Hi LOU friends, In follow up to my previous post and my thoughts on selling my boat this spring, my question is: is it completely necessary to provide a sea trial to every prospective buyer interseted in purchasing my used boat? My boat is an 08' Trophy and is in great shape but I can certainly understand wanting a sea trial. That being said, I was already stood up at the last minute by a recent person who expessed interest in buying my boat and who requested a sea trial first. Granted, my boat isn't really for sale yet, but I had taken time off from work to meet him, only for him to cancel that morning. I'm curious what other folks have done when buying/selling a boat. For me, it's just a matter of time - 2-3 hours of trailering/launching/driving the boat around/and retrieving it. There's nothing for me to hide, and I can understand the seriousness of a purchase on a vessel in the 17-20K price range. I know I have bought two other used boats without any type of seatrial and everything turned out fine. What have others done, and what thoughts do folks have on this? Thanks folks, Chris

Hello LOU friends, It's a long story, but I'm thinking of selling my boat. I recently purchased a large piece of hunting property with a cabin ,three ponds, and miles of trails and will need to devote my time to QDM, food plots, cabin and pond maintenance over the next few years so it'll be harder for me to devote the time to trolling. As most of you know, a boat that sits can typically go to pot quickly. Is it best to sell in fall or wait until spring? I'm looking at this from a fisherman/woman perspective, i.e. would they prefer to buy and work on the boat during the winter, or wait until spring whereas the owner has paid for winter storage. Thanks for any advice, Chris

Pugsleys - did it twice. Once for the original install with all the components, and the second was just the helm steering unit after it was recalled by Raymarine the following year. Granted, I helped out by cutting the hole in the wall for mounting the control head and that part took me about 30 minutes including clean up. My guess is an install is in the range of 3-5 hours, but I'm not sure if many boat mechanics are charging $150-$200/hour for labor. I don't want to insult anyone or their expertise, so I certainly could be wrong on the hourly labor rate. Spike makes a very good point above though if your boat layout is tricky. For me, I have an '08 Trophy and the cuddy (where the main unit and fluxgate are mounted) and cockpit wall are one in the same so it was easy to gain access. I think 1000.00 for an install seems very high to me. Chris

Took it in the pie hole? You took it in the a-hole! That's extremely expensive. I was charged for a 2.5 hr install and my marina did a great job. Cable steered boat, raymarine sport pilot, helm unit, control box, flux gate and the master unit all included in the install. If you needed to convert to hydraulic steering in your price ,then maybe it's within reason?

IMO, you are asking for tangles after a release if you run other lines off your cowbell presentation. I run cowbells for lake trout many times and honestly there is no need to stack or slide another lure as you are getting so many hits on the cowbells that you don't need another lure. I realize John is the rod legend, but in all honesty I simply cut my tips off with a hacksaw and gorilla glued the twilli's on to my rods.......and this was 8 years ago. They are still strong as new and I've never had any problems. It took me about 1 minute to do. Good luck, Chris
