  1. Had some fun yesterday with my nephew Dominick and his cousin Mikey fishing the big pond for salmon. We had 13 strikes for the morning, but had a case of the dropsy issue going on. Only netted 4 fish, with 2 being undersized steelhead, and one nice one with a 20 lb king. The highlight of the day was at the end of the time, when a double took the stage, and then a third rod went, and then a fourth rod went, and only the big king came back to the net. In the end we had only 2 of the rods of the 6 we started with left in the water. I field tested a new prototype 11 inch dodger attractor by Trinidad Tackle for my friend Stan Kulak, who graciously chose me to try in the lake for the kings. Although we couldn't bring a fish to the camera with it attached to its mouth, we did have two very good kings strike the twinkie meat rig being towed by the dodger. Both unfortunately pulled the hook and still swim. The king spun about 300 feet of backing off the reel on a 400 foot copper wire rig and came unbuttoned. The other was taken on a 42 second spoon off the downrigger and that one went to the fish box! Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Not horrible. Easier to flick off in the water, but I'm using 50lb. Mono splice in the rigger rods. I shelved the wire dives for long coppers also. Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. We limited out today on king salmon! A double was the highlight. No biggies, but nice fish all 15 to 16lb. One screamer got away that was likely the biggest fish, but after peeling line for about 400 feet it came unbuttoned. 10 hits and 7 fish to the boat, one was returned, a small steelhead. Great day on the water offshore at the 27.5 to 28 line. Everything took fish flasher flies, twinkie meat, Moonshine geezer, and seasick waddler spoons. Down riggers, out riggers, long copper 400, 500, no divers were out though. Started at 70 down for 46 degrees,, then later moved to 85 down. Riggers at 50, 80 and 90 all took fish. 4. Nice update Les! Love the show and watch every episode with Cher. Marciano is our favorite captain, she thinks of Cararo as "Dick Dasterdly" LOL! also she hasn't got much like for Greg Mayer on the Frenzy. I have my picture standing at the stern of the Frenzy in the Oregon Fleet marina from October 2015.
  5. Thanks Les! Yeah not often enough for both of us! Love my best fishin bud! Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  7. My son Chris and I had a great day out of Point Breeze. We had 4 kings and a Coho in the box at the end and returned a few juveniles. A few hits nobody home also. Stan Kulak's 9 inch Trinidad Tackle dodger out fished the flasher and spin doctor once again! The coho hit the green dodger and Atomik fly combo, and a small king hit the black dodger and bug eye fly combo on a 300 copper. The spiny and flasher flies were silent on the wire divers all day. Most fish came on moonshine mag spoons however, and the largest being 14 lbs. A box of 5, and 3 returned, and a double with kings was the highlight! 8. Steve and I had a beautiful day out of Point Breeze, Lake Ontario today. We ran only 5 rods, 2 rigger spoons, two wire divers, and the center rigger deeper with Trinidad Tackle 9 inch dodger that Stan Kulak sent me for my experiences with the new attractor. I ran an Atomik tournament fly matching the color of the dodger at 70 down and 2.5 to 2.8 mph. It ran beautifully with the fly and a 20 inch leader. A very slight bend in the wide end gave the dodger a wide swing that had the fly moving very enticing. Once putting it down to hit 70 feet, it flew off the release at 62 feet and I thought it was a false release with the scotty pinch pad. Not after I picked the rod up and it started yanking and screaming away from us!...weighed in at 17.75 lb! 2 more swing and misses with the dodger, but then Steve also landed a king on the Trinidad Tackle dodger and fly! We boxed a total of 5 fish, one was a nice steelhead on a Moonshine Seasick waddler mag spoon, also had a lake trout released on the same, and 2 small salmon released, along with 2 that pulled the hook, and a few hits nobody home. Some great fishing for about a five hour tour! Most fish came from 150 to 180 fow, some from 250 to 275 also. Riggers parked at 30, 50 and 70, wire out 125 and 150.. 2.5 diver set with flashers and flies, but were least productive today. Get you some of those 9 inch dodgers from Trinidad Tackle and you won't be disappointed! They are going in the lake everytime now for me! Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. 36,624.7 hours today on this C15 475 hp Cat. Religious 30,000 mile 15-40 Rotella and 20% Lucas Oil Stabilizer. The 454 will last at least 1/3 of that if taken care of. Tuned before problems start, and run in its peak torque efficiency range without gouging on it continuously for speed. Money doesn't buy happiness, but it does buy horsepower.... I've never seen a sad person in a boat haulin' A$$...!
