  1. I don't think I said it will destroy the fishery. I belive it will survive one way or another & has thru a lot of adversity. To me it's why I prefer to use a fly rod over a float rod with bait. Or maybe the new trend with some bow hunters to go back to traditonal bows. The deer will still be just as dead with an asault rifle , but should we use it instead of a hunting rifle. We Gentleman & sportsman police ourselves . More fish landed means more dead. The percentages prove that.We have a good thing going. The fishery is getting back to the good old days, lets try to keep it that way. After all I have said on this subject you either get that or you don't . It's fishing, not catching. If Mich jumps off a bridge, should we?
  2. I read the reports of a lot of guys on this site&others & it seems to me most have a pretty high catch rate , so whats the problem? I guess my unfounded " Ramblings " are pretty baseless . I should think the policies of the B of F that gives you the fisheriy that we are so fond of & has weathered the storm of the invasive expolsion , VHS plauge , & baitfish problems would merit a little consideration also. A team that is most likly pretty well educated on the participants of the everchanging ecosystem of LO and it's past & forcasted future.I would think its a pretty tough job of keeping everyone happy, I could care less about the head of it or why he got his job. . Why would the B of F not be in favor of it? If it were for strictly economic or political reasons I figure it would already be passed. Maybe the new guys haven't drank the koolaid yet. It's fishin, not catchin.I thank God for blessing me with having this great fishry pretty much in my back yard.
  3. Do not blame the polititians on this one gents. It is in their best intrest to pass this . It will be like throwing you a bone for all the bonehead things that they have been or been not doing. To distract you from what is really going on . It is in the best intresest of the economy of the state to also pass this . Think about it . For a three man crew you would need 3 extra rods, probably specialty, such as copper, wire dipsys or lead core, more lures, Extra rodholders . At 200 average by 3 thats 600 bucks x 8%tax rev & dealer income tax to the state. Nice haul. Factor in all the extra tangles & breakoffs for even more. My guess is that the average guy will catch the same or even less & the experinced will catch a few more. On another point the catch rate is the highest it's been so whats the problem? The letter I recieved back from beurea of fisheries says they are NOT in fovor of it but I guess a politition knows better. . Does that paper in the bookbag have some truth? We have a good thing going so lets be happy with it & not get greedy. Some days you get em some you don't . That's fishin.
  4. Get a few of the right rods , a few of the popular spoons( I like NK 28 & Mags ) w/ ball bearing swivles , maybe a few sticks baits . Put one rod each on your riggers back 20-50 ' one 10' off bottom one half way down & troll ,speed is important. Watch depth finder. Run a flatline or two if you wantback 125-250' ( j 11 raps ) but most will come off riggers. . Most importantly, don't get discouraged& KEEP IT SIMPLE at first. More is always not better. Make what you have work. I llke to troll a little faster than most and do a lot of zig zagging to give lure action, slow s-turns. Good luck& be safe.
  5. I thought it to be a good idea to have the last place fish after the top weight so we would know if we were in contention or not on the water. Would save a lot of guess work & fish released.
  6. A lot of things play into the "speed" factor. There are different currents in the water column. Unless you have down speed you can't know precisely except by a guess or cable sway. Also cross currents that can affect your presentation. Ray is correct about the 3 s's. More important than color or lure choice by far. I only have surface speed & GPS for SOG ( speed over ground) , I use the 2 to correct myself best I can . Direction of troll is important also.I troll a lot of NK's because they are forgiving . I have had sucess from 1,6- 3.5 on my surface speed ,but that may not be the speed it is moving at the ball.
  7. Anyone atend the auction of Gary & Lucy yesterday? A lot of Musky & other lures went for an awfull lot of Money. WOW!
  8. Or just throw the docks in , walk away ,and let the fine people of this Great ( at least for now) country use it for free. Let the Sheriffs drive thru a few times a day and be done with it. How much would that cost? These guys are morons. They will still have do low level maint on it some way and keep some kind of insurance on it . WTF!
  9. A guide down in FLA told me that. Because of heavy tippet , it helps. I also snap my rod tip to give darting action . When I get lazy and tie a clinch knot I notice & can feel the dif & get less hits.
  10. I allways take a spining rod with me whan I fish the bar. I use exactly what I use in Florida for inshore fishing. A 3/8 -3/4 oz. white bucktail w/ crystal flash on a med heavy action rod w/ 20 lb power pro and 20 lb test floro leader. Make sure you tie jig on w/ a rapala knot so it swings freely, I think it makes a dif. Did well on it at times. No prob's staying down. Like drift fishing for smallies.
  11. I heard that the water table is dropping a lot in western NY. Is this true?
  12. On Calm days when the fish are in the top 40 ft I like to run deep divers off my boards a long way out. I like spoonbill rebels or thundersticks. I have A BLK SIL w/ red belly I have caught some nice kings & Steelheads on . I figure it gets down 20' or so.
  13. Sorry , if you are in good health , And you can't or are to lazy to turn the reel handle to retrive the rig or play the fish, don't use copper IMO.
  14. I have had 5 chevy HD 3/4 ton work vans & beat the crap out of them for 25 years & they just keep taking it.
  15. We all get those minor glitches on some trips. Maybe you got yours out early. At least you hooked up. What we woun't do to catch a fish. I was going to try to get by without a spare(lost mine) but after reading this I know what I'm doing today.
  16. How about a van? I have van for work (HD 3/4 ton) which I tow my big boat with , And a Decked out Safari W/ a tow package which I tow my small boat & go camping with. Having everthing inside is a great feature. Also nice if it's raining you can sleep in it. Great for long trips. The extra room is nice to have , extremly comfortable. You can get with 2 bench seats. A one ton, which would haul your 25 ft easy, also rides suprizingly smooth. I wouldn't get a pickup ever , no advantage to me. Simmons Rockwell has lease buybacks that have very low miles for a good deal.
  17. Wal mart has Wire that I like to use . The 8 " 18 lb are good for me .but for bigger they have 8" 27 lb Or 36 lb . They have Ball bearing also. Have had real good luck with these.
  18. All action came in last hour after we found them . Did not go less than five min without a fish on . With two on board there was a lot of action so I would say more rods would have ment maybe less with more tangles in the shallow water,at least for us.

  20. I have all the right tools, tester, volt meter, crimps etc. I worked on it all day, checked & rechecked. Called Tech support 4 times. Checked ground , volts , etc. Even they were stumped. The last guy told me to wire it no more than 12 " from the truck tail lights. Said it needed to feel resistance for it to work properly. Did it & it works crazy as it sounds. They failed to mention that in the instructions. Thanks guys for taking time out of your day to offer help. Hope to do a shakedown within the next few days.
  21. I have a 2002 GMC I bought used. I am trying to wire the harness for boat. Boat has 4 wire . Truck has no factory harness. It had A 5 wire to 4 conversion that was not working properlythat was on it. . Got a new one hooked it up , Get everything but break lights. Ground is good. Breaks into box, nothing out. Whats Up?
  22. Yoda ,I use to think just like you , till I found out the truth about them. Take the time to find out ( a lot on here about them) and them make a decicion. A lot of scoundrels are using this " GREEN " initiative to fill there pockets with green on the trust & good intentions of the American people. Don't be fooled.
