5/30. 3-9 pm. Solid night of fishing. Started a little bumpy but smoothed right out to b gorgeous. We started out in 150 on a north troll trying hard to not catch a laker and get into some silver fish. Riggers at 20 ,40 ,60 . dipsy out 120 and 150 . 200 copper ,and 250 copper. Pretty blank screen all the way to 220 fow taking a king (10lb) on 40 for rigger and a laker on 250 copper. After 1 1/2 hrs we packed up and ran into 130 fow to set up again. We trolled into 115 fow and took multiple kings from 8-12 lbs and couple more Lakers 8-12 lbs. As we slid into 85 feet we took our biggest king of the night 15 lbs and nice steelie at 10 lbs that hit the 200 copper while sending it out, it was only 30 feet behind the boat. I don't know if the spoon was even two foot under water. Quite a show to say the least. Throw in a handful of skippies and we had a good night for two guys on a windy day. Quick question, when running more than one copper on a side which rod goes where? 400 copper outside, 300 closer to boat? Normally I would run deepest with shorter lead close to boat then high setup long lead on the outside. However with copper deep means longer. Not that you can't get Maguiver on this to create the same effect. If you looked at one closely the "rubber" in the middle is thick. If you dipped a swivel in liquid rubber it would not be near as good on the holding power to the main line (nor wood it last as long). Personally just tight enough to troll without it creeping. Most times when we change directions or wind picks up my speed I'll notice because I'll hear the drag paying out some line. However if I was using Magda pros or comparable reels I would use a snubber or heavy (50lb) leader. With saltist or tekota reels there sensitive enough where I'm confident with no snubber 40lb leader Sent from my XT1254 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

My first trolling rig lol........ Dipsy divers, in line sinkers....... If it dragged a spoon under water I was fishing. Spent lots of days fishing the shipping lanes for steelhead in this 16 foot tri hull. You learn a lot when you have no down speed , down temp , riggers. I agree on the jerk, took me by surprise the first trip out. I spent next couple trips checking my fiberglass thinking she's going to blow.......... I prefer the un beaten path, especially on memorial day weekend. It's a long way to troll to Braddock's from sandy creek and most people only make it 1/2 way there at best. That's where we start the day usually not end the day. I troll a lot of afternoons cause of kids school and I always do better where the boats haven't pounded away all morning. Sometimes you got to leave the pack even though you think there all together because there's a lot of fish under them. Fish get over pressure just like any animal hunted. 25lb Fluoro to flasher seems light (but if it's working stick with it). Pre rigged flies come with heavier fluoro making your leader the weakest link. Fluoro is no to low stretch which is why instead of snubber most guys choose mono. "Stretches" like a snubber. I just made all my leaders. 40lb big game 6' long for flashes (bigger swivels) , 25lb McCoy mean green 10' long for spoons. Then I make bunch of 10' long 20lb mc coy clear for in line sinkers as a junk line off the planer boards of steelie are up high and hungry. In the end it's all about the drag. If your using Okuma mag pros or budget friendly reels go a little heavy on leaders (drags are consistent) if your using saltist or tekota level reels lighten up. I get the Michigan stinger product catalog. It is pretty ingenious. I cut a slit in the rubber and you have a fixed. Worst case scenario is you have a free slider.
