  1. When these things first showed up ,We did not know what they even were or how to eliminate the problem. Fished two days And delt with it. Noticed that the rod with 12 lb got way more than the one with 20 . So I went home & Spliced in the 40 lb i used for my squid leaders & no fleas. Fished 3 days in a row no probs. Remember seeing Buc a roo & a few others slapping their rods on the water. Heard them on the radio crying about it so I went on & told them I found a way out, they blew me off. Next morning at the launch subject came up & told a charter mate about what I did & he procceded to tell me how it would not work. Got on another trolling site & got about as much crap as I got for the three rod deal. Now it is a common solution to the flea problem a lot of anglers lakewide use . And I was the first to do it many years ago. I think hotter the summer , the worse the fleas IMO. Wait till August.
  2. What are the comparative line diameters?I think thats the diff.
  3. My 21 ' has bunks & am very happy with it. Wanted rollers ,willing to pay extra but was told by a few bunks are better for the boat . Have never had a problem on or off.Boat does sit lower on trailer.
  4. Or , There are bigger fish to fry !!
  5. Hey you you have to get those nasty fleas out of the lake somehow. What better way than to run more rods? But you know, our hard working representitves of the people do need a well deseved vacation.Only a matter of time the way I see it.
  6. Micky Finn I Did the EXACTLY and I mean EXACTLY the samething you did ,down to the holes in the bottom. Got the pipe in Roch At some wire joint off 490 by Monroe (can see from expressway). Cut angles w/ my power mitre box . was about 60 bucks tops & works great.
  7. Have heard one of the ingredients is very similar to what a salmonoid uses to find his birth stream .
  8. When fleas were real bad I spliced a 150' section on my reels of 40 lb cheap mono( Mason) then 25' 20 lb leader . had large diameter which is good for fleas. 300 yd spool for 3.99,enougn for 4 rods, problem solved.
  9. Had a bad exterior door on my house 1 year old. . Went to the lumberyard ( a friend of mine) & told him. Rep came out & said that there was nothing that they could do. Told my supplier that I was going to by a new door from him , take the old one out & bring it to the manufaturure in Rochester & throw it thru his showroom window. Had a new door in a week.
  10. Yeah, but there vote still counts, and to the polititions , that's what counts. Nov's closer every day.
  11. Arrived Fri Morn .All total got about 12 bass, 19" biggest. Got about 15 Northerns biggest about 8 lbs .Went out Sun morn daybreak to see the Bald Eagle in a treetop. Started fishing and at the end of the morn trip I hooked somthing big. Was a Pike that was as long as my Livewell , I figure about 42-44" long with shoulders. Got that & the bass on a gander3" trick stick 1/ 16 oz jig head 6 lb . Also gold Blk tail 5 mepps , Blk gold spinnerbait, Smithwick twitched( I love that) Went to top of Whiteface . Went to ADK LOJ & hiked to Marcy Dam.Great trip can't wait to get back. No cell phones or TV. No politcs, internet or wannabees. On Fri eve as my boy & I were drifting over the weeds just before dusk, you couldn't have slapped the smile off my face. Back in mid Aug.
  12. Saw a3/4 " 4x8 sheet of Azek on the job. 100 % PVC. wonder if that would work. Got to be somthing better than wood. All kinds of composite decking out there , some 100% PVC. Water on wood no good Marine ply or not.Sounds like floors only last about 15 years or so by past posts when exposed . Got to be a better way.

Camped at Shady shores at fair haven last week. Camp owner said some guys were dropshoting baits that look like gobys & were doing pretty well but we stayed in the bay .
  14. Depends where you are fishing. Deep ,a 1oz R/w daredevel or buctail jigs. Shallower around weeds, Mepps 5 or spinnerbait. LO creekmouths I have a 3/8 dbl bld colorodo cht spinnerbait I got aprox 30 pike on the last few years.
