  1. I've been running coyote/fox with hounds for a few years now.... the group I run with mainly hunts the Mt. Morris area..... sometimes "a little" N/S/E or W of there.... We cover a fair amount of ground from the end of deer season to the end of March..... never seen a track or or heard a story.... there are "dog gangs" all over the state, and I'd guess that if there are cougars roaming around, somebody's hound would have put one in a tree...
  2. We caught two of those fish last Thursday evening off Sandy........ I didn't know what I was looking at! They looked ready to run the creek, but were only 12 lbs or so......
  3. Nice Job Foster...... and thanks for the report..... We didn't have the kahunas to try it..... maybe tomorrow afternoon it'll lighten up some...
  4. Is that?????..... I believe that is.....THE SEPTIC SAILORS!!!!! Way to go Scottie / Gary / BH Congratulations Boys!
  5. Some feedback to the teams who participated in the Sandy Shootout.... Tonight at the monthly Northstar Board meeting, the LOU Sandy Shootout teams made a $100 donation to the club to be used to help sponsor a local youth at the NYS DEC Camp Rushford at the Hanging Bog WMA. Each year, several local youths are sponsored by Northstar for a week at the camp enjoying outdoor activities like canoeing, fishing, and environmental studies. The Shootout donation was graciously received by the Board, and they thanked the Teams for the participation and the help with Rushford costs. Thanks for helping keep the outdoor mentality growing in our young fishermen/fisherwomen.
  6. Fished the evening (5 - 7:30) out of Sandy inside for Browns for about 45 minutes but never moved a rod..... ccccCCCCold inside......then ran out to 375 off the lighthouse and fished N-S. There was scattered bait from 60 - 90 down and fish marking 30 - 60 down.... we wound up taking one 7 lb female steelhead on rubber meat behind a white Crush glo SD behind a diver out 150..... we had 50 F down about 50 feet...... There were a fair number of fish out there, we just couldn't figure out the ticket. Water was very flat......Where are the kings, and are they ever gonna show?
  7. and Jeff Ignasiak (s)........ the chef and often teammate on Nuthin'But Net!...
  8. Mostly, thanks to the participating teams.. .. This derby was an unknown quantity, and you guys stepped up for the 1st Sandy Shootout evah! Thanks to Joe Bianchi for donating the potato salad, and George Staufer for donating the beans! Both homemade items!.. ..Who'd have thought a guy with a name like Bianchi could make anything other than sauce???? I think the donations gave Reel Drag some good Karma... That boat's always got good Karma..... Thanks to Marie Warboys for giving us a hand in the kitchen.. .. And thanks to Tammy and Christie for supporting my bad habits..... all of them...... Hope everyone enjoyed the "experience"..... and we'll see you next year!
  9. The concrete pretty much ends where the furthest West dock post is....... pretty much. Be careful....... every year, there's a trailer or 2 that gets dropped off the end! The good news is that the water is at a decent level.
  10. MTT, I thought you must have got a good report....... to run out to 28 - 30 in 4 - 6's, it would have to be a darn good one too....... that's too much for my skiff......
  11. Super Turnout! Now if we can just find a fish or 3................
  12. There seems to be enough interest to do a little shootin'. So If you're going to be at the picnic/awards for the Sandy Shootout.... and you'd like to do a little tuning up for September Goose...... bring your favorite shotgun and a box or 2 of target loads, and we'll break some clays! Shootin' won't start until after the awards and drawings, .......sometime after 4... and if you're shootin', no boozin' til' the shootin's done.....
  13. Flyboy.... we saw you heading out... my daughter looked at me like WTHeck? I could only look back with the same expression.... Good luck out there, but more importantly be careful...... Good job on the laker.... it was a difficult bite for sure.
  14. Fished today with Christie, and never touched a fish....... A real struggle........ started at about the can, and fished to Braddocks.....in 75 - 150 fow. Pretty strong Westbound current. There were fish that looked like lakers and kings, but we couldn't find anything to get them going. Temp and picture seemed to get better as we went E, and there was 50 - 55F on bottom in 120..... Searched for a brown for a while too, and couldn't find one of those guys either........
  15. Nice Fish! What made you run to the 28? Cold Inside? We hope to be out in the morning.....and I'm hoping for better conditions than the weekend!
  16. It was one of those unforgettable days! Most action was between the 28 and 30 lines, NW of Olcott...... Riggers were parked between 35 and 50 most of the day.... diver hits came 135 - 150 on a 3 setting..... DW Gator, SS Coyote, and several others all were hot..... Biggest Steelies to about 12 lbs....Big Fun...
  17. Ouch!......sorry to hear about the expensive trip..... we ran to braddocks where there were decent temps, but still struggled..... 3 shaker kings..... we looked inside for a while and then wound up in 200, but really never turned a good fish.....
  18. Northstar Sportsmens Club offers one of the nicest facilities in Upstate New York for shooting clay targets in a 5-Stand format. 5-Stand is a clay target game similar to Sporting Clays, except that shooters are positioned at 5 permanent stations, and clay targets are thrown from automatic traps at 7 or 8 different locations in front of them, from all directions, angles and speeds. 5 targets are attempted at each station in a round, for a total of 25 targets. If there's enough interest from the picnic participants, I'd be happy to open the 5-Stand range at the picnic. Target cost is $6 or $7 per 25, plus supply your own ammo in 12 ga. or 20, shot size 7 1/2, 8, or 9........ IC chokes or tighter would be plenty for these targets...... The range would be opened after the weigh in was complete, and into the "socialization" and feeding period.... Of course, NO ALCOHOL consumption would be permitted prior to shooting...... If you're interested, reply here, or send me a PM and I'll post a "GO or NO GO" message next thursday based on the response..... Looking forward to meeting folks at the "shootout"!
  19. We fished 75 fow for Browns down to the lighthouse, and took one brown and 5 skips...... then slid out a little to 100 - 120 and fished to what I thought were kings...... we dropped one major on the surface after maybe a 10 minute battle, and then Joe B. landed one at 25lb 13 oz... Looks to me like the kings are starting to show up ...... 90 to 110 down.
  20. Coyote Ugly is "IN" ....... Hey Rebel....... Christie is expecting ice cream at the picnic!
  21. A little rough tonight, so we went W out of the port to about the middle of the park and trolled back E with the waves. Water is warm, warm, warm...... with 120 FOC temp varied from 70 F to 56 F depending on direction and speed....... fished 115 - 150, with most marks and bait in 115 - 130. took 3 fish on 6 hits, 2 shakers and 1 steelie. spoons (DW SS's )took the fish, but SD/flys took a couple of hits too...... nice night.....none of the guests turned green
  22. Gland to hear things worked out.... seems like they always do out of that port......Sandy is, without a doubt, the friendliestly place on the lake..... I can't tell you how many times other fishermen have checked on me and my "crew" before running in late in the evening........ It's a great feeling to know that you're on both ends of the safety net....
  23. In 225, we had 60F down 50, 55F down 60, 50F down 70........ Cold water came up as we came in, but maybe only by 10 feet or so......
  24. If reading that don't put a grin on your face and a twinkle in your eye, nothing will....... very cool.......
  25. Started fishing at about 5:00......East wind......Fished from Cowsucker back to the creek. Started in 225, worked out to 275, then back into 90 FOW off Newmans...... best bite seemed to be in 225 - 240...... 3 steelies landed, 2 lost, and 1 screamer lost....... Wire divers out 240, riggers at 60 - 80...... Nothing was real hot. Action seemed random .....Pulled lines at 7:50........Nice evening.
