    I don’t fish for perch on Seneca only Erie and a little on Ontario. I fish for walleye on Erie and trout n salmon on Ontario and Cayuga.What I typically see when I am looking for perch in 30-70fow on my Lowrance HDS screens is the bottom looking like the edge of a small, fine saw blade, this signature is very distinctly different than what I see when looking at Alewife pods in 50-200+ fow on Ontario or Cayuga on the same sonar set ups which are typically suspended and non linear blobs. I’m sure I’ve got perch and emerald shiner signature pics somewhere I’ll keep looking

    I fill DDPs for some local farmers but the Mosquitoes are just brutal in August/September when they typically get the permits. Are any of the ground blinds Mosquito proof, specifically the Deception Alps blind on Sale now At Runnings? Thanks for your input

    This is great news for the people who try and make a living serving these communities. Instead of lamenting the exclusive use people may have had to certain bodies of water we should work to ensure that the DEC and fisheries keeps up with the demand of more people fishing these waters

    The issue of mounting the displays while maintaining a very rugged movable module was solved using 2 track sections and pedestal track unit that enables the 2 sections to slide in and out and also fore and aft from another pedestal track unit in the track mounted on the gunnel of the vessels.

    So- the solution I eventually developed to clone screens ended up being a bigger deal than I had originally anticipated. After giving serious thought to what I really wanted to a accomplish I did the following: 1.) designed a movable rear station module to hold a Garmin PanOptix display a Lowrance HDS unit. and a iTroll digital throttle controller for main and kicker 2.) Networked the Lowrance HDS unit to the 2 HDS units in the wheelhouse (sonar/ gps and dedicated radar) with both Ethernet and Lowrance hard connection wires. I built 2 of these units- 1 for my Hardtop Crestliner and 1 for my outboard Crestliner ( both boats are setup for mounting the PanOptix transducer, so the transducer can be switched back and forth. ) For several years now my part time chartering trips have been so much easier with no trips to the wheel house to make autopilot, throttle, or sonar/ gps adjustments. Now I’m able to spend more time with my clients in the back of the boat exclusively where I wed to be

    Some of these paints do bubble some stick baits, have had issues with Smithwicks and Bayrats and Mag Lips - haven’t painted any Rapalas

    Sea ducks are actually ‘good eats’ . My personal favorites are shredded breast meat fajitas or ground breast meat tacos. I’m also very fond of smoking the breasts and combining with pork or beef and making the mix into brats. Like most wild foods- you can’t turn a sows ear into a silk purse , you have to learn and listen to your inner muse, read a little and most things can turn into delicious food https://honest-food.net/eating-sea-ducks/

    Wow- I am also looking for a good trailer for my winter boat but since I only paid $2500 for the boat and roller trailer I guess I’m not gonna be able to afford that rig 😉

    I will add that during hot eye bites I typically run just 1 mag wire dipsy divers and 2 reg braid dipsy divers per side in order to minimize my time spent getting a fish off and rig redeployed.

    Yes divers slide well on 40# mono ( I don’t actually use big game but don’t think that’s an issue). 40# mono is imho the ‘right’ stuff, it will last a season without getting compromised by wear unless accidentally nicked. I’ve gotten so I only use a 20’ stretch because much more than that seems unnecessary

    General pointers on jigging for Flx lakers: 7’ mh rod, baitcasting reel, 12 lb superbraid to 5’ 8lb floro leader ( Albright knot). Have 3/4 - 1.5 oz jig heads - sharp sharp hooks. White super fluke , and chartreuse. Find a concentration of lakers- don’t jig where there are no fish ( keep looking). Use bowmount to maintain position. Drop straight down, bounce 3 times ( that’s it!) then rapid retrieval. Most hits are light, like a ‘tick’. When a ‘tick’ is detected set hook absolutely immediately, many people just miss a lot of the hits. They will chase on retrieval as well and this hit is unmistakable. They will hit on the drop sometimes, best advice for anything but the retrieval hit ( instant rod load) is set the hook anytime something seems off. In general 50-60 fow is great, keeping the jig vertical gets tougher at 100. Start with 3/4 , increase as necessary to maintain vertical presentation. Did I mention that you absolutely should find a concentration of fish. Yeah I did. If you can’t find a concentration you are far better off trolling drop offs or wherever you can find bait

    IMHO: Comment regarding survey and especially personal experience seems inappropriate. As a inviolable rule nobody should buy a boat without a professional survey but no need to restate here or in any other ‘For Sale’ post. It’s just common knowledge.

    Kings are getting caught from 180 on out. Meat has been a very steady producer but I would start out with a mix. Ff combos have not been particularly productive for me. If it’s really rockin we have been successful on browns but finding the right downtemp is definitely critical

    Not only is Gill T correct in terms of the specific wording of the game laws there are also other considerations. As charter captain’s we have an especially close relationship with the fishery and it’s sustainability. Consequently it’s important that we not only protect it but also be models of prudent behavior.

    Oddly enough- I trolled past a very large drowned rat yesterday out near the scum line just past the drop off yesterday! FYI : USCG was doing work on the Beacon out there yesterday as well
