  1. Back in the 80s when people were building double boards out of cedar, we'd move the pull point fore/aft to adjust them. If I recall correctly, we settled on a board that had two holes, one for faster salmon trolling speeds and one for slower walleye trolling speeds; we’d move the hook from one hole to the other. If I recall correctly, the faster salmon hole was the one towards the front and the slower walleye hole was behind it by an inch or so. If the principle is similar, it might help to try a pull point slightly behind the current location. You might try fashioning a bent offset pull hook to fit in the existing hole in the board to reposition the pull point. Try to keep the pull point the same distance offset from the side of the board as that is a factor also – if you change that you're changing two things at once.
  2. Under-powering a boat so severely is a sure way to vastly limit your pool of potential buyers.
  3. I have a pair of older style Cannon 9" risers. I used them to create an elevated trolling board across the stern of a smaller boat I no longer have, they brought the riggers up to a nice standing height for me instead of always having to kneel to rig lines. Each of the 4 cast aluminum bases has both 2 1/2" and 4" square bolt patterns. The 4" spaced holes are smooth for through bolting into deck plates. These are the holes I used and they show some wear from bolt heads. The 2 1/2" spaced holes are tapped with threads and are unused on both (threads are clean and corrosion-free). Functionally they are very strong and rigid, and while installations can certainly vary from one boat to the next, I always felt confident leaning against the board mounted between them with my 280lb. The standard 9" height could be lowered by trimming the aluminum tube between the cast aluminum bases. The tubing is designed to be run completely through the bases and set-screwed in place flush with the top and bottom base surfaces. The minimum height these could be configured to is about 4 3/4" with the bases touching each other and the tube trimmed accordingly. You could also go taller with longer tubing, if my memory serves me right I think Cannon made them up to 12" tall. $90 seems like a fair price. That's 4 bases at $20 each + $10 to cover shipping. They were about 50% more when new. I may need to disassemble them for packing and shipping in a USPS Flat Rate box (there are 4 set screws for each riser assembly) - if so, you will need to reassemble them with an Allen wrench. Payment, you choose one or the other: PayPay Friends and Family $90 shipped with tracking by USPS to your standard USPS address. - or - PayPal Goods and Services $93 shipped with tracking by USPS to your standard USPS address. Please post your interest in the thread and also message me through LOU mail.
  4. I have one new 300' Opti-Tackle 45lb copper in original packaging. PayPal friends and family price is $27 shipped with tracking by USPS to common US address. - or - PayPal goods and services price is $28.12 shipped with tracking by USPS to common US address. If you are interested, please make a post in the thread and also send me a message through LOU mail.
  5. I have a Fish Hawk TD that was given to me that I never used. The packaging has been opened so I'm going to say it was probably lightly if ever used. Apparently it was a gift to this person, but they bought an X4 shortly after it was gifted to them. I've had it for a couple years and wont use it as I have a couple X4 also. I pressed the start button and it appears to operate as it is supposed to though I have no way to check the water depth function. $90 Shipped with insurance and tracking via US Postal Service with payment of PayPal friends and family, or $93 if transaction is run through my PayPal business account with fees. Your choice. If interested, please post a reply in thread and message me via LOU mail.
  6. With respect to reels, “Low budget” for peace at home and “high quality” tend to be mutually exclusive. There are a few mid priced and mid quality reels though. Daiwa Sealines and Okuma Coldwaters are a good value and the line counter is on top (IMO where it should be) instead of sticking out on the side.
  7. Action is how the rod bends, power is stiffness or resistance to bending. There are no industry wide standards to either, but usually just what a company designates a rod to distinguish it relatively among other rods it offers. That being said a rod labelled 12-25 lb test line is on the very high power end of what people generally use for a rigger rod. 1 or 2 classes less powerful, such as 8-17 or 10-20, would be considered more desirable by most people.
  8. You will want a ceramic ring rod tip instead of stainless if you plan to run braid instead of only mono. Braid will groove a stainless rod tip over time.
