  1. Thanks for the good info
  2. I guess I must be the guide in question If you eat the fish you catch keep all you want. I have no problem with that. Chowder was just trying to protect a fish when it was most vulnerable. If you hook a few short salmon so be it, but if you're going to go out and catch 40 to 50 12inch salmon for the fun of it you got problems. Myself and others have always been free with the info on the forum if you have a question it will get answered. Thats what the Forum is about and what makes it great . We got one heck of a good group of guys that fish the Fingers and we are all lucky to have a great place to fish. Im not going to let my blood pressure go up over someone's jabs in a post. I deal with that crap at work every day. Keep it fun if not why bother pulling the boat out. Sean
  3. Nice report sounds like a great day
  4. The fry were given to private groups by DEC then raised in ponds, then put in the Lake. Sean
  5. The guys at region 7 were nice enough to send me the information for the diary program in 2010. I fail to turn in my info in 2010 for region 8 and 7, no real good reason I just got so busy on the boat my record keeping sucked. We have a new system set up on the boat this year and so far all fish have been recorded. I wish I would have in 2010, a lot more rainbows would have been recorded. I see on Owasco only two rainbows were recorded . Also I see no more walleyes have been stocked since 2009 in the lake, and a 50% stocking reduction in Lake Trout happened in 2010. This is to aid in the recovery of the fisheries for brown trout and rainbow trout. I hope it works out. I know I am going to miss the walleyes it was nice to have a place to go catch them. That said I can see why they are doing what they are doing. Sean
  6. Good points by all Like you say Wes with Lakers let them go in the water, once they hit the net and the floor of the boat its hard to get them to stay down. As for the livewell it probably wont work in the summer for Lakers, Salmon, or Bows. With most of my clents we will keep a big Laker to pass around for pics then let the rest go at the back of the boat. They all look the same in photos anyway. I have also started a one Bow limit on my boat for Seneca and Cayuga this year. As for the small salmon I don't get into them down to deep that often. They also will hang out together in the same spots most of the year. So you can usually avoid them after you find them. Just about all the big salmon we put in the boat were caught in areas where we were not catching little guys. I have had better luck letting them go on a small cranks with small trebbles, then I have when they suck down a stinger spoon. You are always going to have some that don't make it thats part of the game. But its nice to see you guys are concerned about the fishery and are spreading the word . Thats what makes this Forum great.
  7. Been waiting for one of you guys to BLOW that bridge up so I can launch at Taughanock I like that launch but that bridge sucks. Sean
  8. No problem with the core. With all the slop core has in it when it is in the water you will be fine. Id run 80ft of 15lb floro leader down to an 8ft section of 12 to 8lb floro off the core. Sean
  9. Same info as Chowder. Run leader 15 to 20 lb floro down to small black swivel then 8 to 10ft of 8 to 12 lb floro leader like segar. Also lose one of the Flat lines and run a 50ft, 75ft copper or a 3 color core. When the sun is out drop them down a bit. And after your first two passes het out away from shore. Run your boards out at least 100+ from the boat. Sean
  10. Good job Nick and all of you that took it.
  11. The Seneca cut back is due to the fact over 70% of the Lake trout are native. On Keuka Lake 100% are native with no stocking. And the numbers on Keuka are crazy. I don't think this one was a money issue, at least thats what I got from the guys at DEC.
  12. Well Im not big on posting my opinions much on the Forum usually info only. I have spent some time on the Finger Lakes and Catharine creek. The Bows are way down on Seneca and so is the forage. With over 10k in sonar and electronics on the boat its not hard to monitor bait fish levels. The reason for the major salmon catching numbers on Seneca is 90% of the fish are in 1% of the water right now. If you look in the stomach of the salmon they are feeding on last years small saw bellys the mature bait is down 150 to 250. The young bait is up high by the salt plant in the warm discharge, and when the wind blows it gets pushed down to the South West corner of Lake. I can see it on the side imaging and the three inch bait in the fish i catch tell the story. The bait mass is no where near what it was three years ago. Fish are easy to catch when they are hungry and bait numbers are down. If the State dumps 9k salmon in the lake a year and 1/2 make it, it doesn't take long to wipe out a year class of fish. As for the bows I grew up fishing bows in the Tribs. Creeks like Man's and Sleeper's were loaded with fish in the late 80's early 90's then a few groups of guys cleaned them out. I got into a pissing match with three guys on the creek one morning when I was 12 who had over 100 fish on ropes before first light hit April 1st. They had been going all night and were late getting out of the woods. I got a knife held to my throat over that one. Because of guys like this you cant hardly find a fish in these creeks, and what ones you do are going to get kicked out. I now get the pleasure to lock these dirt bags up, and have quite a few who provide me with info on others that are still in the game. From what I see the Bows need some help on Seneca. If you're not going to stock them put the 1 fish limit on them and have some catch and release areas. Maybe I am just the vocal MINORITY. Sean
  13. Just flew into Syracuse tonight from Cleveland Erie has a lot of ice left on it. This cold weather is getting old
  14. Jason you said it. Having some help could of saved some major money in crap lures and cheap equipment. Any time you guys need any info just ask. I just walked in the door ten minutes ago from a week in Vegas Dam its like January again, snows back and cold as . I hope to get out Friday. Sean

  17. Nice Fish I was wondering if Treman was ice free. Thanks for the report and info time to head to Cayuga. Sean
  18. Nice fish I got to get up that way this spring.
  19. Nice Job That area had some big logs in it early in the day. I almost hit a railroad tie out in the center of the Lake . That duck boat was one rugged looking rig. Sean
  20. Thats one nice Brown, What end did you launch at?
  21. Dont Know how I got the duplicate post. Maybe a mod guy can erase it thanks Sean. Might be due to the fact my hands are still frozen from the lake today.
  22. Back at it on Seneca today with the two fishermen from yesterday plus a nine year old who put a hurting on the fish . The weather was nothing like yesterday with the strong North wind and spiting snow. The cold front definately slowed the fish down but we picked away at them all morning. We put 23 in the boat Browns, Lakers, and Salmon. All were reeled in by one happy nine year old, who did a great job getting them in the boat. It was the same program as yesterday shallow copper and core but the orange spoons got it done today. Some pics, he has a life vest under the coat. Sean
