  1. Nice going Orange Belly, nice to see some eyes on the board, they are definitely well fed from the picture, just curious as to what kind of fish is sticking out of the mouth of the one walleye. Can tell you are a walleye fisherman, "orange belly" LOL
  2. I was like a kid in a candy shop, I know there were some lures that got mentioned in another post, about the old stuff that still works, I remembered the names as I went through this stuff, actually I took it all and I'm still sifting through it. There were poles but all short and like broom sticks, maybe that was the thing years ago. A lot of smaller size Kwik fish attached to some of the smaller blade harnesses. It was kind of cool seeing some of these vintage lures, some I looked up and they are actually collector Items, Hofschnieder corp. Rochester NY, Lindquist Bros. Windsor, Tecumseh, Ontario Can.
  3. A friend of mine has a (junk removal business) and called me to check this stuff out before he scraps it, he tells me that a old lady is cleaning out her garage and her husbands fishing stuff is going to the garbage also, and I can have what ever is worth anything to me so, she says "my husband used to fish up on Lake Ontario, take what ever you want at least someone else could put it to good use" So I started looking this stuff over and I came across these reels, are they worth spooling them up? SG 27LC Sea Line. 210yards 20# is max. Mitchel Rip Tide E70CD. 225 yards of 30# test. Daiwa? just a level wined reel with 225yards of 25# test and another reel can't find a name on it, it looks like a Okuma or Depth master but not exactly anyway it holds 310yard of 25#test all the drags seem smooth. A tackle box that consisted of some stuff I don't even know what it is, for instance a big brass swivel with a round, white eyelet attached with that red shrink tubing the eyelet looks like it come out of two little wires that are shaped like a Y holding it in, any idea? Lots of those, Sutton spoons quite a few the #71 is on them. Some are silver on both side and some are silver/gold some are smaller. Then they are Dipseys size0 and bigger, then there is about 15 jay plugs. The Silver Bullet must have been hot back in 1988, size 4 must be 6-8 in that size and the same amount in size 3. Still in the box are 2 size3 "Glows in the dark" purchased in 1988 for a price of $4.99. Then there is 3 Les Davis dodgers rigged up with a squid blue/white glitter with inside tinsel, they must have been the lure of the time, there are 6 of the squids, also a red Deep Six diver, and a bunch of cannon releases, some stackers, some with white pads that you adjust with a knob, these have the adjuster on the top and some lock into place with ratchet type teeth you squeeze together and adjust the tension with a knob on the side. I think these are DR releases and the white padded ones are planer board releases. Then there are cowbells of all colors and sizes, this particular one is real copper made buy Luhr Jensen is called "Main Trail" with a #5 stamped in the blade, but it's not a size 5 blade. I use # 5 blades to build worm harnesses these are a unique shape, this lure has a lot of time as the holes are wore egg shaped from the clevis. There is a lot more but I thought this stuff was worth mentioning. Please give thoughts on the reels. Thanks, PAP.
  4. Here's a scenario, we were off the northern side of Galloo Isl. found a school of smallies, first we fished off all our live minnows, next all our night crawlers ripped into 3rds. with a 1/4oz jig head, then all our yellow twister tails 2" then just a yellow jig with nothing, all in a hour with the yellow jig still producing when we said enough of this!! Best day of fishing for bass I ever had on the lake. All were released for another day with absolutely no injuries to the fish. So I think right place right time, active fish will hit an just about anything that resembles what they are looking for regardless of color?? Just my 2 cents.
  5. Keep'n it Reel, sounds like you guys had your hands full, between the weather and your vehicle troubles and boat dilemmas it's amazing you were able to concentrate on fishing, but you were able to pull it off. Congrats. to you and your team. I find it awesome when people come together to help each other out, later to become friends. PAP.
