  1. Congrats again Scott. That is the king of a lifetime right there!
  2. I think the lack of small "cookie cutter" browns is a big issue. I have only been out 1 time this year (Oswego) and all our browns were in the 6-10lb. range. From all the reports I have seen, the majority of the browns caught are older fish. Did they cut back stocking last year? It looks like they will be stocking less this year. "Severe, disease related losses of brown trout at the NYSDEC Rome Hatchery in 2012 will impact 2013 yearling stocking statewide. Current projections suggest a 27% reduction in the number of brown trout yearlings stocked into Lake Ontario (reduction from 385,000 to 281,000)."
  3. I have done well in the harbor on windy days.
  4. I stopped by the Mexico launch this morning and the lot was empty. I was surprised because the lake looked very fishable.
  5. I have always run sticks for browns on flatlines. Last year I brought the riggers one day and ran spoons (NKs) on them back 50' down 3' and sticks on the planers back 60' and 90'. The water was crystal clear, fairly calm, and it was sunny. I was in the 6' - 15' depth range. I was thinking the riggers would be dead because of the clear water and the board/sticks would take all the fish. WRONG! I could not get a fish to touch the sticks but they were pounding the spoons on the riggers. So after a while I put a loco out in place of a stick and started getting fish on that too. I never caught a fish on a stick that day. The bottom line is it might not be the type of spoons/leader/depth/line/snap swivel/speed. Some days the fish hit sticks over spoons and some days it's the other way around. Don't over think it!
  6. Sounds like a good day. The boat is coming out soon. One more trip on the ice then it's game on.
  7. You're sick of hammering those walleyes already?? Good luck.
  8. Very nice! Congratulations to you and your son!!!
  9. Sail flow (mentioned above) is great. They have an app for the iPhone called Wind Alert that lets you search for weather stations and view the current wind conditions and the predicted wind for the next few days. It is at least as accurate as NOAA. [ Post made via iPhone ]
  10. One time my dad caught a laker with about 7 finish nails in it's belly. We figured somebody had used the nails to weight down a cisco and the fish took the bait without getting hooked. The scuplin theory makes sense.
  11. Thanks for the clarification. [ Post made via iPhone ]
  12. Thanks zern, I have read that... Sometimes there are regulations that change mid license year that may not show up in that particular page. Does anyone know if there any plans to change the limit of lakers on Keuka? [ Post made via iPhone ]
  13. From what I have read the limit for lakers on Keuka is 3 per person just like the other fingerlakes. I know there was some discussion about maybe raising the limit. Is it still 3? [ Post made via iPhone ]
  14. You guys did great. It was nice chatting with you at the launch. It seemed like the higher the sun got the better they hit. [ Post made via iPhone ]
  15. I am pretty sure we talked to you and your buddy as you went by Sunday. We were the ones that stayed until well after sunset. Fishing Saturday must have been fun in that wind and snow! We did decent on Sunday too once we found them. [ Post made via iPhone ]
  16. Looks like a horrible season, sorry you had to suffer through it Just shooting one of those bucks would make it my best season EVER! Congrats on 2 nice bucks. [ Post made via iPhone ]
  17. Nice Job ICEMAN! The eyes are stacked up in the deep water (40' - 50') right now. The shore bite is very wind dependent. Even though the eyes are deep during the day there are always some along the shore. Could be good the next couple of nights.
  18. Johnny - I gotta say I enjoyed the women in bikinis better...
  19. LOL!!! How cold do you think it is up here? Unfortunatly it is not even close to frozen. [ Post made via iPhone ]
  20. Nice Browns! They look like footballs out of Ontario.
  21. Sweet looking boat! [ Post made via iPhone ]
  22. It was pretty slow out of Oswego too. Fished between Alcan and the plant in mainly 120 - 140. Picked up too nice kings early but no bites from 7:30 - 1:00. Didn't see many nets out today. [ Post made via iPhone ]

I agree with REDEYES, I would go with cranks/stick baits this time of year. However, I RARELY run them down to bottom this time of year. A lot of fish are suspended as high as 15' down over the deep water 40'+. Watch the sonar and try to get your baits where you are marking the fish. Fished for 2 hours last night and picked up 4 nice eyes. They were down 20' - 25' then just before dark they went deeper and were near bottom.
