Creating a fishery in which the DEC recommends you DO NOT consume any Lake Trout over 25" due to toxins. The amusing thing is the DEC has tried all different types Lake Trout strains in an attempt to find the best strain to survive and repopulate Lake Ontario. Sorry, in my mind if you change the strain.....it is no different in theory than stocking any of the introduced salmon species.

Save your money. If you want to make a mock scrape, find one that you aren't going to hunt over and shovel up the dirt from it into a container and put it where you want it. I have never seen good behavior by deer around commercial scents....always negative.

I am not sure if wildlife officials could ever prove that the presence of too much bait would cause small jacks to run and spawn. I have caught 18" 1 or 2 yr old kings in the two-heart which flows into Lake Superior which is bait poor. I CAN tell you that if you continue to strip eggs and milt from these jacks you increase the likelihood that the progeny created will also develop early. It should be hatchery policy to not use jacks for egg or milt take.

I always get a kick out of people on deer shows touching a fence post rub with their hands......I would not touch a licking branch but I would hang my bow stand near one!

I don't believe that the moon has some "magical" pull on breeding activity but rather more light from full moon phases allows for bucks to find and chase them during non-shooting hours. Its a visual thing.

I think it is great they are around and like all predators that don't have any predators......they need to be controlled.

Wow...never seen anything like it. I would imagine it would be easier to spot fish on their beds if they were that color!

Neither sides of the fence are going to alter stocking numbers. The predator/prey curve will have to work itself out.

They have expanded considerably since reintroduction and protection. There was some thought that they may open them up to trapping this year but it was shot down. They are nasty killers. They kill Raccoons (talk about a loud fight!), porcupines, squirrels, rabbits, Pine Martens.....anything they can catch and kill. I am sure they do a number on Turkey and Grouse eggs also.

Probably Adult Lake Trout survey. They spawn in November.

Brian, was there any discussion regarding the amount of "gill plate missing fish" at the meeting? I would be interested to know if the alarm bells have gone off with biologists yet or do we need to tell someone our concerns?

Brian, a Canadian charter captain I know told me during the fall of 2013 while out fishing the blue zone near the fence there was a YOY school of alewives on top of the water that was 5 miles long. I think most of the small fish get spun to the middle by the toilet bowl effect of the lake currents.

I am done talking now....LOL. Time to get ready for fall.