  6. Looks like the Loch Ness monster. That glow fly brought him up from the DEEP.
  7. I just can't believe how fat the walleyes are out of that lake, the girth on them is amazing I bet they make for a awesome fighting fish, they have a body kind of like a smallie. I like the cheek meat also, that's what we call the cheeks also (poor mans scallops) we fry them in butter and a pinch of garlic, they are delicious, when we go out to western part of Erie in the spring one night we fry all the cheeks and have cheese and cracker and cheeks with a few beers, life doesn't get any better. Way to go on your catch, with many more to come!!! PAP.
  8. Sounds like only 1 fish if JT only made 3 passes, witch isn't bad for the dog days of summer, Late August early Sept. is the walleye transition period for the winter, things should pick up, I've had some of the best walleye catches I ever had in September off Stoney Point towards the cliffs!!! 130ft of water only 40 to 50ft down and some hogs I might add, I like to keep the 24 inch one for the table and release the rest for breeding purposes.
  9. That's awesome Grand-Pa, congrats to your family, may you and your new family member have a healthy and enjoyable life together PAP.
  10. Sorry I didn't think it was a joke. I don't usually speak my mind but that hit a nerve.
  11. I certainly don't want to start any $hit, but how about when making a statement like that, don't include all of us from PA. I'm sure the locals will frown on (Take them all and don't worry about the future)
  12. I'm sure your glad to see him Kevin, when was he born at 22" it wasn't that long ago. They grow up fast, it seems like only yesterday we brought the girls home and last Thurs-Sat. they got to fish the Black River, and next year they will be out on the lake, hopefully make the brown season, as boat is ready but to late in the year to tow up and in a few weeks tow home, not to mention Sept. 9 I go for back surgery again. Next year we will be ready to hit the lake both the boat and me. Take care and enjoy your bundle of joy and before you know it you will be purchasing his firs rod and reel, I'm sure grand pa. won't spoil him to much LOL. PAP.
  13. Thanks Matthew I am going to wright those numbers in my little book of notes, one thing I was wandering what kind of wire were you using and what # test was it (7 strand-19 strand or something else?)
  14. FleetTracker I don't want to sound snooty, but I wont sell this piece of $hit to anyone I know or someone that is looking for a good finder, it has been back to Lowrance twice and they know it's a problem and want to work with me on a HDS7. I bought it from Cabelas and they told me I could return it in trade for what ever I choose, they have the Furuno I want, of course I have to shell out a few more bucks but that's the rout I'm going to take. I'd be foolish to pass that up, not to mention all the migraine pills you will need if I sold this unit to you, I don't want to be the red headed step child in your eyes.
  15. The walleyes the girls and I caught, were caught trolling, from the big rocks at the end of the river to the weeping willow tree in the first turn from the Dexter launch.
  16. CONGRATS on your first king, and your sons smile is priceless also, I remember the first one we caught I didn't have all the info from this site to help us, so it was like high fives and hand shakes, we finally did it!! we forgot all about the fish in the net it was crazy for a while. I'm sure it was like that for you. Good going!!!
  17. Someone mentioned where are the walleye, I know personally of a catch that came out of Henderson, that consisted of 7 walleye ranging from 6.5 to 12.75 lbs that was caught on Friday. The guys cleaned their fish in the Black River Bay camp grounds as we were cleaning ours, that came out of the Black River, I had my twin girls with age 8 and they had a blast of course our catch of 9 walleyes ranging from 20.5 to 24 inches didn't hold a candle stick to the guys out of Henderson, I got to show my girls that's what walleyes look like when they grow up, they were just in aw, and couldn't believe the size, I told them next year when I bring up our (big) boat we will catch the big ones also (hopefully)
  18. That's really what I wanted to say, but there are Canadians on this board and they are humans also, so they have feelings, and it's not their fault, they can't help what their government does.
