  1. I just wrap the fly around the flasher and use a dream weaver flasher file. The files come in 8" and 10". They're a little over priced but its the most organized way I could come up with on storage. [ Post made via Android ]
  2. Definitely plan on changing reels as soon as I can. I can't see using 40 or 50 lb test on the leader. I've caught 200 lb Ahi on 50 lb. Just seems extreme for 20-30 lb fish. I like the idea of switching from fluoro to mono. It could very well be the drag on the magda reels. [ Post made via Android ]
  3. Full set up: 10' okuma GLT dipsey rod with twill tip. Okuma Magda 30 reel. (Will be switching to convectors soon) 30 lb 7 stand wire, spro 60lb swivel, dipsy, 10' of 30 lb fluoro leader to my paddle and fly. Like I said, I'm setting my drag just tight enough that the dipsey isn't continuously pulling line off the reel. If i go over say like a 2' wave the drag will let line out. I really can't set it any looser. I lost 4 rigs the other day from the dipsy leader snapping. Also lost an entire rig, dipsey and all. I felt like i was tossing $20 bills into the lake all day. 4. This is the first year for me with wire. I keep the drag set loose enough that if I hit a wave the diver will pull some line. I have lost a bunch of rigs since using wire and fish! I didn't think that guys really used snubbers but I can't afford to keep losing tackle. Any answers?? Snubbers or not? [ Post made via Android ]
  5. Wow, this is the first time I've looked at this recipe thread. There are some great sounding ideas in here. Can't wait to try the fish cake recipe. So I thought I'd contribute my usually way of grilling Salmon. Take your salmon fillet remove the skin and de-bone the fish. Next I rub both sides with Sea salt, minced garlic & lemon pepper. Place the fish into a gallon sized zip lock bag. Add 1/3 Cup Soy sauce to it. Take 2 lemons and grade the zest from them into the bag Take the lemons, cut them in half and squeeze the juice into the bag as well. Marinate the fish in the fridge over night and flip the bag the following morning and continue to marinate until your ready to grill. make a foil bag and place the fish and the juice in the bag into the foil bag. Grill on high for about 7 -10 minutes a side. [ Post made via Android ]
  6. If I was looking for size I'd go towards Erie PA. Shade Beach or Elk Creek. You'll do good on numbers and size. [ Post made via Android ]
  7. Here's a couple pics from the other day. All the eyes we caught were keepers. [ Post made via Android ]
  8. We fished out of Barcelona Sunday. The bite is really picking up. We only fished for a few hours but managed 5 Eyes and dropped a nice one behind the boat. Fished 65 - 75 fow. Water temps down 55/60 feet west of the harbor were about 8 degrees cooler than east. The fishing seemed to get better the further west we went. My buddy did 10 on Saturday out of Shade beach in Pa. Dark colors seemed to be the best. Took one eye off a black and silver stick bait, the rest of worn harnesses. 10 color and dipsey rods took the most fish as we had about 10 silver bass and sheephead as well. I'd love to see a Barcelona report thread started. I'll be fishing it quite a bit. It's only 25 minutes from home and would be more than happy to contribute as many reports as I can!! 9. I have a friend looking for some Uni troll 10s. I'm assuming that's what they are. How old are they? Condition? You have pics? If they are in good condition I'm sure he'll take them. [ Post made via Android ]
  10. Just like daker said, read the posts. There is a ton of information on this site. This is my third year fishing Lake O and I'm completely hooked! I was you 3 summers ago and this site helped tremendously. I'm more confident on Ontario than any other lake. The information in the posts here can knock your learning curve way down. 11. Copper. 18 lb lead core sinks 4-5 feet for every 10 yards. 30 lb copper will have a sink rate of 5-6 ft every 10 yards and 45 lb will sink 7-9 feet. Depths also depend on trolling speeds. [ Post made via Android ]
  12. Make it 3 for the convector [ Post made via Android ]
  13. I'll run a rod down the chute often. Anytime we get a fish on, the chute rod comes out just so we don't get tangles [ Post made via Android ]
  14. I use an albright knot when connecting two lines with different diameter. [ Post made via Android ]
  15. Thanks for the input guys!! [ Post made via Android ]
  16. I'm finally switching my diver rods to wire. I'm looking at the spool of 1,000' wire and it doesn't seem like it will fill my reel. My reels are Okuma 30s. I didn't plan on using any kind of backer but I know the counters won't work properly if the reel isn't full. Will the wire cut into the backer? Is the spool a little deceiving and 1000' will fill the reel? How do you guys rig your wire rods? [ Post made via Android ]
  17. I just got my first down temp and speed unit. I've used it twice this week walleye fishing. I understand what temps I'm looking for when Salmon fishing but what is the best strategy to find it? Do you guys drop your prob before for sending out your spread and search for your desired temps? I guess what I'm trying to get at is what's the fastest way to find that 40/42 degree water to fish it? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm heading up to Ontario on Friday. 18. Did you find a motor yet? A friend of mine has a 5 hp honda 4 stroke, 2007. i think he's asking $1000 obo. I know it's a little more than you wanted to spend but the thing is like brand new.
  19. I used 3/4" Azak board about 12" long and as wide as I could go under the gunwals for a back support. 1/4" 20 x 2" screw, washer and nylon nut. All stainless. Did this to mount all my gear. 12" x 12" Azak board back support under my downriggers.
  20. That all sounds like a pain. What happens if you're fishing and you get a nick in your coated cable? No prob for the rest of the day? I'm glad I bought a fish hawk. [ Post made via Android ]
  21. Had a Amish tarp shop make a new top, side windows and cover this past week. Also found a kicker motor too. The motor came from an old local boat yard. The old man that ran it passed away a couple years ago and his son has been selling everything off. The motor is 10 years old but is BRAND NEW. Never been ran. Tiller handle was still in its original package and tags on the motor. 15 hp Tohatsu. Paid $1,000. Thought it was a good buy. Next pictures will be the last, after I get all my gear on. I should start receiving it next week. All my Big Jon gear is coming in Gold Finish! It gonna look sweet.
