  1. Good posts guys. The most important thing(especially with whats happening with the "TV hunters") is APPRECIATE the deer and even each other--as long as good sportsmanship is practiced. Too many horror stories of deer disrespected because "it was the wrong one". WHAT? Of course all hunters want the big racks, but its definitely gone too far and is ruining it for some. We have to have "numbers"-- each other--or the pursuit will be slowly legislated away. We can't lose sight of what deer hunting is truly about--venison for the table. That is truly the only way to hold off the anti hunters. It is the only justification that will stand the test of time as society drifts further and further away from this type of pursuit and heritage. Hunting is for managing deer numbers and harvesting (what is obvious to many) food for humans. For centuries big racks have been desired and revered but it was a bonus. Certainly there is nothing wrong with hunting for big racks as long as the venison is used, and certainly letting the young bucks grow is a good practice. It is sad however, to hear a young hunter criticize another because of a deer he took cleanly in a sporting manner. There is certainly room for all of it, some land is fit to be managed and some parcels are void of game an hour after the crops are cut or the first shot rings out. The most important thing is respecting the game and each other while realizing there are far more people that are indifferent to hunting that we don't want to see join the ranks of the antis.
  2. That last statement is a bullseye. Good luck in the woods.
  3. I told Joey the same thing! The ultimate would be to arrow a buck while salmon spawn unmolested in the stream below.
  4. Yes, the DEC did clip Coho adipose fins in some of the stockies last year and this year. Some of the Cohos that were clipped are matures this fall. I believe the DEC is trying to determine which return or imprint better--Spring fingerlings or Fall yearlings. They did not get word out sufficiently but they would like the heads from any Cohos with adipose(its the little one in front of tail on top) clipped and missing. Several locations have freezers and the one in Olcott is in its usual location next to the cleaning station at the town marina.
  5. Zinc is an excellent lubricant additive especially for engines with flat tappet cams. Today, primarily found only in racing oils like Brad Penn and Valvoline racing formula. Rotella may have it as well but I do not know for certain.
  6. I took over a set of 454's that lasted until 7800 hrs before overhaul. I know of guys that got 13,000--19,000 hrs out of them. I avoid ethanol whenever possible and use oil with zinc.
  7. No. Come to Capts meeting for all issues to be discussed. Sw is better than the current east!
  8. Yes Jerry, those tickets are available to people who cannot attend event. Thanks for the kind words, she has put a lot of work into this very worthy cause.
  9. We are now caught up with boats for existing teams. Still time to get in if you have a team of ladies in mind- which can be as few as 2 and as many as 6. Thx! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  11. "Reelin' for a cure" Ladies Tourney August 18th This will be the 2nd annual "Reelin' for a cure" ladies fishing tournament, August 18th 2017, held in Niagara County out of Olcott and Wilson 6am to 12pm, (weigh in and party to follow.) This event is an actual ladies competitive event that allows up to 2 men onboard. Interested teams/boat operators can contact via email [email protected] or facebook @ reelin' for a cure for more info. The main reason for this post is this event is growing rapidly. The number of interested womens teams is growing faster than boat operators willing to volunteer their boat that morning. Many of the boats that helped out last year came back this year with their own teams--leaving a shortfall to take out existing teams that dont have a boat. Because the boat operators are volunteering their expertise and vessel that morning, they DO NOT have to be a charter captain to participate. At this point the event has doubled in size, with more inquiries coming in daily. Last year over $5000 was raised for "Marys wig room", which assists women with the affects of chemotherapy. This year the benefactor is Breast cancer network of WNY--metastatic research.. If you want to help out an existing team(which are paying the tournament entry fee) with a medium to large vessel, or if you have a team in mind already please direct inquiries to the above contact addresses. Thank you from the Reelin' for a cure committee.
  12. We've tried a couple potions during this most fly heavy season. 1) Mint listerine dumped in a spray bottle--verdict?-- works very short term and then your ankles and boat are sticky. 2) dawn dish soap, regular formula--verdict?-- works better than the mouth wash. I think until it sweats off. 3) skin so soft by Avon--verdict?- works better than either of the above but the smell is so annoying its not worth it. We have one more to try once we round it up-- pure mint oil.
  13. Congrats x 10! Very cool.
  14. Just awesome! Very happy it worked out for you. Great journal and pics.
  15. This never ceases to amaze me-- stores that fail at the most important part of their business--taking your money in a timely fashion. Our nearest grocery store is like that and I go out of the way to avoid it.
  16. The marina is top notch. The town definitely fully understands fishing tourism and appreciates it. To top it off, Newfane is a great town to live in. Town Supervisor Tim Horanburg and Marina director Scott Sheffler do a great job and seem to have found a crew down there that appreciate their jobs and like being around people.
  17. Observer available for Orleans co. open June 10 and 11 Anyone looking for an observer for this event contact Charlie at 716-866-7462. He is very punctual and reliable, and knows what hes observing.
  18. Yet another case of "enviros" who want to take mankind out of the equation. I've never seen so much passing the buck and throwing each other under the bus than I have with this issue. Mr free college, who has been a longtime supporter of the past administration(who of course gleefully signed on for the 2014 plan) is now throwing him under the bus. Even more evidence he is plotting a run and hopes to be a candidate in 2020.
  19. I'm sure most marinas would take the job. The place that probably has the most experience would be Watercraft clinic in Red Creek NY. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  20. I saw a boat launching this afternoon at Wilson. Olcott launches are operational. In all cases expect to need at least knee boots or higher.
  21. There are not words to describe the hazards out there right now. With the wind switching back and forth and the water getting higher and higher--it just keeps coming. Caution is the word and eyes forward. Have seen entire trees in Niagara county waters this week.
  22. Not sure whats north of your location, but Seager Marine in Canandaigua NY is a long time dealer for Yamaha and have a good reputation.
