The only thing that I have tried that removes varnish and does it well is E85 ethanol fuel. It will turn the varnish back into a liquid form and allow it to siphoned out. Now for the old gas. If mixed with new gas it will run fine through any car or truck. I would NOT run straight old gas. I would also get some of those disposable filters and pour it through that to ensure no debris makes it into the gas tank. A 50/50 old to new will be fine in a car. I bought my boat and the gas that in the tank was straight gold colored and was a little foul smelling. No varnish in the tank but I mixed it with fresh gas in my truck and car and didn't have any issues. Maybe I got lucky but it worked for me. Do I recommend doing it? Not really but if you have no other choice it could be a last resort kind of thing. Small gas engines are much much finicky when it comes to old gas than cars and trucks so personally I wouldn't use them. http://www.google.com/search?q=e85+to+remove+varnish&oq=e85+to+remove+varnish&aqs=chrome..69i57.5655j0j7&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=93&ie=UTF-8&gws_rd=ssl&safe=active&ssui=on

I would get a big mason jar and fill it with the gas and see what color it is. Also smell, it if it smells old compared to what New smells like then drain it Sent from my thinking chair...

Check out the "Homemade planer boards" post pinned at the top of this section or the "Questions about trolling" section there are 2 sets of plans. The one I used is the plans that have 2 boards. There is also plans for 3 boards but for most situations it is overkill.

I could be wrong (wouldn't be the first time just ask my wife) but on Lake O haven't the zebra mussels had a positive impact on the fishery?
-
I have 2 sets of homemade boards, I love the first set I have but they seemed to be too tall so I built a shorter set to try out. If I wanted something equivalent I would need otter boats, I just can't justify the money for those.

I have a countdown on my phone. I am sooooo ready for this year. Looks to be running about the same time as last year. Ice out is a little earlier but temps seem to be about the same. Here's to hoping the walleye fishing is as good as last year!! FISH ON!!

Depending on the motor year would dictate what I use. My motor is a 1988 150 I use synthetic blend. They never had synthetics back then so I did not want to chance going straight synthetic and something breaking. If I had a motor late 90s or newer I would not be afraid to use synthetic. I/O is a completely different story.

Points are cheap get yourself an extra rebuild set for back up and get the electronic ignition. FWIW there is a reason why they don't still put points in motors it is antiquated technology.

Shore Fishing?
Chas0218 replied to IAatHeart's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Try krocodile 1/4oz. casting spoons in blue silver, they are my go too when casting from shore. For me they out produce cleos 2:1. -
The problem with walleye fisherman is that they are like that everywhere not just in that body of water. I can attest to being that type of person. I don't give information regularly about an area unless I know the person. It's like hunting public property, see a guy ask him to tell him where his spot is then go in there and jump it. If you introduce yourself maybe offer up your boat or tackle and see if they can show you a few things. That is basically how I got started into this walleye thing, make yourself approachable maybe try to make a fishing buddy or 2 that fish the area. Disclaimer: I would offer info for this area but never fished it.
