  1. Wondering if any one has tried these. Their free slider clips meant to improve hookups by keeping more tension than just a normal swivel. Seems like a great idea so I bought a pack to try. Wondering if anyone has any tips before I send them out. Made by Michigan stinger Thanx Sent from my XT1254 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Some of today's fish....... Sent from my XT1254 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Sandy Creek always seems to be the last place to get consistent with kings. So up until today I primarily target the Lakers for volume (I always fish with kids or a newbie). Every year we hammer the Lakers on the same coordinates. If your hooking into Lakers in as shallow as 30 fow go deeper and the class and quantity will go up for you. The big guys prefer that high 30-40 degree water on the bottom which now is in at least 70fow . However today was me and the fishing buddies, and with the reports trickling in for kings in sandy that was the game plan. We set up in 45fow as to hopefully catch an early bite ( but got allot of short strikes). Temps I feel are to warm that shallow and as we slid out the screen got better and the temps were perfect (60 down 45-48 degrees). We had allot in and out of the equipment we just could not seal the deal as often as hoped (maybe the cold front slowed the bite down? The Pros can answer that). 4. First line in the water by 630 in 45 fow . three min in took a solid shot on 35 foot rigger that came unbuttoned quick . signs to a phenomenal day, or not so much. We trolled north west until 140fow with three more shots all which came unbuttoned and landing one nice Atlantic. Short strike after short strike. Swing back around south and trolled into 90-120fow. Worked that depth for last two hrs where we managed a laker (10lb) and three kings (6-10lbs), and lost a bruiser on a dipsy when swivel snapped. 300 copper took the 2 of the kings on a meat rig, rest were spoons. Ended fairly well. Until tomorrow Sent from my XT1254 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Gorgeous steelie, nice to start to seeing them in pics Sent from my XT1254 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. I don't use snubbers and rarely have a break off. 30 lb leader and make sure the drag is good. Sent from my XT1254 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Should do it fine. I'm using a factory transducer (83 200) nothing special. I know I played with mine Alot and seemed to lose effectiveness. When in doubt I go back to factory default setting and then tweek it from there. No huge adjustments at once. Past 100 fow make sure your on 83. I would have to check my ping and such to tell you my exact settings. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. These were the screens we got all day once we dialed them in. You can actually see the down speed on fishawk (1.4) and GPS speed (1.7). Water temp at 70 foot rigger was 42.8. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. It does not have a motor. I'm going to take an old rod ,cut off the handle ,and mount in front of the unit. The drill adapter is primarily for stripping line, which is pretty slick. I had purchased a berkley plastic line winder and within 1 day it broke and was so light one person had to hold it while another reeled. This unit its built like a tank Sent from my DROID RAZR using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Any one looking for a good line winder thought I would share this. Made by south chatam this line winder is awesome and fair price. Bought to spool my own copper set up. Heavy duty and lots of tension for braid and such. I bought the line counter separate because of the copper I want to spool. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Keel weights are cheep and easy. The red neck chart IS handy to ball park the lure depth. The other pic gives you some basic set up for leads using different gear. I started out of a pontoon with no down riggers. Even now no matter how much gear I have, I always have some keel sinkers running when were out deep targeting steelies up high. 12. Reels I use saltist, but any line counter reel will work. I just prefer the fast retrieval and smooth drags of saltist. They'll last forever. My planer board rods I have 15 mono and rod on my riggers 25 lb McCoy mono. My planer board rods are staged 75- 150 feet being the boat. google trolling sinkers and that will help you picture it. feel free to private message me anytime. Trolling sinkers are nice if you don't have down riggers or want more lines out without all the clutter next to the boat. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. I do best when top water column is in low to mid 50 degrees. Always looking for a scum line out deep or some sign of current then check temps around that area. It can be a hunt but when guys are bumper to bumper fishing in tight you'll have the center of the lake to yourself . (always have a gps , old school compass, and radio). It can be very disorienting Out there. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. These were the hot combos last couple times out, with green dot catching two to one. If their hungry speed is probably more important over color. If you don't have down temp and speed watch the bend in the dipsy rods to judge speed , and when you mark fish on the bottom there is the temp. I usually start with whites and greens for color then go from there. Alot guys use the cow bells ( probably best set up) but I don't think their needed to catch good numbers. 16. When summer gets in full swing I'm usually at least 400fow and toward the shipping lanes. Riggers 50 feet and up. I also run planers and in line sinkers from 1-2 ounces with ten foot leaders to spoons. The first time I stumbled out deep on Steelie bite, when inside water was 70 degree top to bottom and having a hard time on salmon, I was hooked. 17. Sandy creek is between the two. 30 min east of oak orchard. 30 min west of irondiquoit bay. The laker I caught two days ago just under 25 lbs I would guess is About 20 years old and they live up to 40 years. Problem with lakers surviving is not the Size its the water they prefer. Your pulling them up from 40 degree water making them fight in to 70 degree water in the summer. I've been lucky enough to fish with captain Jeremy Sage of "locked up" and watch him work on a lake trout 30 min along side the boat to get him back to the bottom of the lake in good health. Most guys just throw them over board and so oh well or don't know how to work a fish back to health. I sure didn't until Jeremy showed me. We put average 20 a short trip in the boat last couple outings and only had one that e had to bring home cause of the way it got hooked Sent from my DROID RAZR using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. I wrote a report two days ago about lakers at sandy creek. Their in there thick and their are lunkers consistent. Fyi these fish live a long time and taste horrible. The best we can do to release them helps everybody. This time of year they survive the fight very well. However in a month as surface warms way up they have a hard time recovering from the fight. Food for thought. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. When summer gets here, gas the boat up and head out to the 400's plus for steelhead. There is no better fishing Sent from my DROID RAZR using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. In dead heat of summer they push way out deep but on a slow king bite we'll drop the riggers down to them. They definitely move back in once the water cools back down. However October November are the best of off shore steelhead times. That's the best fishing in my opinion on any species in lake O. I usually fish for lake trout when the salmon or steelhead aren't cooperating. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Spin doctors and flies, mag spoons is all I use. Right now I would start in 80 fow troll north till you mark on the bottom. We caught fish as deep as 150 fow on riggers down 125 with wire out 300 feet. But it is all temp specific. Sandy creek is the best for lakers and will remain that way for another month then they'll get pretty deep to chase. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Lakers I'm looking for high 30's to 40 degrees on the BOTTOM. Find that and look for marks. Speed I always fish 1.6 - 2 mph are ideal speed. They are fat and lazy slow down if there not hitting but your marking. We had multiple fish hit when we stalled the boat or in the turn. Colors I always start white. We had them hitting white chilly Willie mag, white with green dot spin doctor, etc. 300 copper took multiple fish and divers out 225-300. But we also took some on Riggers as high at 60 feet. If they are aggressive they'll eat anything, just stick it in their face and watch the rods Sent from my DROID RAZR using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. They were big and hungry tonight. Caught my personal best at 25 lbs and we had couple more at 20lbs. Trolled 4 hrs with multiple doubles and triples. Roughly 20 in the boat and lost a couple, one nice steelhead to top it off. We had more rods in the launcher than in the water because they wouldn't give us time to reset. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. Took one laker in 220fow on dipsy out 220 feet flasher and fly. Got excited when we got these screens but couldn't move a rod rest of the day Sent from my DROID RAZR using Lake Ontario United mobile app