  10. 7 inch is all I've ever needed on any size salmon. Butterfly method of fillet is all I do. Not everyone wants to spend the time, but if you want boneless and no guts spilled on the meat, it makes the meal taste much better. 7 inch Dexter Russel, and A very flexible 7 inch shrade for skinning and pin bone removal Money doesn't buy happiness, but it does buy horsepower.... 11. Speed isn't as much a factor for me as is the roll and action timing. If I'm using a spread of mag spoons in my program I stay with 2.4 to 2.6, but it's not exact science. The action in clean water to the side of the boat is critical with your set boat speed. You need your meat head to be tuned with a bit of bending on the tab. With the meat installed and hook at the end of the meat drop it in on the SIDE of the boat in clean water, no draft as in behind. Check your boat speed, gps, and probe on a down rigger for your set. Then observe the meat in the water. It should be a corkscrew motion at a cadence of about 1.5 to 2 rolls per second. Corkscrew not a drill motion as on its own axis. Try to get it to look like it's chasing it's tail. Get that motion at what ever speed you want to run at and you should have fish anywhere within a half mile per hour of preferred speed. 12. I like the Teaches Lair group out of Hatteras Village near the free ferry docks to Ocracoke. Lots of good charters there for inshore and offshore action. The blue water and Gulf Stream are often within 15 miles of the Hatteras inlet. Depends on winds and current, but usually not more than 25 to 30 miles out. Get yourself a gang of 6 to go or put yourself on a makeup list and save some bucks by shared expense with someone on a full day. Don't count out surf fishing with your own stuff and a 4x4 will really get you some great shore fishing. Trying for a trip this October or November myself! 14. Excuse me...if you are the skipper of your boat, and you are getting within 100 feet of another boat running anythjng, then you might be the one who needs to allow more room to the side. Obviously if they are running long lines then you need to stay clear of the rear by 2 football fields. Keep your eyes open and you shouldn't be running over someone's boards and tow lines. It's quite possible your dipsy presentation set on 2.5 is wider than the boards being run by someone else, but if you can't see them like a board, then I guess it doesn't matter. 15. Shell Rotella is the best oil you can get. Not the same category as a big block gas engine, but I have a Cat C15 twin turbo diesel in my Kenworth and it has 1,590,000 miles no overhaul. Only thing else and I highly suggest it is Lucas Oil treatment in place of 1 or even 2 quarts oil. I replace 2 gallons in the diesel with Lucas. Change the diesel oil in 30,000 miles with filters. Shell Rotella has been in all my diesels since 1986 and never had problems with it. Very good Advice from Paul! Money doesn't buy happiness, but it does buy horsepower.... 17. Exactly!..you did the right thing. Avoidance of dumbasses is always best. If nothing else but to save YOUR gear and integrity. Happens often when you seem to be hooked up. You could yell over like I do, ask them if you can net their fish too. Oh, you don't have a fish? Good job solo in the small boat, be safe in those rough conditions when some disrespecting ass forces you into a possible side broach in waves. Keep your safety high on the list when alone, and good fishing! Money doesn't buy happiness, but it does buy horsepower.... I've never seen a sad person in a boat haulin' A$$...!
  18. I commend the Congress on bipartisanship achieved goal here, but in regards to this statement by senator Stabenow.... "Great news! The Army Corps just announced it will release critical study in fight against Asian carp. Trump admin had been holding this up!" The tax payers 8.2 million dollar study, started in November 2014, completed in January 2015, was 2 years of the previous administrative control. That disingenuous statement reveals the real hold up in Congress. This administration has heeded the call of Congress not held it up nor made waste of the cost of the study. Now it needs action, so try to live with a mover on important issues like this, and live in the real world... Debbie! Money doesn't buy happiness, but it does buy horsepower.... 22. It's a toomah!..VHS the fish has open sores on the skin, very thin, lethargic...and the blood from the hook pierce will run like water all over your boat. I had a few steelhead like that years ago. They were deep sixed! Money doesn't buy happiness, but it does buy horsepower.... I've never seen a sad person in a boat haulin' A$$...!
  23. Damn druggies! They been real bold lately coming in daylight. Should just bait em like coyotes and cross hairs watch em. A few times of that and it won't happen so often. My son lives in the sticks, had some low life asses in mid day come right up his driveway while he and wife were home. When she stepped out of the door they stood there and she yelled what are you doing? Son came out just in time to see them leaving in a shi! box car .40 in his hand....tires and radiator were lucky that day...too bad! Hope they get long jail time, and your stuff returned safely. That's a lot of equipment.. Money doesn't buy happiness, but it does buy horsepower.... I've never seen a sad person in a boat haulin' A$$...!
