Not looking good for us fellas, The forecast as of right now is for 15 + mph winds out of the SSW. Thats a little to rough of waves for my 18 ft boat. Hope it changes before morning, but anything over 2 ft waves is out of the question for us.

I just spit beer all over my computer ADKGuide not being mean here at all butttttt......before typing next time confirm the type of fish your complaining about. Carp DO NOT....I REPEAT DO NOT run up any finger lake trib in the spring....those are suckers not carp, and they are far from a "disgusting nuisances" fish, invasive species or over populated, they perform a VERY important function in the ecosystem. Carp are very few and far between in the finger lakes, and they spawn in shallow mud flats in early to mid June.

I'll second that, This will be our first derby and will be my step sons first time out trolling on the finger lakes. Thank you so much for the quality time split shot! Good luck to everyone and we'll see ya all at the weigh in at the festival.

Need a good contour map of Cayuga......10 to 20 ft increments would be nice. If anyone has one that they can e-mail me or knows were I can download one I'd be in depted to you.

Thanks Longline, yeah, that's from the floor to the bulkhead. Its about mid thigh. And as far as trolling with the wind, I always do that, I have a blown out ear drum and my balance isn't always good so waves are not good for me to be moving around the boat with, trolling with the waves is a lot less "rocky". I can't wait for September to get here! My fiancee has never caught a salmon, this should be fun!

Which Finger Lake would you recommend?

I agree with HOOKEDUP............Canandaigua. Keuka is ok, but all your gonna get there are lakers( not necessarily a bad thing), Seneca and Cayuga get rough easy, so if you don't like waves or are in a smaller boat, pick a smaller finger lake. Just my 2 cents. -
Thanks guys, I as well had the same questions. I have an 18 ft Starcraft Mariner 180 with a Yamaha 115hp outboard. The side height is 25.5" and the width is 76.5" , How does that sound. Also, I plan to fish the mouths of Oswego and Salmon rivers around mid September for Salmon. Anything "special" I should know before heading up?

Slow day, one bow around 3 lbs on a glow yellow dare devil with a purple flasher down 80' in 150 fow. Couple of swing and misses. In the end, I am so lucky to be able to live in such an area as the finger lakes, Steamed fresh caught trout with sutaee'd wild scallions and puff balls, and home made dandelion wine all from with in a few miles of my house. Can it get any better?

Thats one hell of a male atlantic salmon! Look at the scale pattern, the spots are X's and it has no typical golden hue'd belly like you'd see if it were a brown. That thing is a lunker!

We're in guys. There are tent sites open for Friday at tuahanoock if anyone is interested, but hurry up as Saturday is already booked full. You should get our entry forms and money in the next few days. P.S. Anyone have the GPS coordinates for Myers Point? See ya all at weigh in!

I seen his expertise at this in person!

Here we go.....get yer boots on!

Hey guys we would like this to be our first derby. A few questions first. Is there a camp site with docks near or at Myers point? Or would Taughannock be a better option? Also, when do you need the entry form and money by the latest?

Well we tried to get out around 4 or so...FREAKING LAKE BLEW UP! <------Me and my girl!!....got as far as the light and turned the tiny ship around before we got sunk! I can't believe how bad it got even in an 18.5 footer!.......oh well.....time for some
-
Thanks Nick...We're gonna head out around 4 or so and give it a try this evening. I plan on running two dipsy's around 50' to 60' down and two poles bottom bouncing suttons straight down the pipe. We'll post back after we get back and let you guys know how it turns out.

Thanks for the info ERABBIT!

We are launching out of Watkins tomorrow....whats the hot colors on Seneca right now? What depth and over what FOW is everyone hitting them at right now? My step daughter is going with us for her first time ever trolling so we want to be productive. I have about every color spoon imaginable ....no flys though.

Can't say the same.....Just seemed I was always in the wrong place at the wrong time. 19k M1 tanker. 7th cav in the First Gulf war, also went to Panama in "Operation just cause" with the 82nd Airborne Armor unit in a M551 Sheridan. After the Gulf war I decided enough was enough! Oh yeah I spent 2 yrs in the Berlin brg during the end of the cold war, that was kind of cool. Anyways.....VERY nice first fish, that's a beauty!

Remember guys I use this set-up only in the finger lakes. Most fish you'll get down here are only around 4 or 5 lbs, so I reel up to the dipsy and then with my expert net woman, hand line in the fish and let it drop back into the net, simple as that. Thanks cowder for that info! I was wondering what I was gonna do this fall on lake Ontario, Like he says, don't even think about trying the hand lineing with a fish on lake Ontario! Oh and like he says, snap weights are the ticket, they work like a charm, got mine at Bass pro for cheap. -
Has new power pack, ignition coil, ignition pick-up, recoil spring. Runs good......in excellent condition. First $250 takes it.

I run the flasher about 10' back from the dipsy, then the spoon back from the flasher around 5' or so. Yeah I'm using crome and black flashers. -
Yep should work just fine, was on that lake last weekend and slammed the rainbows on chrome anything. about 2 to 3 mph in 120 to 160 fow.

Heres what we have been running the past few weeks and it seems to have been working. Forget the riggers for now, run two dipsys off 50# braided back 200ft with a 15' to 20' leader, I've been using 10# fluorocarbon. Run ether spoons or stick baits, but run flashers in front and adjust the dipsys to run out to the side down around 50'. Then run two lead cores with 2oz and 3oz keel weights back about 150 to 175ft, and again a 15' to 20' leader using your choice of bait, no flasher on these set ups though. I run these two straight down the pipe. Now we have been running 2 to 2.8 mph in 120fow to about 165fow, we've run in Seneca, Canandagua, and Kueka the past three weeks and caught fish in all three lakes with consistency. Personally I've been using any chrome or chrome/blue spoons. -
