  1. I wouldn't go out there yet. http://www.buffalonews.com/city/communi ... 287985.ece
  2. Let me ask the question, since we use India and China, two countries that are becoming toxic wastelands and polluted beyond habitation, what is the right solution? It is easy to punch holes in everything anyone says or does, but trickier to propose workable solutions. Isn't this site devoted to people who utilize our natural resources, sportsmen in fact? Should we go back to doing business when we were like China and India in the early part of last century and just dump everything in the lake? They do over there... Sorry, I'm not just so quick to condemn ideas which may lead to protecting resources such as the big O so that my children may someday get a chance to enjoy them as I have.
  3. While opinion on the matter varies, Brazil says you are flat wrong.
  4. Interesting read: http://www.bassdozer.com/articles/manns ... _out.shtml
  5. I whole heartedly disagree with the continued pressure and pleas from others to "get out and vote". Your participation in the elections, by voting, is also what the current system uses to justify it's legitimacy. When the current power structure is questioned, it can point at election night and make the statements we've all come to know and love, like "see, the system works" or "the people have spoken" or "we are a government by the people, for the people, and voter turnout shows..." blah blah blah. It is alway the same old thing...two party corruption. Facts from last 50 years, regardless of party in power: -Taxes have gone up, well in excess of incomes -Quality of life has gone down -Personal freedoms have been lost -Patronage rules -Bloat in public sector -Economy has generally declined -etc.. -etc.. What I'd love to see is NO voter turnout. I'd love to see them justify the process and the system when turnout was less then 1%. That would be a way to force change people. That would be a way to send a message. Because if th people no longer play the game...and are united...then REAL CHANGE can be created. They would know in Albany/Washington that the people are done with it...and that next time April 15th might be the day people don't feel like participating. Go line up to pull the handle on useless candidate A, or useless candidate B...pick the lesser or two evils. But know, that once you have voted you are now in cahoots with the muppet you voted for and you essentially just volunteered for the screw job he/she is going to administer to you.
  6. So I am a long time gun owner. Though I do not hunt, I target, trap, sport, etc... shoot. That said, I am a supporter of the second amendment, but not in the drastic, overboard, extremist way the NRA applies to it. I would like to support an organization that protects our rights and keeps an eye on big brother but in a sane manner. I have scanned the internet...and crazy enough, I only find the lobbying organizations and arms of the extremes. Either it is assault weapons at Rite Aid, or ban ban ban. Anyone know where the middle ground lives?
  7. I refuse to take any poll that does not include the hooker and rent is too damn high guy, (Jimmy McMillan). A vote for either Paladino or Cuomo is a vote for more embezzlement by our black mailing self important over privileged public sector. The revolution is coming...
  8. 6PM to 12:30 AM. No fish, no hits, anywhere. Flow in creek was very heavy....tons of debris and weeds coming downstream. Fished both creek and lake side. No one had a hit or had seen a fish all day. Not sure what is going on....it is crazy. Either: A) Weather this year has screwed them up and they have not run in numbers yet B) Weather this year has screwed them up and they are running spread out over so many months that numbers any particular day are down C) Numbers are just way down D) They already ran, in secret, when and where no one was watching E) Other, feel free to compose your own creative theory
  9. Setup at 8PM. Saw two guys briefly hookup on lake side, but neither for more than a minute. Left at 1AM, as the wind just wore me out. Still nothing going on...though both piers were packed shoulder to shoulder with the absolute best of human nature coming out. I know that pier fishing tends to bring out what some would mock as 'amateurs', but those aren't the worst offenders. A bunch of guys from out of the area who mentioned that they had just come from a guide trip up the salmon rivers broke glass, left crap everywhere and setup from one side to the other blocking the whole pier then giving people who were trying to pass grief. Usual junk...better off sticking to week days, at least after sundown when the worst the world has to offer roll in from their usual haunt up at the dam. I figure I'll give it another try Wednesday or Thursday. From what I hear East end is really just starting now and west end always lags behind. If they don't start running soon I fear they'll be Salmoncicles
  10. Trucks...when it happens you'll know. A fish being caught every 10 minutes at least, guys with 3 or 4 laying on the pier...guys shoulder to shoulder on the wall and every fish a damn nightmare of tangles and people screaming at each other....when it happens it is good fun, and I won't go up there other then weeknights after 10PM because of the stupid factor, lol.
