15 lb shark w/fishhawk probe above it, tracks nicely. Same minimal blowback as the clean 12 lb sharks I run off the back, shallower-set riggers. Cannon Mag 10 hs handles the weight fine.

Be real slow and deliberate in responding to the wander...quick steering movements in response to the bow movements compound the problem which seems to be inherent in the design of an I/O on a deep V hull. Add on fins such as the one mentioned above have gotten good reviews from owners on sites such as baylinerownersclub.com. Lots of good bayliner/trophy info on there. Worked our @sses off trying everything. Whole bait, cut bait, flashers dodgers, spoons, sticks, you name it. Friday same deal, a couple of small fish for seven hours fishing the Bar area. Called it early Friday p.m. and decided to fish different water for what turned out to be a foggy Sat. morning. Fished east past the plant looking for a change of pace. Had a good screen but clear water and no bites. Tried the shoreline brown trout bite in the p.m. in and around the Olcott mouth. Nada except for one little atlantic (released). Then it started to rain and we packed up early. Not very satisfying. At least the shakedown trip was successful. New electric riggers and Cisco planer board reels worked well and the new tow vehicle made my life easy. ====================

Gents, Ohio based copper newbie setting up three 45lb copper rods for this season. I'll be running 'em off big boards. I have a 350' (Convector 55) and a 100' (Magda 45) spooled up already. What length would be most useful for the final rod (also a Convector 55)? 200? 250? 450? I fish the Bar in the spring and inshore/blue zone off Olcott in the summer. Prod your govenor/senator to endorse the three rod per angler regulation and switch it up or fish it all! Dang I hope it becomes reality this season. Ohio is considering it on Erie. Can't help you much for inland/inshore fishing. Run a bit of everything for kings until a pattern develops.

Gents, Picked up an Okuma CV 55 ss bidding online but DUH forgot the check to see if it had a levelwind. It doesn't. It has an open spool. I'm rigging up a couple of copper rods for this season so copper newbie here. Have any of you used the open spool non-levelwind reels for copper? Opinions? I was thinking about 450' copper and 300 yds. power pro on the CV 55 ss. Should I re-sell it? Use it? Thanks in advance for any advice. Jarrett

Dang Wayne that is one big @ss sailfish. Pacific? You guys in the keys are killing me. Lived in Key Largo Oct.-Dec. of 2002 and miss kingers on the fly...just troll till ya find 'em past the reef in 120 fow+, chuck out a 450g sink and wait for a kinger to find the fly. ZZZZZZxzzzzzzzxzzzzzzz! Imagine if we could get Lake O Kings to take flies like that? Wow. Off river mouths in Spring maybe? As for 2010...here's me and one of my best friends with a King/Coho double header off Olcott last August. A few minutes later my buddy's wife's friend's fiance hooked his first salmon. It ran him 250 yds into the power pro and hit a dead stop loop on the spool. We babied that fish on the end of its leash...all it had to do was flick a fin...but the wacky dude landed the big fish of the trip 25 lbs. Figures.

Gents, I have to bring power to four Cannon riggers and two Cisco Planer Board Reels. Existing fuse panel at helm is full. Dual battery w/Perko switch next to the batteries. 1988 Bayliner Trophy 2160 Hardtop. Got a quote from a pro who wanted to install a second breaker box at the helm and run lots of wire from the riggers and reels for lots of money. No can do. I'm considering an enclosed fuse box like a Blue Sea Systems grounded model mounted next to the battery switch, on the side of the engine compartment and well above any bilge water. Then I'd connect the riggers/reels w/10 ga and 30 amp fuses. Id get a fuse box with some extra slots for future expansion. Is this feasible? Do you have any recommendations? Also, I need to mount/install switches to control the planer board reels. Cisco offers a system for about $100 per switch. Any alternantives out there? Thanks for any input. Mates can't @#$^@# about cranking 15lb balls or hard pullin' boards anymore. Jarrett

Hi guys. I've doing some wiring on my old Mag 10A and I was going to replace the warped spool at the same time. I've got the replacement spool in hand. What a pain in the @ss project. I had the shaft assembly taken apart, i.e. removed motor & worm gear, removed the top clutch plate and removed knob tensioner and washers BUT the last clutch plate looked solid or stuck. Is there any trick I'm missing on this? How do I get the damn spool off the shaft? Thanks for any help. Jarrett

I'm rigging some copper rods for the first time this coming season and reading up on the technique. Sure seems to work well with lots of dedicated proponents. I read a piece about copper lines being electrically charged and how shorter leaders might take advantage of this property. I have no experience with copper so I thought I'd ask the pros. Any measurable charge to the line while trolling? Anyone using 10-15 fot leaders versus leadcore style 50 foot leaders to get lures closer to the attractive line? How does one measure the charge of the copper while trolling anyway? Thanks to any piscatorial scientists at liberty to reply. Jarrett

I need to retrofit two old mag 10's with new power cords using the newer style cannon power port set up. I'm looking for two sets, including battery wiring/plug and motor wiring/plug. I have the power ports. New ones are $pendy...anyone got a couple extras I could purchase? Jarrett

IMO, the answer is yes. I find that the four blade gives better control in the slop. There's more power available and responsiveness to adjust to the the angle/size of the waves. I feather the throttle alot in those conditions to smooth the ride out and the four blade makes this easier. 15x 15 Powertech stainless on a GM 305/Cobra 22' '88 Trophy hardtop. Heavy rig for its size. Had a 15 x 17 three blade aluminum to start with. Nice for flat out running. Not so nice in the slop and around the dock.

Damn. I gotta get there before I die. Jaw dropping fish.
