  1. I have an x-4 mated to the old 840 head. Down speed and down temp transmits fine. Surface speed not working but that's a separate issue and of no import to me. New head looks great though, I will upgrade eventually and waste $ just to have big numbers and sleek looks.
  2. Wow guys good eye that does look like a funny kinger. I've heard the stories but never saw a good example of the hybrid. I saw the pic and didn't think twice until I read this post and looked close.
  3. 225 miles trailering heavy rig = 4 hours each way, docked in Cleveland area. I would drive much further without hesitation to get on some of the best Salmon fishing in the world.
  4. Clean lures with toothpaste, use herring paste when fish are negative or fresh frozen alewife to sweeten the deal. Negative kings perk up to oily scent. Active kings are turned off by bad scent.
  5. That's the ticket, with some sushi.
  6. Streakers drive me crazy too. Neutral drops work occasionally, as does a junk line off the transom with a change up lure. Capt. Dan Keating's book has some good techniques to maximize strikes from negative fish coming into the spread. The underwater rigger cameras show how many fish are lookers and not takers. I also like some sushi on my flies to seal the deal.
  7. You will enjoy dumping the points, especially if you boat sits for any amount of time. Way less maintenance over the long term.
  8. I run a t valve right off the main tank, no problems no switches to mess with.
  9. Hydraulic w/ez steer in my opinion, if you have an I/O drive. Or just try it w/o power assist like I do. No problem, makes newbie over-compensation mor difficult too. Older sport pilots make decent anchors, so go bungee or go high-end. The out drive becomes a rudder and brake wit the kicker. Send kimosabe to the standard helm with wheel, water as necessary. Catch fish, repeat, protect the keel. Jarrett .
  10. Damn I wished I lived closer and could enter all these tournaments. Have fun, fish meat.
  11. Hello fellow salmon addicts. For sale two Magnum Dipsies, clear holographic with rings, used once or twice. I decided I prefer the smaller sizes. Twenty bucks shipped usps flat rate box to your address. PayPal preferred, but not necessary.
  12. I caught a bull shark when reading self-proclaimed "pros" bickering in this thread. Grow up and shut up.
  13. If I could only keep the competition from running over my spread...
  14. You will like the sharks, they track nice. I have good luck with the chromes, especially higher in the water column. 12lb. for shallow work, 15 lb. when going deep. I run black and purple or blue chrome. These fickle fish think any trolled hunk of lead looks interesting or scary depending on random conditions or feeding behavior. That said I do see more fish come into my spread when I run sharks with a full complement of flashers. Sometimes they even bite.
  15. Looks great, nice job! I did the same project years ago to a Starcraft...miss that boat now. You have an all season fishing machine.
  16. John's post should be a sticky: "explaining current and trolling speeds". Well done.
  17. 90-120 fow is not a far run due north of Wilson. Very possible with calm conditions for your size boat. Hit it early and fish deep with flasher and flies on longish leaders. There will be some kings feeding and staging in that area unless there is a long stretch of onshore wind piling warm water inshore.
  18. Guys this tax has been around since 1950 under the "Sport Fish Restoration Act". It has been amended a few times but not recently in connection with "Obamacare". Here's a link: http://wsfrprograms.fws.gov/Subpages/GrantPrograms/SFR/SFR_Act.htm It's purpose is to help fisheries, Dingell (the Bill's author) is a noted conservation minded Senator long before the word conservation meant anything to anyone. No need for sensational Obamacare reaction. Tight lines and may the NSA be with you!
