  1. We just made that conversion this spring. Fished the Wilson KOTL, our first salmon tourney. Be up to the Bar area on Labor Day weekend. Hopefully all the big boys and girls are in tight and at home by then.
  2. That drive from Ohio keeps getting shorter and shorter doesn't it K-Gone? Keep it up and you will soon lose your affinity for fishing in incessant 2 to 4s (or more) to reel in dirty socks, that taste really good, but just CAN'T hold a candle to a 20# something King rippin' off hundreds of feet of line in the same amount of time you can reel in an 8# 'eye. God Bless Lake Ontario!
  3. Thanks Billy V. Look forward to seeing you at the Capt.'s meeting on Friday. Hope the weather cooperates... Thanks for the report!
  4. Anybody else having trouble gettin' on the 'Pullers????
  5. SW II in the house... Stayin' in the 'cott. Just look for the big OLD Starcraft.
  6. 3 teams in the top 10 are deep ties to Lake Erie... 4th place: Pete Alex charters out of Erie, PA (Vision Quest) 5th place: Capt. Paul just fished in our spring tourney and I believe is an Erie native. (Free Spirit) 9th place: Capt. Todd charters out of Erie, PA/Conneaut, OH (Pacific Time) Go get 'em PA boys!
  7. We'll see you soon Richard. Memorial Day comes a bit early this year...
  8. Name: Matt Cannon / Jimmy Zarembinski Boat Name: STORM WARNING II Boat Name Origin: The boat's previous owner was a close fishin' friend (who if any of you have ever fished out of Conneaut, OH probably know or have seen at Snug) and when he passed, one of the contingencies of sale (We got a great deal) was that we had to take old Jack's ashes and spread them across the central basin of Lake Erie. In an attempt to further honor Jack, we kept his call name for the boat adding a II to assure our identities apart from Jack. Boat Make 1985 23' Starcraft Holiday, COMPLETELY refurbed but for the original outboards. Home Port: Conneaut, OH Lake E. / Youngstown/Olcott Lake O. Years Fishing Lake O: 5, and loving every minute of it.
  9. Boom removal was initiated 4/15 last year per the PDF I received from the IJC this morning. Boom removal IS to begin today unless wind conditions from approaching major low make it unsafe.
  10. Got this emailed to me today... I am responding to your question posed at the New York Power Authority web site. The removal of the ice boom is governed by the International Joint Commission and NYPA crews handle the removal as directed. You are correct in your assumption that boom removal occurs on April 1 unless there is more than 250 square miles of ice in the Lake East of Long Point. We are very close to that threshold based on the latest observations. It is my understanding that the International Joint Commission will issue a statement later today that would indicate, weather permitting, boom removal could begin on Monday, April 6. NYPA stands ready to handle its work once directed by the IJC and weather conditions provide a safe environment to handle the task. You can certainly check back with me on Monday for an update. 11. You're a little closer to the action now Billy! What port are you now calling home?
  12. When is the ice dam coming out??? Don't know why it isn't working, but the image below is supposed to be a recent MODIS image showing little ice left.
  13. Keep up the reports Jeb... Won't be long and the first King of the year will hit somebody's deck...
  14. I love the Fort launch!!!! Lots of good memories heading out to the red can from there. If you are a little late getting out of bed, can be a fantastic photo op watching the sun rise just around or over the Fort itself.
  15. Never used them for Salmon fishing because every time we fish for them they are too deep to reach with a jet effectively. Jets are uni-directional divers. You can't run them out to a side or create dispersion from another one. They go straight down. We run them for spring 'eyes off of the big boards. Jets have NO release mechanism, but are easily "jolted" off plane and provide little resistance when reeling them in with a fish on the business end.
  16. Hey King Chaser, Email me when you get a chance and I can share some info with a fellow Western PA'er.
  17. I am almost 100% certain that would be Trout Run here in NW PA. No reports; its designated nursery water
  18. I always looked forward to his daily reports...
  19. Yep Jeb, we'll be back this May. I think the big guy is sitting this one out! So don't look forward to us making any "chum" lines this spring... But keep us a few bar stools open... We are planning on being up at least for the Wilson KOTL, hopefully Memorial Day weekend as well. NOTHING better than big spring Kings!
  20. Gambler is right. Any time in May is great from the Niagara to Olcott and sometimes on to Oak Orchard and it is the closest destination to you. Easy straight shot across 90 all the way to Buffalo then some joggin' around to get to Youngstown (mouth of the river), Wilson, or Olcott. Memorial Day weekend (hint...) has always been pretty good to me in the Wilson / Bar area
  21. You can hate all you want, but it is still #6. I know you Buffalo fans are jealous... Born in western PA and built to stay that way, crew of the Storm.
  22. Yvan- Are there enough slips for all the possible participants? We are planning on heading up, but don't want to make arrangements if we can't get in and can't get a slip since we can't trailer. Please pm me back so I can make sure I get your response. Thanks. Pennsylvania guys, jeez!
  23. God bless you! I wish I lived closer, I would have gone with you. Nothin' but hard water on Erie.
  24. I'm from PA and we have to have a LAKE ERIE COMBO stamp to fish PA waters of Lake Erie. It is a mutt of an additional Lake Erie permit as well as the standard Trout Stamp. Our club recently sent our concerns to our state legislature in regards to this stamp "program" running out and those funds going to the state's (excuse me, commonwealth) general fund for multi-purpose use. The matter has subsequently been rectified by our state legislature. We pay an additional $10 or $12 whether you are resident or non-resident and a large portion of the revenue goes to obtaining PUBLIC ACCESS to the Lake Erie watershed, most noticably, public access to steelhead streams. $10 or $12 is not the end of the world, but I believe that those of use that are non-residents would pay $40 or $50. NY would now extend its burdensome tax structure to those of us who bring TOURIST dollars to your state, ie NON-RESIDENTS. I know my crew spends hundreds if not thousands of dollars in NY every year for licenses, meals, lodging, etc. in direct relation to our fishing trips. Another $40 from each of us can be the difference between making 2 or 3 trips a year and NONE at all. Fishing is an expensive hobby and NY is trying to hamper our ability to do so even further. I know in recent difficult economic times, more PA anglers I know are talking about only getting Ohio licenses to fish the Erie waters in Ohio where NO STAMP is required and the limits are typically more liberal than Pennsylvania. Regulation and taxation are the surest way to lose more anglers.
