2012 Memorial Day Derby 5 fish Tournament POLL
Hookedup replied to Hookedup's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Yup one man 5 fish limit no more than 3 Laker or 3 Salmon NY regs. We will see how many boats we get interested out of Sampson and have a meeting on locations. I hall my boat hundreds of miles a year to tournaments and other Lakes so I am used to driving. We will see what we can come up with to have the best possible site for the event. We may have some sponcers to think about and this may affect the location. We want this deal to work and don't want to run into the problems that some other tournaments are having. Its all good input so keep it coming. -
2012 Memorial Day Derby 5 fish Tournament POLL
Hookedup replied to Hookedup's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Ha good one Figured it would be a good time to see if anyone is interested before we get to involved. -
Hi Guys Nick Reel Stories and I were bouncing around the idea of having a second tournament during the Memorial Day derby. We were talking about a 5 fish one man limit tournament. Entry fee goes by boat and you weigh in your 5 fish limit. We thought of doing it Friday but I feel Saturday would make more sense. You could still have big fish Friday out of Sampson. If you have the 5 fish tournament Saturday you would probably have less fish kill. Everyone is on the lake Saturday fishing the derby anyway. You could have a shotgun start from Watkins and Sampson to coincide with the start of the derby. The FLTA works the scales in Watkins Saturday so I’m sure we could get a set of scales and have a weigh in in Watkins at like 7pm. I was thinking $100 per boat if we have a twenty boat field 1000 for 1st 500 for 2nd, 300 3rd, and 200 for 4th. We could add a lunker prize to for those who are interested. This format will give everyone a shot at putting a solid five fish program together. I know trolling all day for that one 12 to 14lb fish can get old. This would add a little more excitement to a day when you are on the water anyway. I know guys that fish both out of Sampson and Watkins who would help with shotgun start and boat checks if needed. Let me know what you think.

Seneca - Natonal Lake Trout Derby - Iron Duke
Hookedup replied to Iron Duke's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Great Job It was nice to see Matt's boat on the water -
Had a great two days of fishing Saturday and Sunday on Seneca out of Watkins with the guys from PA. These guys have fished with me for three years now and they know how to have a good time and put fish in the boat. Like Nick (Reel Stories) we decided to fish for Bows, Salmon, and Browns, on the South end. It was nice to fish the same area with a bunch of good fisherman and we all were on the fish. Saturday we put some nice Browns and Salmon in the boat and had one brown that was on the board till Sunday. Sunday morning we pulled up on Glenora to hear Nick and crew hooting and hollering , they were pounding the fish early. By the time we set up the bite shut down. It didn’t take long for us to get a program going and we were on them all day long. At one point we had five Browns and Salmon on at one time, and we got them all in the boat. The guys let a lot of fish go and, Sunday took some home for the grill. The top 25ft of water was the best and purple was the color for Sunday, Saturday orange spoons were hot. We did put a few Lakers in the boat that we caught on top the biggest was around 8.5 lbs.

Do I need to take (Reel Hooked Up off my boat?) Glad I fish out of the Finger Lakes, If I go up to Rochester now I will probably get sunk. I have never had any problems from other fisherman on the Finger Lakes. I have lost several boards but they were all from pleasure boats, sail boats, and kyakers. Just due to the fact a lot of these folks don't know how much room to give you. I have been lucky and have not run into the situations like stated above. Sean

I haven't got over to Canandaigua yet, but from what you say your water temps are the fish should be turning on. The west side on the South end should be good as well as the South East corner. Your most active fish wont show on the graph they sould be in the top 30 FOW. I would run one rigger with a flasher and fly at 80 with a spoon 10ft above it. Then every thing else would be in the top 40 FOW small cores, and short coppers of off church boards. If you have wire diver riggs you could fish them deep with flashers and flys. Id bet you money that if you run a 4 color and 5 color core off one side with boards and a 100 and 200 copper off the other you will put fish in the boat. Just PM me if you need any info on spoons or rigging core or copper. Good luck

Nice Job I can't fish the tournament either got to work. That bow will look like a new fish in a month. Sean

Blacks release, with a rubber band. If you set the release just right rubber band wont brake, and you will be able to tell when you are dragging a 8 inch salmon. Sean

Wednesday morning Jason and I arrived in Wilson to do some pre fishing for the tournament. I had a couple buddies from PA come up and we were on the lake around 9am. The East wind was already blowing and the waves were building but we headed east towards the bar. We fished for a few hours and got some fish Kings, Coho’s, and a nice Steelhead. The ride back to the launch was a long wet one running into the waves. Thursday morning my father and the crew arrived in town and we headed west again. The wind was still out of the East, but was nothing like Wednesday. We found some active fish out in 220 to 250 fow and put some Kings and Coho’s in the boat. The biggest king went 21lbs and took a DW spoon on a 300 copper. Big fish Friday we couldn’t find a king over 13lbs, we worked the same area and took small Kings and Coho’s. All of our fish were out over 200 to 250 and came from 40 to 100 down. We did take some fish on failure bite run on a big weenie bait head, with a big weenie flasher. All the other fish came on Warrior and DW spoons. I never got a fish to hit a flasher and fly once in four days. Between Jason and me we ran the crap out of them with no luck. We did feel like we had a good spoon/bait program going for Saturday. Saturday tournament day we were off in the Fog with the rest of the boats. I had wondered if I would ever get to use my broadband radar. We never shut it off Saturday and without it we would have had a mess. We never had to get within 1/8th of a mile from another boat with the radar. As for the fishing we hit two Coho’s first thing on the riggers then that was it. I couldn’t put a king in the boat to save my life. Besides the poor fishing the Tournament was great. Kevin and the rest of the folks involved deserve big thanks for all the work they did to put on this event. The dinner was first class and we all had a great time. Jason and I cleaned up big time at the Chinese auction. I won a Cannon Mag 10 rigger, Two Okuma Clarion Reels, a marine radio, $100 warrior spoon gift certificate, and the Tri-State Taxidermy gift certificate. Jason won the two Trax Tech rigger rod holders and two cannon rod holders. It was like Christmas morning. I look forward to such a great tournament in the future.

Seneca south end 5/10/11 Birthday trip
Hookedup replied to rshubuck's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Nice Job Who's NICK -
Where did you fish Mark? I would run up to Deans and fish North and South of Deans. For some reason this time of year the fish like to move up that way. Then they head South as lake warms up. Should be some nice Bows just South of Deans now. That North wind didn't help you any.

Nice Job Justin I got a big order of flys in that I am ready to try out. That flasher Jason came up with is killing them. Sean

Nice Job Nick, Your boat looked great out on the lake today. Those fish are stacked up big time on that South end. Sean

After a month the boat was back on the water today . I took my Mom out today for a mothers day boat ride. After the new power head was put in I have to break the motor in again. It was a great day for it, the lake was like glass. It was nice to see all the guys out on the South end. From the sound of it they had some great fishing. We did run a few rods for a pass by the canal. My mom got to put a nice salmon in the boat on a 4 color core. The temps were 42.2 to 44. It also looks like a lot of bait has moved into the canal to spawn. The Clute park launch was in good shape. I checked Severne last night and both docks are under water so the south end or Sampson are probably your best bet. Good luck to you all and it was nice to talk to you guys on the lake and at the dock. Sean

Great job , It was great to see you all on the lake. It was like we had a little fishing party, I knew every boat that was out. Sean
