Wow, great job! What is the best depth of water to fish for perch this time of year? Thanks!

  3. Just finished the last few bottles of a batch of Belgian Trippel I brewed, 8.9% ABV. Had a few at 30 days and it was way to sweet for me, so I forgot about it for about 5 months. Aged well into a good beer, but not as bitter as I prefer. This was made from a malt extract kit, as I am still just the occasional homebrew hobbyist. Bud Light is my staple, but for craft beers, I like pale ale's and IPA's.
  4. Is there an ongoing-updated report available from the Altmar hatchery, that tracks species, numbers, and life stage of current fish in the holding tanks? We went to the hatchery after a very uneventful 6 hour trip on Mexico Bay, and the half dozen or so tanks that were filled, were chock full of 3"-4" fish. I'll study the 2014 stocking report more closely, but it seems if the stocking targets are being met then the expected return of adults would substantiate those efforts. Between the problems with invasives, lamprey's, birds, etc.. the fishery has adapted and thrived. Now two back to back winters of near complete ice coverage must have played a huge part in overall numbers. Time will tell. If we get back to some normal winter weather and typical ice coverage and water temps, in three short years we could be living the good ol' days again.
  5. I love to see all the young kid's with their fish and love all of the pic's, but that one got to my heart! Thank you for sharing and congrat's to you both!
  6. 1989 Alpha 1 outdrive, with a 3 year old SEI lower unit, has gear oil weeping out of the little weep hole in lower unit. I suspect it is the seals in the upper as after filling the drive to capacity, it eventually begins to leak from the weep hole but will stop when I assume the upper is all leaked out. (This is happening without the engine running) My question is, how does the gear oil get to the upper from the lower when filling?
  7. Super customer oriented folks there, they will treat you right and accommodate you for any issues on their part. I will be pulling "Angry Alewife" spoons on Erie this weekend for the 'eye's, and will report back. next week. With a great selection of high quality spoons and very creative design, I will be sure to use them for years to come.
  8. Yeah, good luck to you with that. All of my replacements are easy to get to.
  9. Thanks Pap, gear oil seems fine. Looking more and more like unspent fuel. Had an issue on the water this weekend while trolling after trolling for several hours, when pulled the engine back to idle, she shut down. Cranked and cranked to get it restarted and when she did, it blew a cloud of carbon out the size of the boat!
  10. Really appreciate the replies gent's. Yes, Mercruiser and thank you again for the explanation. The fitting on mine is discolored, but appears to be more just typical grime than green. I will be replacing it just the same when I do the plugs and wires.
  11. We found fish at a pretty consistent depth, from well east to well west of the harbor, as well as in front. A few feet deeper or shallower, and they were off the screen. We ended up with 6 eye's from 4 - 8 lbs. but worked from 6:30 - 3:30 to do so. I think the catch rates were dependent on if you were lucky enough to have a walleye beat the silvers to the lure, cause we sure weeded through a bunch of them. We did 4 on renosky's and 2 on harnesses, same colors everyone else was pulling.
  12. Lakebound, I have the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires on the way. I noticed on the original cap there is a fitting at the bottom that appears a vacuum line could be hooked to. If you would be so kind, could you elaborate? Thank you!
  13. Can't really verify it and never paid attention before, but one of my fishing partners said his grandfather told him long ago that if the moon was out during the day, you better either be fishing or hunting. We had the trip of all trips out on Erie last July 4th weekend while the "daylight moon" was a perfect 1/2 moon.
  14. Thanks for the intel Battlehammer. Good luck and safe travels guy's!
  15. Thanks for the info Battlehammer, any numbers or size?
  16. Hey Sluggo, we will be out of Barcelona this weekend as well, staying at Blue Water Beach CG. Good luck, hope we both get into them!
  17. Thanks guy's, I'll start with the plugs!
  18. I have a GM V-6 that starts up hard while in the water, but easily on the ears. I suspected I was getting water in the risers because of the shutters. Shutters are good except the rubber coating is worn off.
  19. I bought this unit from Cabela's when they had them on sale a few months ago. Definitely slow booting up, and mine loses GPS connection frequently. Only other feature I don't like much is having to go into the waypoints menu to store a way point, as there is no quick create from the buttons. (My LCx-113 has a "WPT" button that you simply push twice)
  20. Started noticing an oil slick behind the boat while trolling. Ran motor on the ears and had that oily film in the run-off, and am thinking I'm getting some oil blow past the rings. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance!
  21. Real life moment right there, worthy of a lifetime of memories! Way to battle through to victory and congrat's!
  22. Will water migrate up through the risers and into the engine block if the rubber coating on the exhaust flappers is worn off? My 1989 Penn Yan (GM V-6) starts fine on the ears, but really cranks a long time in the water at the launch.
  23. Many condolences to the family, and a salute and thank you for serving to Capt, Jim. Rest in peace!
