  1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAmhvfHjbyU&feature=youtu.be Hello LOU friends, I fished for the first time with Tomy Lombardozzi and we had a great time. Today we fished from about 5:15 AM when the first lines went in the water until about 10:00 when we pulled up and headed for shore. We started in 140' and marked some bait in the top 25', but we didn't have any action until we slid out to about 200 fow. We had a classic "grind bite" for the next few hours with a fish here and there, although we did manage one double. We finished the day 9 for 12, with mostly steel, but one lake trout and two Chinook thrown in the mix. We did lose our last fish but managed to get a glimpse of a really nice king after it jumped and spit the hook about 60' behind the boat. Tomy taught me some nice things today and it was great to get together and fish, especially after reading many of his great reports over the past few years. We didn't really have any true pattern to our bites today, as everything including the 5/7/10 color cores, slide divers, and riggers all caught fish with a mixture of spoon colors thrown in the mix. We caught fish on N/S/E/W troll but the c urrent was pretty wicked today. The best bite was in the top 25' of the water column as it was an extremely narrow band of warm water from 62 degrees on the surface to a chilly 40 degrees down only 45' ! When we dropped the riggers below 45' they went cold, but as soon as we brought them up in the 15-20' area, they caught fish again. Green seemed to be the best color for us today, although reds did manage a few hits as well. The following spoons all caught fish: Albino frog from Mr. Fuller - MVP 42 sec DW standard Red/yellow SS spoon Wonderbread UV Glow Frog standard Fuller Mixed Veggie slider and mainline on the rigger Fuller AK 47 Thanks again Tomy for a great day on the water!! Good luck friends - Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there, Chris
  2. Google it - they have a link on their website for depths. It comes out to approx. 1' of depth for every 3' out. This is for mono line, I think about 2.2 mph, #3 setting with a spoon Good luck, Chris
  3. Awesome job!!! That's a beautiful Chinook. Tight lines - be safe, Chris
  4. Great job Tomy. It was another day of a good bite out of Rochester but I'm glad you guys found the Kings. WTG!! Chris
  5. Lots of great folks in the Rochester/I-Bay area who are always eager to help out. Good luck Saturday - we won't be back until Sunday so feel free to return the favor and post something too!! Take care, Chris
  6. I use cannon terminators for my riggers (Big Jon) where you thread the cable through a series of turns inside a plastic clamp (Google it). If I'm not mistaken, these terminators are insulated from the cable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSkyg3WkKtg Good luck, Chris
  7. I will fish both sides of the break by zig zagging back and forth (especially if a scum line is present) but usually in the spring the warmer side of the break is the best for me. As far as lure color, a few times on LOU (and I believe Keating and some of the local salmon seminars have covered this too), there is a corrolation between light penetration in the water based on light wavelength and what will stand out at certain depths. As I understand it, red/orange and yellow color doesn't penetrate the water very well so lures in these colors stand out more at surface depths between 0-30', whereas purple color can penetrate the water deeper so purple colors work better at deeper depths. Green and blue falls somewhere in between. That's my 30,000' view on it, but I know guys have posted on this before. Good luck, Chris
  8. Dan - thanks so much for saying this - it means a lot. Tight lines buddy - and same goes to you for all your great reports and videos! Chris
  9. Who the heck is Chris Momsy? Lmao...... I think Anthony might be drinking tequila again......
  10. It's a team effort my great friend in everything we do out there......there's nobody I trust more than you when we're out there on the water! Also - Rochester really has a great network of amateur and professional anglers who are always generous to share in their experiences to help others catch fish. Good luck friends, Chris
  11. Great job Dan Interesting how we couldn't get anything green going (some of the exact same spoons as you even), yet they produced for you. WTG - tight lines, Chris
  12. Here's the video folks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGYOjc3Px3w Hello LOU friends, I fished with my great buddy Anthony and once again today and we went into the morning with a game plan to focus offshore and focus on the top water given the hand that we were dealt with steady North and NE wind for the past few days. We motored out to 550' after dipping our toes in the 160 fow area only to see a barren screen so we continued our venture on out to 550'. On our way, we made a mental note of a rather sharp break around 340', but kept on going for some reason only to find an ice bath of clear 39-40 degree water on top. We fished it for about 15 minutes until we decided to pull rods and head back to the break in shallower. The break was still there so we fished it hard as the only boat out there, and we were rewarded with non stop steelhead and lake trout action. We also had a steady pick of lake trout and steelhead on our entire south troll back to port, from 340 fow to 180' on our concluding troll back to port. We fished everything in the top 15', and every single rod took fish today: riggers 15' and 17', surface lines with a 3/8 ounce keel weight, 3 and five color cores and slide divers all in the top 15'. Colors and speed mattered today - they wanted it no more than 2.25 on the Subtroll, but no less than 2, and it was a 100% spoon bite on reds, yellows, carmel dolphin and whites. Anything green, black or blue did not produce. Given previous analyses on the color spectrum and lure depth, it makes sense why these worked today. We finished the day 18 for 19, with three successful doubles and the largest steel around 8# and the largest laker 15#. We did not catch any kings today. FWIW, the times when the bite slowed for us, it was b/c we were dragging fish on the riggers. Once again I will go to bat for Rochester as it seems to have been the most consistent port this year. Hopefully I'll get the Gopro video up this week. Thanks again to Anthony for another spectacular day! He was the master of multitasking on our doubles! Good luck to all - go get 'em friends, Chris
  13. Awesome job Matt. Cheers and enjoy the weekend buddy, Chris
  14. Skippers - thanks for this great information. I also have a Subtroll and run it between 2.2 - 2.5 but didn't realize that in your video a Michigan Stingray size spoon was spinning at a downspeed of 2.5 on your ST. I also run these exact spoons and often at that speed. Can you comment on your experience with lure action of any other manufacturers and when/if they seem to spin at certain speeds? Thanks again, Chris
  15. I see what you're saying now - it's on the retrieve that there can be an issue. I'll keep an eye out for that, but I've never had premature wear on the cable that I'm aware of. That being said, I do change my coated cable every two years though. Chris
  16. I have always run mine on a big Jon rigger perpendicular to the gunwales. How would it wear any differently if the pulley on the rigger swivels? It's the same as if I ran it directly off the stern. Am I missing something?
  17. WTG!! Be safe and great talking with you yesterday, Chris
  18. Sold pending payment Thanks for looking
