  2. Last year I saw a buck in March that still had both antlers. Ironically it was the same buck I shot with the rifle this fall. It was obviously a mild winter last year. Maybe it has something to do with the how harsh the winter will be? It hasn't been harsh yet but we have had plenty of snow so far. It would be interesting to see if there is a pattern that coincides with the weather. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  3. According to these guys, jaw aging is less than 50% accurate. There is way too much variation in what each deer is eating. They also teach you how to verify that a deer is 2.5 or older from the jaw. However, the best way to tell is to pop a front tooth and send it to them. I sent them a tooth last year and they confirmed that my buck was 3.5 years old. http://www.deerage.com/aging-deer/ Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  4. It won't matter what carrier you use for your cell. The trail camera has its own minimal plan. Here is a good look at Moultrie Mobile. I am going to get one soon and I will post my results after some testing. Browning has something comparable but theirs is camera specific with no add on needed. http://www.bowsite.com/BOWSITE/features/articles/equipment/MoultrieMobileReview/ Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  5. I run all Moultrie now. My first cam was a cuddeback 13 years ago with the old school flash. It is sort of amusing to look at it now and it cost a lot back then too. I had my first issue with a Moultrie this year. The cam is 5 years old and started draining batteries very fast. Other than that they have worked great. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  6. Good stuff Legacy. I keep a fishing and hunting log. At the end of the season I write a summary of things that happened and things to change for next year. It is very useful for me. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  9. So they can die in comfort. The DEC does not even list it under starvation or poor food. It's obviously not highly nutritious but I think it serves its purpose. http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7195.html Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  10. Double post.
  11. Why do deer migrate to these areas then? So they can die anyway? It seems to at least keep them alive. I never find winterkill here... I also like to cut my trees down for firewood this time of year just so the deer get a little fresh browse. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  12. I live in the southwestern part of the northern zone. When we get 2' of snow or more on the ground they move into my property. It is mainly hemlock swamp. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  21. Here is a detailed review of the Moultrie mobile. You can do it for less than $300 too. Cabelas and Bass Pro have the Moultrie Mobile for $200 right now and you can get several different models of Moultrie cameras for under $100. http://www.bowsite.com/BOWSITE/features/articles/equipment/MoultrieMobileReview/ Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  24. The newer Moultries have straps but I am sure there is a cable that can be purchased. I have a feeling that these people would destroy the camera if they couldn't get it off the tree though... Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  25. Anybody have any creative ideas for catching trespassers and thieves with trail cameras? I had my best trail cam stolen just before bow season opened this year. Last year one of my SD cards disappeared and several years ago I had some vandalism. I am thinking about getting Moultrie mobile and a security box. I might even put a note out that makes them aware that their picture was already sent to me and unless they want to add vandalism/theft to the list, they should leave the camera alone. The other option is to set up a decoy camera by using an old junk trail cam and then hide a good camera up high that monitors the junk camera. I like option 1 even though it is more expensive. It seems like the chances are better of getting a good picture and giving them a big "F U" at the same time. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