  11. I went up to the east pier last night about 9:30 and tossed out two egg sacs. It wasn't packed, but there were a fair number of people there. The guy about 50 feet away from me mentioned that he had been there since 2:30 in the afternoon and other then a small steelie off the point with a spoon, no one had done anything. There were about 15 boats buzzing the mouth and the walls as the full moon made it bright enough to see miles. I had one nudge but nothing else. I saw one King taken at about 12:30 AM, a male in the mid 20's. I bailed at 1:30 AM and went to bed. Looks to be about the same as last week...a few random stragglers, but the REAL run hasn't started yet. I was going to take tomorrow off and take the boat out one last time but it looks like yet another crap weekend. Sunday might have a prayer. I'll be back on the pier Saturday night more than likely.
  12. It is interesting how the average 'sportsman' plays the role of conservation and environmental concern (see windmills) when it suits them....then shifts to environmental sham mode when it also suits them (lead). It seems many of our simple and innocent fishing and hunting folk are just as agenda driven and political in nature as the evil brood in Albany they often point the finger at....
  13. I run 17# until the fleas show, 30# at that point, back to 17# once they are gone.
  14. I'd be interested, but I need to move a Trophy 1802 to make room. What is policy on trade ins with the wife, lol?
  15. This whole thread as much as anything is the reason why enrollment in derbies has shrunk. Tourneys bring money issues, politics and general BS to what is supposed to be RECREATION for most. Sure there are a handful of guys trying to make a career of it, but very few. As prizes grew, the amount of stupid people doing stupid things grew...by 1990 you couldn't even fish the mouth of the Genny without worrying about some weekend warrior running you down with his mothers, brothers, cousins tin jalopy. My dad and I did 4 or 5 derbies, at least, every year for 20 years. I haven't signed up for one in five years though, none. I fish for me...for relaxation, for sport and for FUN. That said, I'll keep buying Tom's stuff for me, for friends, etc.. and keep recommending his stuff, because it catches fish. And that is what I'm doing out there. Catching fish. And if his prices drop 15% because he is not sponsoring some of these things...I bet I buy 15% more, or at least 10% more of his stuff and 5% more
  16. I've seen a few Albe 265's around, but I can only imagine that they roll like hell with the 24 degree hull. They reduced it to 21 degrees deadrise on the 268 in 2003.
  17. Anyone with a lead on any of the following, let me know (I'm looking for something <~ 500 hours and not salt water used regularly), if outboard prefer 1 Big over two small: Albemarle 268 Grady 265 Triton 2690 Wellcraft 270 Robalo 265 Whaler 275 Parker 2530
  18. Assuming you are aluminum, it is a non-issue on any but the flattest of ramps. Weight is the issue not length, and a 18 glass may very well outweigh a 22 metal hull. My personal preference on an 'active' boat is rollers over 4000#'s no doubt. 3000's ramp makes a big difference, under 3000 why bother. That's my .02
  19. All items known to man sold with a 'lifetime' warranty are sold with the caveat that the 'lifetime' is an established expected baseline for the device, not YOUR lifetime. In most cases, if you read the small print or ask they'll tell you what that number is. I bought some electronics at one point with a 'lifetime' warranty, and upon making a call I determined that to be 8 years. As someone stated, technology and devices evolve and no one will support anything forever, nor can they unless the up front price was 4x average, then the consumer would have a fit about that I'm sure. What is more interesting to look at is not the term, but rather the warranty is prorated over the 'life' of the device. I don't care if it is 5 years, as long as 4.5 years = full replacement or full value credit. If it deducts 20% per year, as many do, then the warranty is not worth the paper it is written on. Just my .02
  20. I have had good luck throughout the years with Roemer's. I don't run any coated cable, so game on.
  21. If they don't have 100 things more important to do then this then there are bigger issues to address..