  9. 20 Evil Eye spoons, (Small 2 7/8" size) All lures have been cleaned, all chrome surfaces have been buffed with polishing compound, and washed multiple times in dishwasher. Some are unused, most are VG, and 6 have been repainted (1 on top left and 5 on bottom right) I accept PayPal (or cash if you want to pick up in Niagara Falls, NY) $45.00 (friends and family) - or - $46.65 (if run through my PayPal business account) - your choice - I will ship spoons loose (not in individual bags) inside a bubble-pack envelop to your USPS mailing address. I will ship with USPS tracking and provide the tracking number to you.
  10. Built by a friend who recently passed, I'm selling his custom made Lamiglas 10' 1-piece mod/fast action, MH power surf/pier spinning rod. Please note that I do not know what the blank model number is as I did not make this rod. The rod has cork grips, a Fuji graphite seat, Fuji Silicon Carbide (SiC) surf guide set (8 + tip). This rod features a traditional "cone of flight" guide layout with guides sized for a large frame spinning reel (40mm collector guide). The rod has a "Thunderbird" pattern decorative butt wrap in metallic gold (see photo). Guide wraps are a complimentary brown, black with gold trim. The rod's overall condition is very good. It does have some cosmetic blemishes typical of a well cared for but used rod. A new rod made with equivalent components (Lamiglas surf rod blank, Fuji SiC guides, Portuguese flor grade cork grips) and similar thread artwork would cost $600-$700 I'm selling this rod for $100. The rod cannot be shipped for a reasonable cost due to it being overlength. You must pick it up in person. A $50 refundable deposit, by PayPal, will hold the rod for a reasonable period of time (up to 10 days). You can inspect it in person in Ransomville, NY and decide if you want it. Bring your reel and a casting weight and you can test cast it with your specific reel. If you decide you want it you can pay the balance at that time, cash or PayPal. If you decide it's not what you wanted, I'll issue a PayPal refund and relist it. If you have any specific questions, message me through LOU and give me your phone number, I'll call you and we can talk about the rod.

  13. Slide divers are stealth presentations. Regular divers are an aggressive presentation. When the bite slows on the regular divers you can either lengthen leads and hand line fish to net or switch to a slide diver. IMO you need to decide how you want to run both short (aggressive) and long (stealth) rather than choosing between one or the other. When I start out in the morning and I expect the bite to be on I run mag wire diver inside short (aggressive) and reg wire diver short (aggressive) outside that. If the bite slows, I switch to a longer lead behind the mag and I switch out the outside regular diver for a wire slide diver making both stealthier.
  14. If you check both sides with a cell phone and determine the average of the two readings, the boat doesn’t have to be level (nor does the line you check against) so there’s no need to jack a boat and check it with a level. You can also hold a straight edge along one side so it extends past the keel and measure the angle and divide by two, and/or rotate the image so the straight edge and hull match the horizontal grid. This method also doesn’t require the boat to be level.
  15. After using weighted steel on a couple rods I replaced all but one of my coppers a couple years ago.
  16. I highly recommend contacting Larry Goltz for boat insurance. Larry is an avid boater with a fleet of museum quality classic and antique boats he’s personally restored. He’s an independent agent so he can tailor a policy to your specific needs from a large number of companies he works with. He understands insuring newer and older boats with lots of high value gear aboard. 17. I prefer 19 strand to 7 strand. I find it’s diameter difference irrelevant. It’s softer, easier on guides, frays before breaking giving you an opportunity to affect a repair instead of losing gear; it’s extra initial cost is saved the first time you find and repair a bad spot instead of losing gear. You can also tie some knots in it without linking and breaking. Other people will tell you they prefer 7 (or something else) and they will have their reasons. What really matters is what you think, why not give it a try and find out if you like it.
  18. In reels, torque and speed are an inverse relationship, you can’t get both - it’s simple physics of mechanisms. Reels don’t create power, they use the power you supply. I don’t recommend high speed reels for rigs used to tow heavier gear. It’s like riding a bike up a hill in a high gear - too steep a hill in too high a gear and you struggle. High speed reels are better used for light rigger and planer board lines. Longer (heavier) weighted lines and big divers pulling attractors need torque not speed.
