Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! payment sent . Thank You ! JT -
I think it really depends on how much $$$ you want to spend . Unless your going to buy a combo with a 8" or larger screen I would buy 2 units . I picked up a nice Ray DS500 on sale at Bethel marine and plan on buying a Garmin GPS this spring . I am never a big fan of putting all my eggs in 1 basket , so I like knowing if one unit is going in for service I will still have the other. And I will do it for well under a $1k . On the transducer do you mean setting the puck inside the hull and letting it shoot thur the fiberglass or drilling a hole in the bottom with a hull mounted transducer? The best I believe would be , hull mount , transom mount and then thur the hull . Good Luck !

Jax I had a Starcraft I restored. I painted it with Marine enamel and a small 4" foam roller . It came out like glass, you couldn't tell it wasn't sprayed. Went to PepBoys and bought some pin striping , the boat looked great when it was done . Just be sure to use some aluminum primer on any bare spots. Got the idea from this web site- http://www.sailingworld.com/sailing-gea ... 00727.html (didn't use the brush just the roller) Just a thought! Good Luck ! JT

while you got the motor out it's a good time to check the coupler for wear. http://www.mercstuff.com/page08.htm

I have epoxied a block and it worked great. First you want to drill a small hole at each end of the crack to keep it from spreading . Then grind the crack to get a good clean surface . I even drilled a few 1/8" holes along the center of the crack to force the epoxy into crack to give it more holding power. ( you want to force the epoxy into the crack so it curls into block ) Boat engines don't build up pressure like the closed cooling system in you car. Unless the crack is so bad that the whole piece could fall off I don't think you have much to lose by trying the epoxy. Good Luck JT

Have a couple ??. 1st- I have a dash mounted VHF radio , is it worth the trouble to remove it for the winter with the rest of the electronics ? 2nd- The boat has a wash down pump and a live well pump both connected to a through hull on the bottom of the boat. Will they drain or do I need to get anti freeze in them ? Thanks for any help !! JT

It sounds like he is saying the top of the outdrive is below the waterline . Don't think it's a bad thing if it is.

* Federal law requires single-hull boats less than 20 feet in length to have a capacity plate. (However, PWC and sailboat manufacturers are not required to attach a capacity plate.) Always follow the recommended capacity found in the owner's manual and on the manufacturer's warning decal. Never exceed these capacity recommendations. * On vessels with no capacity plate, use the following rule of thumb to calculate the number of persons (weighing 150 lbs. each, on average) the vessel can carry safely in good weather conditions. Number of people = vessel length (ft.) x vessel width (ft.) 15 For example, for a vessel 18 feet long by 6 feet wide, the number of persons is 18 times 6 (or 108) divided by 15, which equals seven 150-lb. persons (or a total person weight of 7 x 150, or 1050 lbs.). * On outboard boats, the capacity plate also will display the recommended maximum horsepower rating of the boat. Your boat's motor should never exceed this rating. -

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Jack ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):9/8 Time on Water:6ish -10:30 Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction:lite Waves: Surface Temp: 73 Location:west of the river LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 6 Total Boated:4 all most - knock one off with the net (fishing solo) Species Breakdown:Kings Hot Lure: Spin Doctor white and blue Trolling Speed: 2.2-2.8 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 50-55 Lure Depth: 40 on rigger 125 wire dipsy ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Trolled out the river pulling some spoons marking a lot of bait . Was the first boat out so trolled both sides of the pier. No Luck . A couple of charters came out and headed toward Russell so I followed . (like a sheep in the woods) Went out to 55' and fished between the beach and Russell . Once I got the spoons out and put the SD's on a wire dipsy and one down 40' on the rigger the fun started . The biggest King was 30lbs. 41" on the wire dipsy-took a dozen tries to get him in the net .(9.5' pole in one hand net in the other - yahoo) The others were high teens low 20's . Except maybe the one that took my SD and slider home with him. Best fishing I ever had solo. Was a Great Day !! Good Luck !! ====================

Hi ! Just bought a 1851 DC STRIPER with a 150 Yamaha . Love the boat ! The Yamaha is great on gas and trolls nice . Fish lake O solo a lot and works GREAT . Have had a bunch of boats and this is got to be the best riding 18' boat I've ever been in . Easy to trailer as well . Not sure how big a boat your looking for but in this size the Striper would be hard to beat. Got mine at Happy Days too . Good people . Good Luck ! JT

Hi ! Last season seems like everything I read said get any color you want as long as it was black . Fishing out of Sodus this summer I noticed a lot of charter folks running some very colorful dipsies that looked more like flashers. (greens with silver tape , chrome etc...) Just wondering what folks thought was hot this year. Thanks JT

Hi ! Looking for a rod holder to run copper down the chute. Folks seem to love these Cisco holders, but it looks like they use fiction to adjust the rod holder and wonder how well they hold without slipping . (want something that adj up and down and side to side) Also where is the best place to buy them ? Thanks for any help ! JT

Hi ! Just started running wire . How important is to cut out the bends and curley Q's . Don't have any kinks but always seem to end up bends in the wire from boating fish and rigging the divers. Thanks JT

Hi ! Just installed one on my boat too. Is the speed very accurate when trolling ? Mine seems way off , played with the transducer still no luck. When going 3mph reads .6 mph. Thanks JT

Well I used a heat gun to remove the tip and what was under the tip was pretty nasty . Looks like Daiwa grinds the rod before they glue the tip on . So I cut the nasty off and glued my new tips on. They came out nice . I guess sometimes shorter is better.
