  1. Took forever to bring in. We thought huge northern, muskie or laker until it surfaced and gave up. Kept running. Fun fight.
  2. We fished outside the isthmus and near the green can outside Chaumont Bay on 7/6. No 'eyes, but did drag up this beast.
  3. I have a place in Guffins bay. The water is up for sure. It started out so low that everyone thought that was the starting point for the year. It looks more average for like May time, right now, to me.
  4. We got a hell of a storm system and apocalyptic this AM. Some say it rained like crazy all night in some places. Suns out now though.
  5. We did one SMB, a sheepy and one perch today. Pretty slow.
  6. Funny. I took my 9 year old and his 14 year old cousin out today too. We went 15/19. Most being Sheep's. We did get 3 walleye, one nice Perch and a Northern.
  7. I doubled up on a couple heavy fish last week in Chaumont Bay, targeting eyes, of course. My first thought was, "sweet, doubled up on some walleye.". First one in the net, sheep. My next thought, "well at least one is a walleye." Nope, another sheep. Weird.
  8. We have a place in Guffins Bay, almost to Guffins Creek. We have been watching a bald eagle over there for about four years now. My wife actually was lucky enough to see it go fishing and fly off with breakfast one morning last year.
  9. Solid point. I have a walk around so not too bad. A full cuddy would make it tougher and dangerous.
  10. I run mine off the bow cleat, through the bow rail and to the bag. I have seen some where they use the spring(side) cleat. They both probably work equally well and I don't think the tension is putting too much strain on the bow cleat. They pull, but that bow cleat is anchored pretty beefy. Where you anchor it, just depends on which way you think places the bags best in the water. The rail on the other hand is not a good idea. They are only attached with wood screws and you run the risk of bending the rail or pulling your wood screws out of the hull. I went and bought some dock lines with the pre-tied loop in one end. That is the end I attach to the cleat. The other end is tied to the bag. Don't forget a tag line to retrieve them with. Good luck.
  11. Nice work, Gene. As always, the class act of the walleye chase.
  12. If I remember correctly, they were measured weird. Something like measured across when they are laying flat, so maybe they would be less in diameter. I seem to remember Amish being measured differently too.
  13. Def. two bags. I use two of the Big Papa Sport fishing bags in size 36" for my 22' Trophy with a 125 Merc. I can get to 1.5 easily and still not be at idle. I too called the guy and he was more than helpful. We even talked walleye fishing for a while too. From what I understand, the Amish bags are really nice too.
  14. I took my dad and a friend of his out Saturday AM. It was cold, but the walleye were on. Three in the boat before 8 AM, and five by 11. Most came on a ReefRunner 800 in 20-30 FOW. It was like a red confetti colored thing. One came on a floating rainbow Rapala off the downrigger. Same water.
  15. Yup. What with the low clouds and the intermittent rain, I thought the walleye bite would be rampant. Wrong.
  16. Fished 6-11 this AM. Only one eye to show for it all. Chaumont Bay.
  17. Not sure of you saw this or are anywhere near Rochester, but this might work. Rochester CL # 5040963771
  18. We took five out of Chaumont Bay yesterday. We fished 6AM till noon. I saw the wagon train next to Cherry Island and chose to avoid it since we were firing rods elsewhere. I would say the bite is on the rise yet. I took a female walleye last weekend that was still full of eggs. Had I known, I would have sent her back. I didn't expect to see that this late. All of my fish yesterday were taken in 20-30 FOW. Very specific depth and colors were consistent.
  19. I am a big believer in mirrored lenses. Maybe I am brainwashed by marketing, but it seems as though when I spend a long day in glaring conditions, my eyes are less dry and fatigued with mirrored lenses. Just some background: I spend my entire Spring, Summer and most of Fall on the water. My winter is spent on the snow...ice fishing, skiing and patrolling. I have had many pairs of glasses, and the mirrored seems to give me the best relief. For instance, the glasses I wear for waterfowling are not mirrored, and my eyes are crushed at the end of the day. Just a theory I have.
  20. Hammer's down is right on. The back(tag) line keeps them close to the side and makes retrieving them way easier. Just pour the water out by pulling up on the tag line.
  21. I just got my Smith Backdrops with the polarchromic glass lenses. I definitely don't think the copper will be too dark. When I first tried them on, I was not annoyed by the fact that I was wearing sunglasses inside, yet when I went outside they were super clear and offered enough tint. The change in tint was not noticeable. While driving in the afternoon low sun, they handled the glare remarkably well. The sides are sturdy and sprung to keep them on well. Overall, very nice so far.
  22. Call the manufacturers. I have Big Papa brand and they were super helpful deciphering what size/how many to get for my boat. I am sure Amish brand will do the same.
