Think I am Going to Try Running Braid
Traveling Circus replied to longbow's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Once a year, if you cut out the "curly" section of wire (1st 8 feet or so) and re-terminate, it keeps the potential for kinks/frays down.... My experience is that it's not that big a PITA to look for an alternative to wire...... For 2016, I'm hoping to run 4 wire divers on Erie for walleyes..... our wires were so successful last year. This may cause other headaches..... I'll let you know. -

The people I know from NW Montana are hunters, miners, and National Forest Service employees, and they strongly dislike wolves.... This area is outside of the financial influence of Yellowstone. I've been hunting there since 1991..... In the winter of '96-'97 they lost a large percentage of their deer and elk herd to a very nasty winter. Like 60% of the deer and 40% of the elk...... but over the next few years the game populations recovered. I don't remember the year the wolves started showing up, but it's been at least 10 years that they have had wolf predation in the area..... the game population has not recovered, and other predators are being affected too...... fewer cougars, fewer grizzlies (not a bad thing ), fewer black bears..... prey species of course have been affected..... deer, elk, moose, sheep, goats..... You can say what you want about the health of the aspen and beavers in the park (Yellowstone), but outside of the park, wolves have had a very negative impact from many peoples perspective. Not just outfitters. Not just ranchers ....... Those rural mountain communities rely on tourism dollars, and hunters provide income not just for outfitters, but lodgers, restaurants, gas stations, many ancillary businesses...... It's a fair bet that 90% of the locals outside of the park "environment" strongly dislike wolves...... and Democrats

I ran a pair of "walmart" batteries on that motor last year and had performance about like dawgs. That was their 1st year in service...... pulling around an 18' aluminum boat.

Had some recent bad experience with ProMariner Pro Sport....... and some good experience with a Minn Kota. Both dual bank........ -
Unreal....... It's amazing how they keep coming in..... 2 years ago we shot 7 or 8 coyotes in one square. Seemed like every weekend there'd be a new single or pair in it..... for us that was a first. Bill, I ran the pup tonight in Hilton pretty close to the lake, and there was probably 8" of snow there. You've got to be getting some of that at your place...... does the deeper snow help or hurt you? We never got anything going.....

Always fun to get a new distraction....... Good luck with it, and be sure to give us a range/field report.

I've got a BSA Cateye Illuminated Reticle 1.5 x 4.5(?). It's been on a couple of different rifles for night hunting, where you have the potential to beat the crap out of them. I'm very happy with the value in that scope....... I paid less than $100, and it has performed well.... The worst thing I can say about it is that the brightness adjustment push-button no longer adjusts by one level..... push the button and you might get the next level, or 2 levels, or 3...... other than that I'm happy with it. It's gotta be 16 or 17 years old. Sure I wish it were a Leupold, but at 1/5 the cost I'm happy.

Greater Niagara Fishing Show - Summary & Next Steps
Traveling Circus replied to salmonella's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I attended this years show and enjoyed 2 of the one hour seminars, along with visiting many vendors on the floor..... overall I thought the show was very good. The only improvement I can recommend would be to have the detailed seminar schedule available more in advance.... and as luck would have it, one of the seminars I was most interested on Friday, was cancelled. Thanks to all who made it possible. Looking forward to next years show. -
Thanks Bill, the pup is coming along. ..... we've chased some fox there but no coyotes yet...... they're there, we just haven't been there when they are. Seems like the coyotes are starting to show themselves more now, and we had a pair together yesterday. The winter's been easy so far. I've never seen so much fat on them.......
