  1. You can catch them jigging all summer but a lot of guys switch over to trolling in July and August. I think it is a little easier to catch them trolling in the summer because a lot of them are suspended. You can always jig in and along the weeds and catch them mid summer. Personally trolling is a last resort. I would rather catch them jigging or casting sticks any day. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  2. Right now the fish seem very scattered so having a good finder does not matter much. I seriously caught eyes from 4' - 44' of water on Saturday. There is no magic depth to target them at and they are not really schooled up on structure either. I would check a map for the shoals and islands near Constantia. There are a few islands to watch out for there, plus Dakin shoal and Willard island a little to the East. I like to jig bucktails but I know a lot of guys are doing very well drifting worm harnesses right now. If you drag worm harnesses and jig in 15' - 25' right now your are probably going to come across some walleyes.
  3. It is on the Navionics on my iphone. The called it Whitney Point Lake.
  4. Those are some chunky walleyes. Well Done!
  5. We all have those days. It always happens to me when I have someone on board that I really want to catch fish. You will get them next time. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  6. Walleyes do group by size for the most part. Being on 18" - 20" eyes is normally good problem on Oneida. To place in these tourneys it seems like you need to put together a bag of fish in the 20s though. There is always a mix of trollers and jiggers at the top so I am not sure that changing tactics is the way to go.
  7. Is there any chance that they will stock more fish each time since they are doing it every other year? I have always thought that it would be better to stock these lakes every other year but stock twice as many fish. So they would receive the same amount of fish on average. The survival rate would probably be better and it would cut down on some travel costs. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. That is awesome. I bet it's a lot more fun catching them like that! Nice job. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

    Smelt

Nice job on the smelt Kevin. We have the camp on trolley car. Lots of smelt in there. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  11. There is some great info here guys. I agree, the best way to cover your scent is to control it. Play the wind on EVERY sit and don't over use your spots. If possible do not sit the same stand 2 sits in a row. Don't let them pattern you. Another thing I do sometimes is save 1 stand for the perfect time. I did that last year and it worked out great. I took a nice buck on the first sit in my favorite spot and it was 11/15. Less equals more. The less I hunt an area the more deer I see per sit. Just my .02
  12. I put on a 10" B-Stinger this year and I have been shooting tighter groups ever since. Both field points and broadheads are grouping better.
  13. Way to stick with it Kevin. Meat in the freezer!

I think the fish are thin because of the later winter and cool spring. The bait is on the small side as well. There are always eyes in the deep water too. I have caught them well into December from the boat in deep water. Might try this weekend if the weather cooperates.
  15. Congrats Tank! I would take that buck any day.
  16. They will sink to bottom soon. Way before we get any ice.
  17. I don't see any weeds on bottom once I get deeper than 13' - 14'. There could be some dead clumps of weeds somewhat suspended in the water column I guess. Everything I run into is on the surface. I use the snap clip on my lead core and it works well enough. If the weeds are bad I normally just run 2 lead core poles and do just fine anyway. Sometimes more rods are a waste of time, especially when the weeds are bad. Luckily this problem will go away very soon!!!
  18. Yes, the weeds are a pain. I keep trolling until I find a section with no weeds and stay in that area. I bet it's game on once those weeds are gone...
  19. X2 on the perch colored sticks. Did great yesterday on perch colored F7s and Husky jerk 8s. Lots of perch mixed in too. 5 colors of lead core. Same depth range as well 32' - 40' and my speed was 2.0 - 2.3.
  20. Well done. Do you think the bite got tougher when the gobies arrived? I know it has been several years but I am just curious. They are in Oneida now and it will be interesting to see how they affect the lake. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. That's a great pic. The sun is not even up yet! Keep em coming. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Got out this evening with my FIL and BIL. We fished from 90' - 160'. Went 1/2 with a upper teens king in 100' straight off the north dunes. We seriously only marked about 15 fish in the 3 hours that we fished. Pretty slow but we had a blast and didn't get skunked! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. It's a tough call, you won't know until you get there I don't think. Either way I would go and troll if you have to. The barometer should be dropping nicely with a low pressure system coming in. I bet they will be biting...
