Had one great day on Cayuga today with the PA boys These guys could put some fish in the boat it was their 4th trip and we had a blast. We got started at 7am out of Ithaca and ran up just South of Sheldrake and got set up. The major cold front and strong North/West wind had the weeds blown off the lake. With the cold front we all thought we were in for some tough fishing. We were wrong . I ran a ten rod spread of two riggers, down 70 to 80 both with R @ R Razor Spoons the hot color was Grape Pearl and Pink Pearl. On the boards was a mix of R@R spoons, Stingers ( stealie stomper ), and small 3 inch cranks run on Core and Copper. I also ran 4 wire divers two deep with flashers and flys and two in the 60ft range with spoons. All of the rods took fish today and when the guys let me know the final count we had put 25 legal fish in the boat and several short salmon and bows. Out of the 25 only 6 were Lake trout, we had one nice brown, 5 nice bows, and the rest were Salmon. We took one monster Bow off the wire diver out 180 on 1.5. On the scale he bounced back and forth from the high 11 to 12 pound range . The fish put up one heck of a fight and couldnt be released so Dan took him to the taxidermy shop. It was the thickest Bow I have put in the boat, on the Finger Lakes. I have had some good luck with R @ R Spoons this month the Razor's run well with the sticks and flashers I run. And like it was mentioned in another post Dave from R and R gave me some extras to try at no cost when I ordered my spoons.

Had a great day on Owasco we got started around 11am and fished till 4pm. We put two lakers in the boat first thing then things went dead with only a few small lakers. Around 2:30 the fish turned on we caught several Lakers, and three big Bows One slob was just shy of 33 inches . The guys I had out were great and all agread to let the big bow go at the back of the boat after a quick measurment. The other bows were 28 inches and 22. We also put a nice smallmouth, and one good walleye in the boat. We marked a lot of bait from 20 to 80 down and the fish were in the same range. We did get some lakers on wire down 100 to 120 but most were above 80. The fish were full of 3 inch bait.

Fishe Seneca out of Severne for three hours with my daughter. The strong South wind made for some big waves and had the weeds pushed all over the lake. We did end up with 10 fish, three good salmon that my daughter had to keep the rest were Lakers up to only 6lbs. We fished the East side and found a lot of bait and fish out over 500+ FOW. The riggers and wire divers did the trick, one of the salmon hit the wire diver down 120.

Fished Owaso for the first time this season and we had a great day. We arrived at the launch on the North end at 6:30 am, the New York Bass Federation was also at the launch with at least 100 boats strong . My clients arrived and we were fishing around 7am. We fished the deep water 130 to 150 on the North end. It was non stop action with doubles and triples all day. No weeds or fleas made for some easy fishing. We were done by 12 with some major numbers put in the boat. We had Bows up to 29 inches, Lakers up to 9lbs, Small Mouth Bass, and some big walleyes up to 9 1/2 lbs . The lakers were crushing anything I put in the water spoons (orange), flys/flashers (on wire white/white) and small cranks. Bows liked the same program as Cayuga cranks off core. And the walleyes well I must have lost my notes The bait numbers look good on Owasco with several big pods from 20 to 80 ft down. We let the big lakers go at the back off the boat. The bass guys will be on Owasco Sat and Sun so if you want to launch hit it early. Lake temp was 75 and speed at ball was 2 to 2.2 mph, down temp was 56 at 65 FOW. Sean Reeling in The Big Walleyes (a triple)

It was one great day to be on Cayuga. We launched in Ithaca and fished South of Sheldrake from 7am to 12. Today was one of those days that it was catching not fishing. We hit the Rainbow hot spots from yesterday and it payed off big time we put 6 nice bows in the boat one was a hog at 30 inches . All of those short salmon are starting to hit the 18 to 20 inch mark with a couple around three pounds mixed in. We found two big pods of bait out deep and the salmon were all over the bait, and my spoons on the riggers at 70 to 80ft. We let most of them go, the clients did take a few for the grill and even caught some for the Capt and Mate who had some salmon tonight the rainbows went back we had to keep two that were hooked deep. We only ran two wire divers down deep for Lakers but we did end up with around 8 Lake Trout one 11 pound fish and three others over 9 lbs. We put one big guy in the boat for pics, and the scale then the rest we let go with the pliars at the back of the boat. This time of year when they hit the net and the boat floor they don't do good when you let them go. The cliets were great guys and they were more than happy to see the fish swim off with out having them in the net. Crank baits were hot today down 40 to 60 out over the deep water, and the riggers took the salmon down 70 to 80 ( all spoons on riggers) Wire divers were hot as always with flashers and flys white and green. Fished Cayuga out of Deans Cove. The strong South wind the last two days had all the weeds up tight to shore, so we had some clean trolling. That only lasted till the North wind started to blow then the weeds took over the lake. We did get in a few good hours and the guys I had out had a great trip. We put some lakers up to 10lbs in the boat and several salmon and some nice bows all over 20 inches. Some of the salmon went in the cooler the rest went back in the lake. The boards were slow for most of the day the 12 color, 200, and 300 copper took some fish as well as the wire divers out 180 and 220, riggers at 70 and 80 were on fire all day. Sean Ok guys I got three pics to download, I am stuck in the dark ages with dial up. The pic with the salmon and the board has a story. My ten color broke above the board on a weed pod but the kid reeled in my six color with the ten. So I got the board back with my core and he got the fish.

