  1. My experience visiting the Sutton store in Naples has been hit or miss. I occasionally can pass through there on my way to business meetings in Buffalo area. If you have the chance to go, you should. The store is like a trip back in time. From the pressed tin ceiling to the man, Jim Stafford, himself, there is nothing like it. By no means does visiting the store equate to being sold hard to find Sutton spoon sizes. On some days I have been sent on my way with a "don't have any". Other days Jim has found his way into some unlabeled, unrecognizable wooden drawer and put me onto a top performer that I had never used before. My by far best day was when I bought the components for a Seth Green rig. He lit up as much as Jim ever does and worked with me for a good amount of time and introduced me to many of the spoons that mimic the 44's. Some do, some don't. Jim seems to know the difference. It is a unique experience. (I have NEVER been able to get a Sutton #44 there in many years of visits) Here is an old Sutton #26 with a box swivel marked: S.R. SUTTON
  2. No fleas yet (usually pop out when surface temp hits 70). Weeds depends on the amount of wind. No wind equals a medium/ bearable amount of weeds. Also no wind equals some debris/ wood to avoid.
  3. I would like 2 - 13 lb torpedoes Pm sent
  4. Fished north of Meyers - east side - to AES this morning. Had a similar experience. Early bite was good. Three LL, two shorts and one legal. Bite died by 9:30. Had a nice boat ride after that. Fish came all on a funky Matzuo Kinchou Minnow in perch. 25 down over 40-60 ft.
  5. Barney is a Cayuga Lake icon. He will be sorely missed by all. He always made you feel welcome, even if you were dropping in unannounced at his house to turn in a B&B Derby entry form. I think my dog liked him better than my dog likes me. Barney will live on through retelling of the endless stories we all have about him. Our prayers go out to his family. We were all blessed to know him.
  6. I spoke to Bear and I am semi sure he said May 21-22.
  7. Ahab....Atlantic Salmon/Landlocked Salmon need to be 18" on Cayuga to be legal
  8. SwedishFish, you have a PM (Personal Message -Look at the top of the page for the envelope icon)
  9. Got it..Thanks..
  10. Nice Fish FH, Just to help me hone in my fall/winter program...What was your thought for fishing bottom in 50ft. You were not thinking Salmon were you? Thanks
  11. Fished Cayuga today out of Meyers. Launched at 9ish. A regular who was returning reported a skunk. He rarely gets nothing. I fished the top 60 ft over deep water between Taughannock and Meyers and eventually headed south past the Yacht Club and back through the same area I started in. Morning was slow. The entire day was all salmon. All dinks but one. The whole day was real slow. I had a great flurry of activity an hour before sundown. I got one legal size salmon on a Sutton cheater just as I was finishing up. There are giant buoys down past the Yacht club. There is a rig that is probably for cleaning the Lake Source Cooling pipe. The buoys might be for that. I stayed clear as I could. I also heard they are netting for egg collecting.
  12. Fished Cayuga this weekend. Out of Meyers - headed north. Next day out of Long Point - headed south. Fished temp and above. Morning bite was light the first day and non-existent today. Sunday brought a fantastic bow out over the deep water. Over 5 pounder. Great fight with jumps. On a rigger with a small Stinger in purple. Released at boat. Today I fished just north of same deep water as Sunday. I ended up having to adjust my troll to avoid the weeds. Stayed over the deep water. It paid off with a great LL Salmon about the same size as the Bow from Sunday. It jumped once and came to the net tangled in the line. I netted it with the rubber net. Untangled it and put it back in the water with the net. She was really lively in the net so I dumped her out. She floated so I did a quick circle to see if I could get her revived. Got right to her and took my eyes off for a second and she was gone. I hope she makes it. That was a beautiful fish. That fish came on the same purple small stinger. Great to see some Salmon growing up and becoming such great fish. I have spent years clearing lines with the little ones that are so crazy aggressive. Sorry no pics..had to get these fish back in quick.
  13. Brent...Yep... 2002 Arima Sea Chaser 15 11. Perfect Finger Lakes boat!
  14. Fished almost exact same area as Skatch on both Sat and Sun eves. Fished riggers the top 40ft mostly. Got one average Laker each night and a bunch of baby bows.
  15. Many years ago I was talked into two tone (grey/black) downrigger covers by Doris. Those covers have gone through Heck and back. Several squirrels built nests in them, but out of respect for Doris' craftsmanship they never even nibbled on them. They have blown off going down the road when I forgot to remove them and sat in a ditch for a week before I found the lost bugger. They are truly as functional now as when I bought them a bazillion years ago. Doris, your legacy lives on...what will we do without you? You two enjoy every minute of your new stomping grounds. We will miss you.
  16. All Arimas are seaworthy...but on Lake O you might want the 17 or 19 for snotty days. The West Coast guys do use 17s for near shore use all the time but generally move up to 19s 21s and 22s for any significant off shore use. (Carefully check out the porta potty space in a Sea Explorer vs a 17 Sea Ranger...that alone might influence your decision) As for your Sea Explorer 16, it will work on Lake Ontario for days with good weather, but it will probably make you decide to stay in port on rougher days.
  17. The Sea Explorer 16 is a pocket cruiser. Its purpose is to allow you to sleep in the cuddy on a boat that size. The rear deck area (dance floor) area can be greatly affected by the seating arrangement. See the following video for a visual on how seating can effect the amount of room for fishing. The best motor size for that boat is a four stroke 60 or 70hp. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-RuXUIjMmk
  18. Arimas are great boats. I have a smaller one. There are tons of plusses. I'll let you in on the secret minuses. You will rarely hear about the minuses because they are so outweighed by the plusses. 1) Not self bailing...unless you go with a 22 Sea Legend. 2) Not real fast...Most top out in the 30's. You can put a huge motor on it and it won't go much faster. Its a semi displacement hull. 3) Beats the h*ll out of your back in rough water. It's impractical to go fast in rough water. You must slow down to get an acceptable ride in the slop. It's not a deep V. 4) Older models are a wet ride. A 90's redesign helped a lot. 5) Water magically gets into weird places (motor well cable boots, under the rub rail, and many other crazy places) leading you to search frantically for non existent hull breaches 6) Anchoring is challenging. 7) Can be stern heavy (way more so the smaller you go) Hard Top is low...5'8" max 9) Cheaper on East Coast, but HARD to find on the East Coast 10) So wide, trailering issues arise. 11) Challenging to dock in the wind...think controlled crash 12) Maximum size is 22'. 13) Automotive grade wiring from factory. With all that said, if what you are looking for is a fast boat in the chop, move on...if you can stand to slow down and use trim tabs there are very few similar sized boats that are better.
  19. Suttontroller you have a PM
