What is up with Sodus?
Huntin' Trout replied to stoutner's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I think our memories are just too short - we were spoiled all to Hell last year in June and forgot what a normal year felt like. -

Our trip out of Sodus yesterday was very good. We worked mostly W - NW in 90' - 115' and had a steady pic all morning. We ended up 7/8 mostly lakers on bells but took a very nice 20# king on a 220' wire dipsy. We quickly released him without event. We to had another violent release on a 260' wire but after 3 or 4 minutes he managed to shake the hook. I won't complain... -
Sodus 6-9

We worked deep water Sunday morning and the screen was horrible. Worked in to 90' and picked up a 14# laker on the bottom. It was tough out there - radio silence all morning.. -

Thanks for the report - I kinda like targeting those slime balls sometimes - they can be a quite tasty change from salmon.. -
Great job!! Congrats!!

Nice job Ray - never underestimate the millions of uses for a quality wooden baseball bat

I have a Marlin - $120 gun with a $200 scope. Seems stupid but their button rifled barrels are second to none. This rig consistently takes ground hogs at 150 yds. Best buy I ever made in a small gun.

I grew up a few states to the south where bow season opened in mid September. It was always too hot but the 1st week of October was always perfect. I expect the same here. The acorn mast is good in most places and the full moon will make for perfect afternoon sits in the stand. The buck kill was never crazy in MD early season and the big bucks were always killed the last week of October through mid November. I expect the same here. I have lived here 7 years now and in my humble opinion this is an excellent decision from the DEC.

The 5 day forecast is looking much better for the weekend - I know it doesn't help you much this week but at least the wind will change and offer some relief. You are our eyes and ears this week though so get out there if you can and help us weekend warriors. I expect the changing conditions all week will have the kings scattered again.

I often wonder why I sit at work all week and watch a lake with < 2' ripples just to endure the 2' - 4' chop with the occaisional 6' swell to add insult to injury on the weekends. We have it bad!!

I spoke with you yesterday as I was crossing your bow (not that close) We stuck it out for another hour and were able to pick up 2 steelies in 170 FOW despite the conditions. We will never know how late morning would've been but the 8:30 prediction didn't work for any of us. 10:00 was looking better but we all gave in to the lake...

Thanks for the advice - how simple is that!! -

That does suck - 3 wees ago I replaced a 1000' of wire and used the wrong size crimping sleeves - you know the rest of the story - wire rod fires - set the hook and there goes a walker deep dive, SD and my favorite Atomik fly!!! -
How long should a free slider be? Mine are ~ 7' - 8' long and I haven't had any luck so far.

Question is - I see there are a ton of plugs on the market but I don't hear much about their use any longer. Are plugs a tool of the past or do they play a specific role at a specific time of the year or specific lake condition?
