I have the 1988 21' hardtop. 3,350 or so. I have alot of info on early model bayliner trophies, shoot me a pm if you have questions. Jarrett
  2. I use rigger probe for actual speed. SOG only seems helpful if you can compare the paddle wheel speed and extropolate current speed. A probe eliminates this mental work which exceeds my math skills. And down temp to boot.
  3. I love braid to feel perch hits. I use much heavier braid and light mono leaders for cushion off spreaders. I figure if perch are dumb enough to eat off spreaders light main line doesn't matter.
  4. I have a single LED spreader light designed for off road use mounted under the hardtop and illuminating the transom/ fishing area. It is nice to be able to leave the spreader light on at the dock, rigging in the dark, etc. without even worrying about draining batteries. The LED also charges glow lures very nicely. I'd go with LED. Jarrett
  5. Thanks for your Lou purchase. Tight lines! Jarrett [ Post made via iPhone ]
  6. Your lower unit gear ratio may also be different, creating a larger total gear ratio difference which may need compensation through increasing the prop pitch. I just went from 5.0 to 5.7 motor w/the 5.0 omc cobra. Best advice from bayliner gurus was that the difference was minimal and the WOT range was the most important issue. Run it, find your WOT rpm speed and then compensate if necessary with the goal being to achieve the higher end of the recommended WOT based upon the ratio difference and to avoid bogging the engine. Check out baylinerownersclub.com, you must be signed up to get in the "technical" forum. Wealth of info and I just started a thread on this topic.
  7. No auto stop. Auto up, hold toggle or disengage clutch for descent. If you forget to stop the ascent the breaker trips, breaker resets as designed. Nice boat tripledeuce, these riggers came off a trophy 2160 just like yours.
  8. Gents, I have a pile of cannon equipment to sell. Pics coming soon, if interested shoot me a pm. Shipping is extra per buyer's specifications. Two (2) metal frame old school Mag 10 riggers w/four foot single-piece booms. The wiring harnesses were upgraded to the new style harnesses last year (flush mount yellow plugs). 9. Pro Kings have a unique action, catch a bunch with 'em. Moonshines are hard to beat for bottom buggers. [ Post made via iPhone ]
  10. I purchased a sweet kicker package over the winter but it will not work for my application without spending a god awful amount of $ to re-design the transom of my boat. Looking for a used remote operated xl shaft two stroke 9.9 instead so I can run off the swim platform mount without major surgery. Motor is in perfect condition. Lightly used by original owner for one season. 25" Shaft. Power tilt, electric start. Also has pull start if needed. Trollmaster II throttle control installed and control head/wiring included. Mercury flush mount pro remote control and 16' cables included. It has a factory warranty until 02/2014 and factory gold product protection until 02/2016. The warranty/product protection was properly transferred to my name. Mercury will charge you $50 bucks to transfer it to your name. High thrust gearing and prop. Winterized by Merc. dealer w/documentation. Wish it could work for my ride but no dice. $2,850 for the package. Located in University Heights, Ohio. PM me with your number or email and I'll contact you. Jarrett
  11. Looking for someone who has too many or who doesn't like their chrome sharks...I'll take 'em.
  12. Check out the designs of the composite boards (azak?) sold by Amish outfitters and aurora lights. I have the amish outfitters composite boards and they track and pull like champs, even in rough h2o and towing three junk lines per side. [ Post made via iPhone ]
  13. Just purchased a used kicker set up...will post pictures after installation. Here's the plan: Kicker: Mercury 9.9 pro kicker 25", power tilt, elec., remote. Remote operation from the helm with troll master hooked up. Gonna take the independent power switch advice for the troll master...that's good info. Location: off the factory swim platform mount on my bayliner trophy, moving mount from port to starboard for weight distribution purposes and shorter/direct remote cable run to helm. Steering: hooked up to the Cobra outdrive w/ ez-steer. Main has piece of crap Raymarine sport pilot auto pilot...perhaps it will work better without power assited steering on (main motor off)...it is a drunken sailor at best, always over-correcting and unable to handle a change in weight distribution. Fuel: drawn off the second outlet on the water separator. Power output: 6 amp...not sure how this ties in to the battery bank (2 way battery switch) Finally some consistent speed control, the ability to run slow walleye speeds, the ability to use the kicker for late season walleye trolling around cleveland harbor when the main is winterized and less gas burn/hours on the main. Happy!
  14. Ray I've seen a pic of your sweet kicker set-up in past posts...I'm going to a similar set-up off a swim platform mount. What length shaft do you run?
