Punch weeds with jig and trailer plus topwater frog for bass. Under docks with wacky rigged worm. Find the deepest water for pike. If you can collect shiners from little creeks nearby, fish under a bobber for pike. The St Lawrence is only 20 minutes away if you are taking your boat.

I have 4 Cabela’s Depthmaster reels with upgraded T handles and leadcore that I probably will be upgrading at the end of the season. You can have them.

Off-gassing will take time to cure. You might try putting them in a bucket of water for awhile, leaving them in your car and allow the heat of summer to bake off smells. I know an old technique to get tar off the hands is use mayonnaise. Maybe a little mayo rub?? I don’t buy rubber boots for the same reason you are worried about. Off-gassing takes time.

I am not a scientist but looking at the data provided by Dr Weidel, phosphorus appears to be at levels that trend the lake as Oligtrophic (cold, clear, less fertile). Of note was the last ph reading taken at the end of September showed a reading of 6.8 (trended acidic as the summer moved into fall). It seems like what happened to Adirondack lakes during the height of acid rain degradation-big heads small bodies on fish. Add exotics and some disease (from lack of food-stress) and you might have an anti-fish cocktail. Are the shells from dying zebra and quagga mussels putting more Ca+ into the water raising the Ph? The 2019 study concluded no major changes to the water. Are there monitoring studies still ongoing? How does the water in 2024 compare to 2019?

Lake Ontario was a chemical dumping ground through the 80’s and alewives thrived. They had a robust plankton diet before the zebra and Quagga mussels. Poor water quality had seemingly presented no barrier. My guess would be you lost the food web in Keuka due to exotics and there is probably some disease(s) in play.

There are often people inquiring about where to buy tackle when they come up to the lake. Knowing how important it is to support local tackle shops, I thought I would start a thread that highlights some of the tackle shops on the West side of the lake. Feel free to add to the list to help serve as a resource for others. Route 18 Tackle shop: near Hamlin Has pretty much everything you need to fish Lake Ontario including custom Hawk series of spoons. Additionally, there are some stickbaits for walleye and other warm water species tackle.

A good way to think of water and how it can affect fish movement is to picture a lava lamp
