So I was able to keep the tradition going and purchase my grandfathers cottage in the 1000 islands. Well tucked away were about 3doz styrofoam duck decoys my grandfather hunted over for years...I've kept a few for keepsake but the rest Id like to sell. Here is my issue they are still useable but need to be repainted ...so what are they worth If you look on eBay people list them as "antique" "rare" "vintage" which maybe the case but I think $30 a piece is miles and miles out of the ball park. I was thinking more along the lines of a few bucks a piece for someone looking to restore or add to a spread or new to the sport. Let me know what I'm dealing with here. I've never had much luck and I solely attribute that to the class of bucks in NY. A wise old timer once told me if you want to rattle you must sound like two deer that actually live on your property. Meaning if you only have 100" 8pts you don't want to sound like two 150" going at it as non dominate bucks won't investigate.....that being said I have done some light rattling with soft grunts and had smaller bucks check it out (southern tier spot with mostly scrub rack bucks) ...not sure if guys are split on that method or not but maybe worth a try before hanging up your rattle bag or antlers Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I understand not everyone hunts...but how about from October to January no cutting on state land/forest that would make sense......I'd have to imagine if they leave their equipment or run it during the season it's not to safe....just another dumb move by our state Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Myself and three buddies all shoot rage 2blade and chisel tip and have great results ....now I have another set of friends who only shoot G5 fixed and they have the same results as us.....so I think it really comes down to what you want to shoot and how it shoots for you...I think in today's modern archery all the grass is the same color green Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

No hard feelings I didn't take it that way at all ....I do wish the state could manage hunter retention and the deer heard ......my own personal way of managing my property is to pass smaller bucks but as for the yahoo neighbor hunting 6guys on 10 acres I doubt he passes on fawn let alone a 4pt ..... Who I dislike to use kind words Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Well Ray here ya go.....I was hunting a small 7acre piece my neighbor lets me hunt behind my house and at about 8am this buck came out walking right at me....he barley gave me time to grab the bow....so I had him straight on at 5yds which had me shaking like leaf....the buck spooked as an arrow slowly started to fall out of my quiver but didn't fall to the ground thank god .....luckily he jumped back 20yrds turned around and came right back to me eventually giving me a 10yrd broadside shot ! .......I will say I have been using the evercalm deer scent for two years now and the deer love it ....that bedding scent seems to give them just enough security on windy days or if they are spooked to calm their nerves Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Chas0218 when you say if you hunt now a days you can afford to feed your family that maybe the case for you but you have to remember we all don't walk in the same shoes. I for instance probably spend more than I'd actually ever like to total. However my buddy who I mentioned before doesn't spend that money he shoots a rem 870 with remington $5 box sluggers and a plain blaze orange bib.....it's these guys who I think we would be pushing out of the sport....that seems to lose more and more hunters each year . I do however like the results in states that have the earn a buck program where you must first shoot a doe . Just my two cents which is probably worth .05 cents Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I totally agree with better heard management and I'm lucky enough to have 50 acres to myself But here is my issue with antler restriction. I know a few family's who heavily rely on venison to them a 160" buck feeds the family just as well as a spike. So I'll give his example...he hunts state land where DMPs are pref point only and it has a lot of hunting pressure. If that guy can shoot a spike to provide for his family...I'm sure his whole family is happy....VS having few shots but no dinner because the buck didn't have a 3rd point......next gripe ....poor economy ,guy using hunting to feed his family, $100 license but he can only shoot a buck with 3 or better..... I wonder how many of these family's will buy licenses and take deer in or out of season .....last thought why doesn't NY skip the fancy new license print and put that money towards better wildlife management or perhaps lower the cost of license..by the way mine is still a yellow tag because the new fancy paper wouldn't work Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Well after arrowing my personal best, the search was on for the right taxidermist. I went with matt cantrell out of Brockport. His work can be seen at the brockport Walmart hunting dept and on his facebook. After a very trusted recommendation that's who I chose. His shop looks awesome and so do his mounts as well he is very personable. If your in the market here is his number 585-590-1126 Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I know there are lots of mixed thoughts on with the rage expandable but since I've made the switch I haven't tracked a deer over 50 yards. Plus they are like a stealth bomber flying compared to friends who shoot the G5 fixed, they sound like a 747 flying through the air ( maybe exaggerated a bit but you get the point) Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I run two sets of cameras bushnell trophy cams for my place in alfred which has no trespassers and wild game cams out here in Hilton at a small piece I hunt that has a lot of neighboring foot traffic with kids .....I will say the wild game misses a lot of pics vs the bushnell which doesn't seem to miss any....when I check the cameras the wild game won't pick me up walking 30yrds out until I get a pic of my hand opening the camera but the wildgame got this guy on cam.... The boat has no numbers ...however I'd like to throw a motor on and make it a duck hunting boat.....so I'm hoping I can register with just a bill of sale ...or just register it as it was always mine Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
