  1. We have 29lbs already it will be interesting.
  2. I know Jim Tunney is in first with over 31lbs for 4 fish. My team is 5 th with 29 lbs even. Bite has been strong for us. We did 30 eyes yesterday. I'll post later today the results and how and were we caught them.
  3. 12lb on riggers. 15lb on leadcores. Dipsey if I'm running sticks or spoons 15lb test.
  4. Absolutely Dipsey will be much deeper.
  5. How it happened for us is we never could catch many Browns on Ontario and I don't know who it was but they said I was fishing to heavy of line. I started ready every thing I could on this page. Taking a light leader allows us to run th WDs slower with more action. Then last year I was like why do I run metal leaders on my harness attached to florou leader? Every harness we run know has a florou leader. They break in the net occasional and I just re tie them.
  6. We did 13 Sunday. 300 copper and riggers with wd spoons 75 ft down. I'll tell you one thing we I truly believe in is light leaders, small swivels, small spoons and slow. Act like you brown trout fishing in April in olcott but with the lure 70 ft plus down. I learned a ton on this site applying trout techniques to walleye. Temp and down speed are so important and I'll never run anything but stealth core and a church board as far as lead core.

    Keep vs release

Those little ones don't have cheeks as big either. In the tournaments we throw a lot of little ones back under 5 lbs. This is a little off topic but taking an 8lb eye's back strap and cutting it into one inch sections (like a deer back strap) frying pan with olive oil and garlic and pepper just so it's barely cooked and then dip in garlic butter.

The one thing about Erie is the lake protects those walleye about 250 days a year with the season change and wind. Also there is a definite decrease in fishing pressure in my opinion. I think this conversation applies a little more to smaller lakes and or lakes with limited natural reproducing. I know it's backwards but we throw the ones under 20 inches back a lot.

    bay of quinte

Would like to go ice fishing to Quinte. We are experienced ice fisherman but would like to be transported back and forth and fish out of a nice fish hut. Let me know if you guide or know someone whom does or any suggestions.
  12. Go east Jigstix. Dunkirk. Out on the line little east. Or fish the bottom inside 80 ft.
  13. Just got an email today that they extended deadline.

    Buffalo eyes

I have fished off sturgeon on the line and know early in the year the guys out of buffalo do very well. The past few years the buffalo bite has been strong but you can't beat west of the Catt to the pa line in the heat of summer. Deep cold water holds the bait when things get warm and the strong west winds the last week has warmed up the bottom temps drastically on the east end. I am sure there is still plenty of eyes being caught out that way just giving my opinion.

    Buffalo eyes

Dunkirk. You can catch them 70 to 75 ft straight out. Fish are deep on the bottom. Or a little east out towards the border has been good. We did 60 eyes plus in three days during con club tourney. Fishing has been crazy good out of Dunkirk since early to mid May. 7 colors has been our shallow rod with best bite 50 to 60ft down out deep and 5 to 10 ft off bottom on the inside bite. Riggers, Dipsey, lead they have not been to picky. Words been quite because of all the tourneys but limit catches have been pretty common. We fished Barcelona a few days prior to Sunset Tourney and in my opionion in the last few weeks the most consistent bite has been Dunkirk to Center rd. Good Luck. Good bunches of the various Erie trout species out there too. Sunday we did two steelies, lost two, lakers and a brown.
  17. Jigstix we fish olcott the last weekend in August yearly. We fish early in the morning in tight under 100ft and then head north and get steelhead and smaller Salmon. Basically trolling spoons in the top 70 ft and when we get a few or find a break we circle it. Go in for dinner and fish 5 pm to dusk in tight some times in less then 70 ft. Dipsey's, riggers tight to the bottom or were ever you see them on the graph. Spin Doctors and flies seem to produce well for us at this time of year.
  18. Last night out of Dunkirk in a 100 ft of water we got a wild suprise on a downrigger 57ft down with a watermellon wd. We ended the late afternoon trip with 1 brown, 4 lakers all 10 plus pounds, 6 eyes and this 6lb Coho. Last erie salmon we caught was maybe 18 plus years ago. we have been recently catching browns and a few steelies every time out mixed in with lots of eyes.

Erie... Easy to catch when it ain't blowing like a mother or frozen. We feed the family and friends, nieghbors and whom ever else stops by. Take the back strap off the ten pounders fillet them in half and tell everybody they are 20 inchers. The big ones only taste different because of how they are cleaned and prepared. We do release a few but fillet 300 plus a year and eat everyone. I understand catch and release on a lot of lakes and slot limits are a good thing. Habitat management and stocking on lakes are much more important then a handful of anglers taking a limit. Some lakes that are getting stocked now where just never meant to have walleyes in them. Take the eyes before the DEC figured they are not reproducing and they are just feeding the Muskies and Bass with the fingerlings.