  19. I bought a Lowrance Elite 7, the biggest mistake I ever made. I had so many problems I can't even remember what was the first one, they don't have enough memory to run a decent card, like one that has depth contours, and you can't zoom in enough to see what depth your in on the chart, of course you have your depth finder so you know what depth water your in. They only accept the mini cards. They claim it's user friendly, but with POOR instructions, you better play with it a while before heading out on the water or you will be disappointed and aggravated with it not to mention totally confused and you fishing trip will be consumed with the finder and not fishing, if your gps works right you might be out of the knowledge of your ground speed. Mine is coming off my boat and I'm getting a fish finder and a separate gps so when one pukes I still have one or the other not totally out of commission. Probably going with a Furuno fish finder and I don't know yet what for chart plotter.
  20. I forgot to mention that we went on a cruse around the thousand Islands on Saturday and crossed into Canadian waters and the captain was telling us what you have go threw, it sounded like it wasn't worth it if you didn't have all your ducks in a row, they made it sound like the fines and confiscation of your boat and take you to their customs where you will go through a vigorous one on one talk with a Canadian border patrol officer, and if you pass you get to walk back to the good ol USA. He made it sound that it isn't worth it and I agree.
  21. I can tell you first hand they DO enforce the DWI game, we went to Canada fishing for a week and my uncle had a DWI back 15 years ago and they made him buy a (or return to the USA) 7 day visa which cost $200.00 and he had to be back at customs at a certain time, and the visa cost was not refundable, just another gimmick for those Bastards to get in your pocket. After that episode and a lot of other things they did to us I will never step foot in that country again. Been going to Canada for over 20 years and that trip was my last.
  22. fbg14619, if you launched at Dexter then there are 3 islands the first one is in the first turn you can see it from the launch the second one is about 3/4 down the river and the 3rd is directly behind the second one, there was one on the right, and now it's marked buy bouys , then your in the channel going out into the bay.
  23. Kevin my story doesn't hold a candle stick compared to your catch!!! way to go and congrats to you, you definitely had a day on lake O you will never forget GOOD FOR YOU!!! when we got in to clean our walleye there were a bunch of guys, One guy had a Black River Bay Campgrounds Tee shirt on, those guys had our attention they had a 7 walleye the smallest one weighed 8.5 lbs and the rest were bigger this was the biggest box of walleye I ever saw in my life, after reading your story I thought it might have been you? there was 4 guys, so I showed Emily your picture and she doesn't think that was you at Black River. We had a nice catch to eat but those guys had wall hanger walleye and they were filleting them so I think they do well often, they didn't seem to excited, I would have been going nuts if I would have such a catch, that catch and yours were amazing congrats to the both of you. PAP. PS. I asked where they caught them and my answer was (out in the big water) I should of known better.
  24. Took my two daughters up to the camper Thursday - Sat. I didn't bring my Sea Ray as it was just the three of us, used my uncles boat 16ft (mister musky). Got out on the river around 7.30 and headed down to the snake pit last island on the river, little cove on the right caught 3 right off the bat their first smallies, they were shocked at hard they fight and jump out of the water, really cool dad!!! Moved up to the split and managed a few more, the fishing slowed down a little so I had a chance to make a few casts and managed a 20.5 inch walleye, they never saw a walleye so that was neat for them, made another cast and another walleye, this time I handed the pole to Emily and she landed her first walleye. Now they want to fish for walleye so Got out the trolling rods and inline boards and let out 75ft of line and hooked up first board then commenced to get Elizabeth set up 100ft back hooked board up with an lure not sure what it is green on top bright orange on bottom with loud rattles and Emily had a small purple on top and yellow bottom hot & tot we managed a one man ticket with 2 nice small mouths in 4 hours girls had a blast and dad couldn't have been more proud of them!!! Day 2 we were on the water 7am with same program hit one right away with the hot & tot, but Elizabeth's hot lure was not to hot this day so I rigged up a small wiggle wart green on to and bright red on bottom, the girls managed 9 walleyes ranging from 19.5 to 24 inches with 4 passes on the river we had no luck trolling down river for some reason, so I ran down the side and set up for a up stream troll. So hopefully I have 2 walleye junkies till it won't be cool to hang with dad. PAP
