I am finding out the hard way, not that it is a surprise to me but I am having the transom re-done now on a boat over 20 years old.

price adjustment 6/8 to $1495.00-I have used the boat the past two weekends boat works fine. For someone who has a motor sitting, it is an inexpensive way to get on the water-boat can be towed by just about anything. Or buy the 40 hp that I have on it.

Unfortunately in the mid 80's these Bayliners were underpowered. To expect a 125 hp 4 cylinder motor to push a boat a boat weighing close to 4000 pounds when new is expecting a lot. Given the years, it is likely the boat weighs more due to soaked floatation etc. I would start with the prop but a prop change is not going to gain it 10 mph. RPM's seem in the right neighborhood.

You may also want to look at the American Angler series by Smokercraft-similar in style-not sure how many dealers carry those in the east either.

The boat should be surveyed. On a 20 year old boat it can be in the best looking shape and a good survey will get below the surface and investigate both the stringers and the transom.

I had the starcraft project boat that was on here, pulled some of the foam from the bow-very heavy. If your 85 has not had any floor work done on it in the past, it is likely that the foam is soaking wet and very heavy.

I don't know where to start on this-took boat out-yesterday-all of a sudden you turn key nothing at controls and no trim either at controls or on engine. Have disconnected things to isolate cables to battery and trim on motor only still nothing. Battery is brand new full charge-I am thinking there is something that got disconnected on engine or an electrical component that has failed because I think by disconnecting from controls I have eliminated any neutral safety switches. Any help troubleshooting would be appreciated. It is a 93 Evinrude 40hp with factory trim and tilt.

in 1972 our rowboat was stolen, I was ten at the time, this happened two days after my 8 year old cousin drowned. Had a business that was struggling three years ago, someone came and stole a bunch of stuff-it was the straw that broke the camels back so to speak-closed the business shortly afterwords-it is something you don't forget.

Boat is still available-lots of tire kickers-very few have actually physically looked at it in person. This boat could be used this year-floors are solid enough-putting it to the top for the weekend.

SOLD 6/21/11 redoing the post as of 6/14 1975 16 Starcraft Holiday aluminum, E/Z loader trailer, 1993 40 HP Evinrude PT/T-$3000.00 or best offer. This boat sat inside unused for two decades. Seats, carpet, floor original. Vinyl on the dash is original including sticker. Has convertible top. Walk through windshield. Has been repairs on the spray rail years ago by a pro-can see both sides of the fix. Common issue to some starcrafts, boat will fail before it does. Has auxilary/kicker mount. New tires on trailer-bearings are fine-have trailered the boat 150 miles this month. Had a 65 Mercury on it that blew due to sitting all those years. 1993 40 Evinrude with power trim on it right now. I will also entertain boat or boat/trailer package sale. Boat has to be sold first before I would sell motor separately. Or if you have your motor 35-85 just pop it on. I have used this boat this spring, it works fine. It is very light so it can be towed by just about anything Boat located in Dunkirk NY. Have too many boats in my driveway right now, need to get back down to two.

Leaks around windshields and cabin hatches become common as boats get older. You pin the issue down by taking a garden hose a spraying the outside of the boat with someone looking on the inside to determine where is is coming from. Depending on the boat, it could be leaking at the windshield and running down to the first opening through the seal around the hatch. Trial and error is the only way I know to troubleshoot it.