  15. After thinking about the release report ratio I made this asumption. You say 90 % of reported fish were kept. If the tag is very visable I can understand why. If I were bringing a fish to the boat & I was planing on an in the water release& I saw the tag , I would most likly net the fish , bring it on board & investigate . In that time I would say the fish may expire , thus they are kept. I would say most guys who fish a lot release most or all fish except for mortaly wounded fish . Charters & Out of state guys who only fish a little keep a few more. What is the release rate of stream caught fish? Also I find that you changing hook ,treble to single & size will change action a lot. How do you handle that?
  16. I have a 16 alum bass boat . It had soft spot in the floor so I ripped up tthe carpet & used a piece of Press Treated ply 3/4"left over from a job and put the carpet back down . Cheap & it worked. Water on wood no good.
  17. Hey Gambler, who was the first guy on the lake to splice in the 150 of 30-40 lb monomant years ago when the fleas first showed up . Do you remember?
  18. Large or Smallmouths? on what & how. Details man , Details. Going up fri morn at 3 am . Cannot wait. It is my happyplace. Sounds like you are hooked.Did you go thru the museum / great place. Not yet.maybe when I get back.
  19. You reading this about your boy, Kremer? Whine? Just stating fact. I could give a rats A-- what you say Spoony. Your true colors shine thru again!!! Feeling guilty? Still working on that gizmo you want. FLO a tip I forgot to tell you. Take a good set of long nose 6" or longer & tie a lanyard around for your wrist. Also put some sunglass froggers so you don't donate to the lake monster .Took me a few pairs of each to learn my lesson. Good luck and sorry for the "BS" .
  20. Yes they do hit on the drop a lot. I like to put a 3 " white curly tail on the end to help with that. Was told by a guy who fishes up there a lot to reel as slowlly as you can on the bottom, which worked also. 10- 25' deep ther. good luck let us know. Haven' been there in about 10 years.
  21. Kremer, Nice guy ? I ain't seeing it ,sorry. He & I don't share the same philosophy on fishing so he insults me when I point things out he does not like . Got thick skin I can take it. I care about the fishery & where it is going. 1978 description & how it is now should show you that. Nice to hear my experiences are a pile of dung, but after all that has been said I consider the source. It's not the first time.I try not to be insutling , he tries, shows his character IMO. . A lot of the questions asked by me I already know the answer to . Just seeing what the response will be. After the 4th I hope to be back on the Lake to fish some of the local derbys. Looks like the lake has transitoned well , a little earlier than normal.the less East wind the better. I'll do my best to release the fish as unharmed as possible, but catch as many as I can with my limited skills. To the guy with the original question, use your best judgement.Keep them in the water with no net IMO.Don't drag them around a long time . Pull lines if you can & slow the boat down to shorten the fight. If they look done for keep them . Good luck. Blue & Green label for me
  22. Ah 1978 . 17 wood boat ,2 manual riggers ,Flasher & a new paper graph. 7 ' Glass spining rods & reels. Flatlining Cleos & Rapalas in spring. Suttons, Reekers, & the long awaited Evil eye summers. J plugs on the pierheads in fall. No speed , No temp, No line counter reels.Lost a ton of stuff but managed to still catch fish. Imagine that. You remember those days Spoony? After many years learned the seasonal patterns & what to do & when, which hasn't changed a whole lot. Look at the equip & electrnics availlable today that has. . Don't be caught without them. I'm proud to say I was there. Spoony I know you . Your the Bully on the block. Anyone who says somthing you don't like or is a distraction you insult & belitle so the others get in line . Won't work with me. I ask questions , you don't like that, You insult me . Surely you are smart enough to figure that out. I pointed out things you fail to mention .I was mad at first but I feel sorry for you actually . Be patient , the gizmo is coming & maybe more rods also but it won't make a difference. What did Therau say? Whenever I hook a good fish I like to slow down & clear lines if I can. Enjoy the fight without the boat drag. Get them in quicker & get the hooks out & get them back. Leave them in the water for less stress. And yes , Some are not going to make it. Question again, do all dead fish float?
