  1. You won't need face paint with that rash.
  2. I don’t think you can count on gentle forecasts the rest of the year. If you want to fish, and you can do it safely, then you better do it. You don’t have to go out very far this time of year.
  3. Keep in mind stomach contents are just a snapshot. Orange meat might be just as likely coming from smelt ingesting invasive blood red mysis down deep as it is from mussel-eating gobies (keratin)
  4. Spring time clearer water conditions or after summer rollovers when clearer water rolls in, I will use 20lb blue label Fluoro leader material for spoons. The rest of the time it is green trilene XL for spoon leaders.
  5. Fat healthy fish! What are they spitting up?
  6. The skin has naturally occurring antibiotics in the fish slime. There are Canadian fish camps that have learned to keep the skin on walleye fillets ( you have to leave on while crossing the border with fish anyway) for freezing and stacking the fillets skin down on top of the meat of the bottom fillet so there is always contact of skin on meat. I have no scientific proof this works.
  7. Could be fleas, thermocline, or YOY bait.
  8. Great idea. Now how do you know if fish was caught from pier vs boat?
  9. If you are using blacks just make sure you give a good amount of twists before inserting the loop in the release to prevent slippage when you tighten down to load rod. As bluegiller suggests, as the ball descends, keep line taught. If you use a Scotty downrigger with manual clutch, descend slowly and don’t freefall. Make sure everything is angled straight out the back, paralleling the down-current direction so things don’t go sideways upon descent. If you are doing all these things now and still getting tangled, I don’t know what to tell you.
  10. Chef Prudhomme’s Magic Salmon or Cabela’s Venison Rub on the meat side. Grill mostly on the skin side, flip once. Two year old spring kings are the best table fare in Lake O.
  11. Are you using pinch pad style releases?
  12. Congrats on a 30 lber! A tall task to hit that tyee mark this year.
  13. Thing slowly trolled but lots of aggravating/ triggering wild action. This time of year they are attracted to skein scent so skein on a j-plug or kwikfish/maglips. Hot’n tots, big lipped stickbaits with upgraded hooks etc etc.
  14. Good bless you jimski ......but man are you prone to rambling lol.
  15. Go to bar. I got a look at the pen pods that are staging off olcott and Wilson -slim pickings. The fish will be stacked more heavily just East of the red can this time of year.
  16. You need to fix my house first!
  17. Cohos and steelhead really miss the emerald shiner days.
  18. There might be some opportunities for immature salmon and steelhead offshore over deep water. Weather is tricky that time of year. You might be better served to book a charter in the next couple of weeks to speed up your learning curve and probably save you money.
  19. Fished Thursday night, Friday and Saturday, and this is the only picture of bait and predators together.
  20. Weidel reminded me YOY alewife and smelt may be on graph as 1.5-2” fish. What size alewives are stomach contents showing when you are cleaning fish Vince?
  21. My eyes were opened this weekend to the insane amount of bait that has appeared. I am concerned about the lack of predators around it.
  22. I think we going to have a winter again. Dark salmon, Monarch Butterflies migrating early, raptors passing thru early, I saw a buck with shed velvet today, and squirrels going nuts in my yard tell me my snowflauge will see action.
