  1. Can't beat Jim at Boat Doctors....he's helped me with several emergency repairs and did not gouge me on the price.
  2. Same recommendation as Voodoo and Tim B, 500lb spectra braid from Amish Outfiters, season three it is tough as nails and slick. Snubber is a good idea if your boards are quality. Check out the Azak boards from A.O. While you are at it.
  3. Hi guys, nice to be reading the reports from my hospital bed after emergency open aortic artery surgery. Beat some serious odds that came out of left field, 39 yo. The kind of heart surgery where they are surprised you are alive to have surgery, open ya up, chill ya, kill ya, fix ya and bring you back, hopefully in the same state of mind as when you went under. So take it from me the worst day on the water or at home is always better than being dead! Carpe diem and save a some July Kings for me off off Wilson. Jarrett
  4. I like Weldon's and offshore and recommend using small cheap carabiners to attach releases to planer line...convenient and the heft of the carabiner helps the release down the line.
  5. I have the same layout on an 8' beam. Heavier fish on the gunnel riggers seems to help as I run those deep, shallower off the corners may stack one, not both. Biggest detail is deployment, deepest first, always. If you have flashers out there pull two riggers and reset deep first to make sure not tangle on the deployment. Gives you a good reason to check things out anyway. Swivel mounts are VERY helpful, as are strong mates with the manual riggers.
  6. Jim at The Boat Doctor in Olcott has been very helpful to this out-of-stater for emergency repairs at very reasonable prices. Thanks Jim!
  7. Watch out for io gear ratio issues if you go to a 5.7L. [ Post made via iPhone ]
  8. Sewage pollution and fertilizer run off, invasives, lack of young anglers coming into the sport / lack of designated tax and fee revenue to justify the states' s Salmon and trout stocking expenditures.
  9. As to your wire question, try small diameter copper fly tying wire ( used to rib fly bodies) or maybe small elec wire with insulation stripped. Whichever thin copper is the way to go. Salt can firm up bait if bait was not as fresh as you prefer when it was frozen and thaws juicy and loose. I run fresh frozen whole bait or salted fresh frozen filets for sushi fly strips (most often) using copper wire to lash it after sliding it onto hook point of a custom tied rig. When I used to wrap herring strips on flatfish for AK kings we would apply/soak the salted strips in herring oil (thick), seemed to be effective have not tried it here. Also clean your used meat gear of old scent/crusties. AK Kings would turn off on the old scents. Toothpaste works well with a brush. Had a head guide beat this into me, he was right.
  10. Check out Michigan motorz for good deals on the powerplant. [ Post made via iPhone ]
  11. Niagara river fisherman would be a good source for data on this question. 50% of kings off Wilson were naturals for my July trip. [ Post made via iPhone ]
  12. I rest my case. Stupid freaking Browns exist to make afc team's cities feel good about themselves. Sorry about your running back, looked like a separated shoulder.
  13. hey it could be worse...you could live in Cleveland.
  14. Deep king success? See: http://archives.in-fisherman.com/conten ... rier-kings
  15. Ok so I am amazed...ran my riggers for steelies and bycatch walleye on Erie, central basin. There was a ton of small white bass crashing the spread. Unknowingly dragging them around is a problem at times with any gear. I was able to adjust the blacks to a sweet spot where an 8 oz fish would trip the release (full tight cranked down rods) and be solidly hooked up. Wow. I've been happy with 'em for getting nice tight hook sets for kings, this was my first serious attempt using them for small game. Hooked an eight pound eye just fine too (steelies did not come out to play). Fished a lot of different releases, never had one that could perfectly adjust for minnows or sharks.
  16. I love Wilson, nice amenities and you can run to the bar, olcott or fish out front. Call the Wilson boatyard marina for a slip, put in at the state park. Matures will be all over all three ports. Loc results showed a few good kings from Wilson the last couple days.
  17. Very nice DIY adventure and report, Ohioans pump some $ into the Olcott area for salmon fixes...I'm in Cleveland in need of a big run from an angry kinger! What lures/speed worked for you? I need a king run so bad I'm gonna target Erie steelies offshore this weekend...maybe I'll get lucky.
  18. I'll second the great service, one minor issue I had was resolved ASAP no charge.
  19. 40' lead with a reef runner 800 replace stock treble hooks. [ Post made via iPhone ]
  20. Stripers would be much more fun in Lake Erie! They would get huge.
