  3. My mom is 70 and she just started hunting with a crossbow instead of a compound. She has a ten point and I agree the trigger pull is perfect for her. As far as comparing compound bows and crossbows, a crossbow is much easier to shoot no matter the distance. My mom is all over the target with her compound but dead nuts with the crossbow. She can rest it and she can easily shoot while sitting. She can wait for the right shot and not worry about drawing early and holding or letting down and drawing again. The 2 weapons are not even close to equal but that is just my .02. That being said, you will have to pry my compound from my cold dead hands. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  6. I have my dads old 742 and a model 4 (special edition 7400) and have never had an issue. I do remember one time my brother loaded his 742 30-06 and he slid the action closed slowly to be quiet. Later that day his gun wouldn't fire when a buck came through. He figured out that the hammer never cocked or went back down slowly when he slid the action closed. 7. That is awesome! Congratulations to your son. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. Agreed. Hunter numbers are dropping and the state is going to have an increasingly tough time managing the deer numbers. They can't even meet the quota now. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. I wonder how an opener like this affects the deer take. It seems like a lot of guys only hunt opening weekend. The number of shots that I heard was way down yesterday. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  11. Thanks Ryan.
  12. Thanks everyone. It was a day I won't forget. It was fun re-tracking out the bucks with my son. It was hilarious when we got really close to the deer and he just kept tracking and looking at the ground. He was 10' away before he realized the deer was there and his reaction was priceless.
  13. Pap, A lot of these guys hunt in Western NY where there is a lot of agriculture. However, the passing on small bucks has really caught on over the past several years. I feel like it started mainly in WNY and is working it's way throughout the southern zone. As success builds the bar gets raised from 2.5 or older to 3.5 or older and so on. I hunt 3 different parts of the state. I hunt WNY, the southwestern part of the Northern zone, and Otsego County. I can tell you that there is a HUGE difference in the quality of the deer in WNY. Where I live in the northern zone people just want to shoot "a buck" so it is tough for them to get old. A 3.5 year old buck is rare here. So my thought is it has less to do with what the NY DEC is doing and lot more to do with the influence of hunters on each other.
  14. Wow that is an awesome buck. Congrats to that young lady.
  15. What a day yesterday was. I took my mom out with the rifle in the Northern Zone to try and get her a shot at a buck. So at daylight a small buck goes by me, looked like a 4 point. Then at 7:30 she shoots and it sounds like she had a good shot by the way she described it. So I told her I would stop over at 9 and track him out. At 8:30 I catch some movement and then I see nothing for 10 minutes. Then out steps a nice 9 point. He gave me plenty of time for a good shot and I thought long and hard about filling my last buck tag. Since he was about the biggest I have ever seen on my land I decided to shoot. He went just out of sight and crashed. I tracked him out. Then I went over to my mom and tracked her buck out. It was a 4 point, not the same buck I passed on though. I was proud of her for making a good shot. It was such a nice day I decided to go back in and get my 4 year old son for a little tracking. He helped me load them up. It was an awesome day. Just perfect weather, 2 clean kills, and a fun time with my mom and son.
  16. Congrats again Scott. Great pics. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  17. Pap nailed it. You won't regret the time you spent with that child. My wife had our second child this spring and it put a cramp in my walleye fishing. It is worth it though.Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
