I owned a 22 sylvan for 8 years, I have fished out of the Islander as well and currently own a smaller Starcraft. I would rate the Crestliner and Lund ahead of the Starcraft and Sylvan simply because they are a heavier aluminum boat and that translates into a better ride. There are also some 22 Sea Nymphs and 22 Princecrafts out there as well. If you are looking for a used boat, this is the year to do it. Lots of boats for sale.

With the second latest state budget passed this week and nobody being happy about it, and the fiasco that occurred in the State Senate last year and also another bloated budget, all of our Assembly reps and State Senators are up for election this fall. It is up to us to do our homework and find out who is running to represent us. Not every rep is bad, we just need new faces in office that can listen to us. A bloated medicaid program should have been cut to at least get it in line with our neighboring states and would free up money to get to the programs we are interested in. Fished this tournament this weekend as well. Walleyes starting in 70 feet and out starting straight out of Dunkirk Harbor and west. Mixed in were brown trout, steelhead and we boated a 12 lb laker. Steady action, no where near the level of the late 80's on Lake Erie but it is good to see the mixed bag. Lots of small walleye out there as well, so there holds great promise for the next couple years.

You need to add gear etc as an additional weight and some extra pounds if it is a cuddy or what engine it has in it so I would use 3500 lbs as a working number.

The 470 was Mercruisers response in the mid 70's to the thought that they were not going to have access to automotive engine blocks in the future. It also appeared as the 485. Had the closed cooling to prevent issues from the mix of different alloys when used in salt water. The above post is correct, because it was a Mercruiser design some parts are only available through Mercruiser and as the years go on, parts become less available.

I would take a roller trailer over a bunk trailer any time, wouldn't matter what size the boat is-unless you are launching every day at a decent boat ramp.

The standard transom height for years on most aluminum boats in the 17-19 range has been 20 inches. And there are many Lunds in service across the Great Lakes and some 17's with 150 hp on it. As long as there is some type of splash well, this should not be a problem.

By the late 80's the marine division of Chrysler has a shell of what it was in the 70's, boat line gone, Chrysler outboards sold to Bayliner/US Marine and not really active in the inboard market if at all.

I regularly fish on a 23 Grady Gulfstream(the wide body model) with a covered t-top and a 9.9 Mariner 4 stroke pushes it around Lake Erie with no problem so while a high thrust would be nice, it is not necessary.

A couple days of warm weather, no wind and a flat lake have pushed the lake temp to about 70 as of today and the pack of boats is out front in pursuit of perch. The bass fishing has finally turned on as well. This is Dunkirk that I am posting about.

The only boats that really have outboards in quantity are fishing style boats in aluminum and some in fiberglass under 20 ft. Over the past 15 years the market has moved toward the I/O as the primary source of propulsion. Either option can be problematic but my own experience has been that the I/O option has cost me more money in terms of repair.

Even using someone elses money a single big outboard and a four stroke kicker is the most efficient way to go.

I had a 22 aluminum sylvan which had two strakes on either side of the keel, one only went partially back and would get hung up by the bunks, so if your boat is aluminum check that possibility.
