    Tow vehicle?

Cummins has been in Dodge pick-ups since the late 80's-early 90's-even survived the ownership by Daimler so it is proven in the field.
  2. to answer a question on motor-it takes the 20 inch long shaft-there have been several out there in the $3-4 range of recent vintage. I know where there is a 1995 90 Evinrude for 2500.00 and there have been a few other motors in that price range. Nothing has really changed in 35 years, when a motor appears that you need, you need to make that move. Boat rated for 150hp, a 90-115 would work fine.
  3. Same owner, place was closed from November to a couple weeks ago. I believe they are adding some type of outdoor deck/patio as well.
  4. just got rid of a 17 starcraft that I used a Minn-kota edge bow mount 55 lb thrust which moved the boat easily and saved the expense/weight of the second battery.
  5. 5/1/11 At this point there have only been two to look at the boat. I will do the follow up with the others that have expressed interest. The boat is still for sale and while waiting for the days to pass on the title, I have disassembled the floor work in the bow to allow inside visual inspection of the hull. This allows inspection of the floor material to get a better idea of what you are getting into if you buy it.
  6. No titles are required in NYS for outboards.

    Tow vehicle?

Until we get to the point of new engines across the board(I know Ford has done it this year besides the Ecoboost) you are not going to experience any dramatic increase in fuel economy. So far my own experience driving unload full size pick-ups or SUV's on the highway has been at best 16 mpg. And while towing you may pick up an extra mile or two but it will not offset the new payment book. So you buy or drive what you got in the driveway or the used car lot. As some posters above have said outside of the unproven Ecoboost-we are a couple years away from real improvement.
  8. width is close to 8 ft, not as wide as the new ones which are over 8 ft.
  9. I will keep that information in mind, hopefully things come to a conclusion this week.
  10. On a 17 aluminum you could get by with a 4hp, the perfect target range is 6-8 hp. Had a 2 stroke 4.5 Merc on the 17 I just got rid of, worked fine.
  11. I had the Berts system on my starcraft I just sold, rod holders, rigger mounts etc. I would recommend it.
  12. The second year I owned my inboard/outboard, the mariner owner strongly suggested that I use pink RV anti-freeze and this is in the Buffalo area. Then I got smarter and had him do it every year so I could sleep at night not worrying about what I missed. Then I got real smart and went back to an outboard that can be winterized in 20 minutes.
  13. If you absolutely want the starcraft with the hard top go on Craigslist and go city by city. if you would consider a Crestliner with a hardtop, I know where one of those is-about 30 miles south of Buffalo-guy bought it last year and just upgraded to a Penn Yan. That one is on Craiglist Buffalo-in Perrysburg NY. There is also another 22 Hardtop Crestliner listed on there as well.
  14. Corrected it to the right model. Had Superfisherman on my mind because I have owned two of those in the past.
  15. EDITED 5/22/11 TITLE RECEIVED AND IN HAND AS OF 5/19/11! Please keep in mind I am using the term project boat. It is far from perfect at this point. I purchased this in March with the intention of re-doing it. However another boat came up that I have purchased which is why this is for sale. It sits on a tandem trailer which easily could handle a 22-23 footer with two axle rating of 3800 pounds but probably could handle more. As part of a package, this trailer could be sold and a used single axle could be picked up for less money. I drove this back 100 miles so the bearings are runnable. I blew a tire on the way so it now has four brand new carlilse tires on it. Trailer lights are not working at the moment and will get those going. As for the boat it has a few dents, the vinyl is weathered so that needs attention as does the rest of the carpeting etc. The windshield and dash are in tact, it would need gauges. The floor itself needs to be evaluated as to whether you should replace it or just go over it. It does have a bimini top, frame is good haven't rolled out the canvas. I will say at this point, this floor is usable now. A good scrub down of the interior and you could get this boat functioning now, and worry about doing a major renovation later. For someone who has the time and access to a reasonably priced motor(75 hp minimum), 90-115 preferred, this makes sense as a project. Again the boat is a 1998 and is big, wide, deep. Can be pulled easily by a minivan or small truck or CUV. My Trail Blazer handles it easily. Boat is rated to 150hp The trailer is going to have to be registered as a homemade-simple process. Price-boat only-$1000.00 trailer only-$1000.00(remember four new tires)trailer can;t go right now unless boat goes first Package deal-$1850.00 or best offer. Aluminum has scrap value so I know what the real bottom line is. Being a boater for forty years, I would rather have someone give this more use on the water. Boat is currently in Dunkirk NY. I can take whatever other additional pictures you may need. I have also carefully removed all flooring from the bow area for inspection-can be re-installed or replaced. I have filled this boat with water, there is a spot that drips one drop of water about every 3 or 4 minutes along the center seam again use some Gluvit and it gets fixed. For those who have said they have a trailer-make me an offer on the boat only!
  16. I would contact the NYS Attorney Generals offices-Consumer Affairs division-this is the office that handles this type of situation and forward copies of all communications to them. There used to be the BIA group-Boating Industry Association that handled stuff like this also. I would forward it to Boat US as well. A failure at 100 hours is a catastrophic failure not related to misuse unless they could document that(which I am sure they can't in your case).
  17. The home of Grady White is the Atlantic shore of North Carolina. Grady White is the lake equivalent of a Cadillac and a top quality boat.
  18. 1998 Starcraft 170 Superfisherman with 1998 Mercury 75hp 2-stroke (very fuel efficient) and Starcraft(escort) roller trailer. High Bimini top and full mooring cover. 3 Pedestal seats, depthfinder, VHF radio, berts tracks with berts rod holders. Have 2 pedestal mounts for downriggers for the tracks. Ram-x rod holders. This boat is near perfect showroom condition. Paint shines, carpet and interior like new. Floors solid. A 9.5 out of 10. It has very few scratches that come with a boat of this age. If you are looking for this type of rig, you will not be disappointed so bring a trailer plate and cash with you. Ready to mount riggers and fish now. Reason for sale is the purchase of another boat. Boat is out of storage and is located in Dunkirk, NY Price is $8500.00 or best offer.
  19. back to the Crestliner-new coat of paint and new coat of paint on trailer-not best picture Starting the installation of new oak seating.
  20. I believe that the first temp alarms appeared in the later 1970's so your motor does not have one.
  21. Candidly there are not that many around, I would start looking at boats.com, boattrader.com etc. There is one on Walleye.com now but it is in Minnesota.
  22. I owned a 1990 Sylvan Offshore for seven years. The 23 first came out in 1996 or 1997, it had the deeper V and was 8 1/2 feet wide. They were discontinued in 2002, although in 2003, there were still 3 bare hulls left at the plant. I don't think there are many I/O's around, and very few outboards. It would likely handle like the 22 Starcraft Islander bracket O/B and I know there are some of those around. With the motor out back, there is obviously a lot of room inside.
