. The adjuster will get the book value of your boat and then nickel and dime you for depreciation. You will probably get a settlement but no where near what will replace your baby. Been there. Replacement cost is way more expensive. But maybe worth it in the long run Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. A definite alternative. But for nighttime signaling only. You still need a daytime signaling device. Flag or flares most electronic devices come with a flag in a kit Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. I think this is where there is a lot of confusion. We are dealing with two separate governing entities. The NY state DEC has rules and regulations that are separate ( but can’t supersede ) the federal CG rules and regulations. NY regs state that you must carry a daytime signaling device ( flag , etc . ) but the CG could care less about a flag so the DEC or the Sherriff or troopers may ask for it , but the CG won’t. They never said it was going to be easy Lol Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. That was an oversite in the coastie’s part. He should have. Expired flares will get you a ticket and perhaps a trip back to the dock. End of voyage for the day Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. The CG and CG Auxillary and the SP have told me that you are encouraged to carry outdated signaling devices (flares) as back ups. Just make sure you gave at least 3 unexpired flares on board if someone got a ticket for having extra flares on board , they better plead not guilty and head for court and also file a complaint with the issuing agency. Someone is mis informed