Nice job Nick, Two days of strong South wind cools the South end down big time. We will have to get up to Ontario some time

Which Finger Lake would you recommend?
Hookedup replied to felixjayce's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Canandaigua if you want to catch a lot of Bows and nice Lakers. Cayuga if you want big Lakers and some Salmon, you got to put the miles on the boat and find the deep water where the weeds are not all stacked up. I fish Cayuga every week but if driving was not an issue I would go to Canandaigua. Sean -
Fished the FLTA Tournament with a great group of guys I had out on a charter Sunday. We got started around 7am by Sheldrake the waves pushed all the weeds around and beat us up for the first two hours. Around 9am we found some clear water and fish on the West side South of Sheldrake. We caught several short salmon and some real nice Lakers. The three Lakers weighed in at just under thirty pounds, the big one went 11.7. So the guys got to have great time and win first place and the lunker. I was still marking pods of bait from 20 to 80 down out over 300+. Most of the fish came from 40 to 90 down with the big guys suspended down around 60ft. White flys, white flashers and chicken wing stingers were hot today with the speed at 2 to 2.2 mph at the ball. The fleas were also gone today but the weeds are bad. I will get some pics posted when I get them. Sean

Pike Hunter, Dean did a great job he worked his but off. You can't catch tem if they are not in the river. He had two kings the week before that went 60lbs. Sean

Just got back from a great week in Alaska, with my parents wife and two of my daughters. I got some good info from guys on the Forum that hellped with the trip. Thought I would post some pics and info for anyone else that is looking to go. It was our first time and I am already planning the next trip. We fished in Seward, Homer, and Kenai. The first pictures are in Seward we caught black bass and silvers. These Pics are From Homer, the eagle was on the beach where we were staying. We fished for Halibut, Ling Cod, and Yellow Eye. We limited out on some monster fish my dads halibut hit 170lbs, and the ling cod were huge. It was only the third day all summer with good weather that the charter fleet could run over 60 miles to where the big guys live. We had so many fish on the boat I took my turn at filleting them out for the Capt, I now have 150lbs of fish in the freezer. We fished the Kenai for 1/2 a day and caught some pink salmon and had a good king hit. Out of the three hundred boats I could see on the river I think we saw four kings caught. We missed the run but it was still a great time. This last pic is on the Kenai.

If you have a sonar unit you should pick up your rigger weights. First you need to know how far off your counter is so with the boat not moving drop the balls down to 80 on the counter then see how deep they are on the sonar. If you you are off ten feet either way you want to know about it. you wont lose much from blow back at 40 to 80 with 12lbs or more. The weeds are most likley the ones you pick up from the top that are just floating around. This time of year thats what you get on the finger lakes. If you see a weed hit your line on the surface you can bet its going to work its way down to the lure. Sean

Thanks for all the great information. I will let you guys all know how I make out when I get back. Sean

Hi guys didn't know where to post the question. I will be going to Alaska and wanted to know if any of you had fished in Seward or Homer for Halibut or Silver Salmon. I have limited time to go off shore fishing so I am limited to two half day trips. Any guides you can recommend in either location? And if so which species did you enjoy catching the most. I am going to do some river fishing but I want to get out in a boat a time or two. Thanks Sean

What kind of steering do you have? I have the Garmin GHP -10 best thing I put on my boat, works at any speed even under 1mph. Sean

Great Fish Nick, You will get more that big just keep fishing. Every year we have put at least one or two just over 14 in the boat on Cayuga or Seneca, just not on the right day. To get that fish at the derby, that makes for one great day . Now go spend the money on some new line . Sean -
First I would like to say congradulations to Nick ( Lakebound88 ) and Bob ( Trolling82 ) for the Big Laker that is leading the derby at 14.5 lbs . You guys put in your dues and I am glad to see you two put a big one on the board. I took some clients out on Cayuga today and we had a great day with several lakers up to 9lbs and lots of small salmon. Where ever I went I could not get away from those small salmon all but a few were 17 inches. We had several times when we had two to four fish on, and did not have a slow spell all morning. We did lose a big Laker on the 200 copper, but that was the only one the guys did a great job on the reels. I am going to get to fish in the morning so I will see you all on the lake. Once again great job on Seneca today guys. Sean