  15. Looking to add a Lowrance LRA series radar to link to an older Lowrance 510c sounder. pm please.
  16. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: REEL POWER ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Time on Water: late on the 11th, all day 12th and 13th Weather/Temp: Blown off most of Thursday afternoon, light easterlies Friday, light variables Friday Waves: 2-4 Thursday evening, light to moderate chop Thurs.-Fri. Surface Temp: 74-77 Location: West of Wilson, inshore and offshore LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 25 ish Total Boated: 18 ish Species Breakdown: Mostly Kings, a few small steelies and a nice domestic rainbow Hot Lure: Pro King green/sliver/ladderback glow, Blue/Chrome NBK Spinnie w/blue sushi Fly, Green glow NBK Stingray Trolling Speed: 2.1-2.5 was best Down Speed: Same Boat Depth: Best action 295-370, inshore bite wouldn't fire for us. Lure Depth: 90-110 was best with a few shots in the 50-75 range. ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== First time in Wilson, nice amenities at the Wilson Boatyard. Thursday afternoon was a rough start with weather and mechanical issues. Thanks to Jim at the Boat Doctor in Olcott with a temporary repair and correct diagnosis. Don't go anywhere else. Was able to get out in the p.m. for about three hours, inshore 70-120 fow. Excellent screen, no bites. Ran offshore Fri. morning. Found that the temp was down deep. Had 62 degrees 65 feet down over 280. Targeted kings down 75-110. Slow start and a few missed opportunities developed into a rigger bite. A new friend who never landed a king before took a 39" x 24" hen that was pushing thirty pounds. Pro King green/glow ladderback down 95. Hit a couple low teens and a few one year olds. 300 copper/spoon put out a ten pound domestic rainbow. Awesome colors like an AK bow, never seen one before in Lake O. Spinnies started to fire in the p.m., mostly little steelies but a couple small kings in the mix. Tried the inshore again Sat. morning. Wilson first, nada, then off the Bar, nada. Trolled north, easterlies pushed the green water to Canada. Ripped an icebreaker 25lb male out of the blue in 328 fow. Great fight with a good angler. Proceeded a slow pic throughout the day. A couple more on riggers, one and two year olds. Some dinks, then a nice low teens on the chrome blue NBK spinny and sushi fly. 330-280 fow was productive. Slipped back inshore at the end of the day on the troll home. Nada. Sunday got scratched due to the return of my thermostat Gremlin. Burned another impeller and packed it up. Lake looked nice. All in all tough but productive fishing, workin' hard for the bites and changing things up to find a decent pattern. Head the charter boys were doing good near Wilson 100- 200 fow. Just couldn't get that bite going.
  17. MikeyP I checked the gov's online press releases yesterday. He signed/vetoed bills on the 4th, the day before delivery of the three rod bill. So "our" bill was not vetoed. Jarrett [ Post made via iPhone ]

  20. Just reserved a slip for Aug. 11-14. First time in Wilson. Can't wait. Where can a guy get a license and some new spinnys? I may have an open seat or two on Thurs. afternoon and Friday if anyone is interested. This depends on my Cleveland buddies' schedules. 21' Trophy hardtop decked out for trolling, experienced captain. Thanks in advance. Jarrett
  21. I assume you meant 8 weight fly rod, not drift rod. Buy a sinking shooting head line, preferably a Teeny 400 grain. Make sure that you have plenty of good backing on the reel. You can then tie on a looooooong leader to a small size j plug in silver/chartreuse, preferrably jointed. Let out all the flyline and 40 foot of backing or so. Then securely attach the rod to the boat somehow. Next, proceed as slowly as conditions will allow. Bring a long handled net. You will have difficulty trolling at the right speed (2-3 m.p.h.) with the sailboat. The j plug is very speed forgiving, up to 4 1/2 mph or so. Other lures might not do well, but heavy bodied spoons would also be an option. The 400 grain sinking shooting head will get you down about 20 foot or so. At least you would have a chance to run into some steelies, coho or aggressive high riding kings. You could even fish a fly off the sinking head if you wanted to, but a j plug will be more effective. A better option is to ditch the flyrod and buy a stout trolling rod and reel. Fish a diver like a pink lady or jet diver (wil get down about 40 foot) and a heavy spoon or j plug about 5 feet behind it. Try to rig so that your sails are barely taking wind, thus keeping the troll as slow as possible. Good luck. I've trolled off a sailboat. It sucks. I know some MI sailers who caught plenty of salmon off the blowboats while crossing the lake during the glory days of MI salmon fishing. They fished pink lady divers with spoons at 5-7 m.p.h.
  22. GM 305 v-8 pushing heavy 3,700 lb 1988 21' trophy loaded with 1,400 lbs gear, ice and people burns 15-20 gallons trolling 10 continuous hours. This estimate does not include time/fuel spent running. A typical full day of heavy load travel and trolling is 25-35 gallons, depending on the amount of time spent running. A 15x15 four blade stainless prop helps out a v-8 pulling big loads and manuevering slowly while trolling. Much more control at slow speeds and a nice hole-shot and lower planing speed.
