  1. I use a 5’ leader with a duo lock snap on each end then take a rubber band and half hitch it to your DR cable at the depth you want to be at. Lock one snap over your line and clip the loop of the rubber band onto it as well. The rubber band will hold your lure in place until a fish strikes and snaps the rubber band and your leader will slide down to your barrel swivel above your lure at the ball.
  2. So you must run your boards out a pretty good distance? I have been adjusting my DR leads up to 60’ back but wonder if I should be back 100
  3. Wow, I was wondering if those were big tigers sitting on the bottom. I dropped my downrigger spoon and ran it 5’ over their heads without a bite. That’s a really nice one, good job
  4. This is an example of an extra large one that would work for this purpose
  5. Justin, was that one deep? I was out the other night and saw a few large marks on the bottom in 58-60’.
  6. Wow, nicest one I’ve seen this year. My nephew caught 4 this week but all low to mid 30’s
  7. Steelie. Sometimes on the water there are variations that can make you scratch your head or second guess yourself. The square tail gives it away before being able to see the mouth or spots.
  8. Wow, when i drove by it a few weeks ago it looked like nothing had changed since May. I’m sure it will be a big hangout/ party spot like the causeway. I like Ryfuns launch too, especially after the one up the lake was bent one day and swallowed my trailer guide-on and was a huge issue getting my trailer out of it. I see they fixed it now after what it did to my trailer but that sucked
  9. Nope, haven’t seen much progress since spring
  10. Nah, just add 5 lbs to compensate for blood and water loss 🤫
  11. I slice the gills but then drag them off the side of the boat on a rope to keep the blood off the deck. Then right on ice until they hit the dock
  12. That’s crazy, I can’t buy a fish after two trips out this season. Wasn’t marking them either though so I guess you can’t catch them if you don’t find them first
  13. Wow nice job! Did you run any spoons or all ff/ and meat?
  14. Yep, you can add a little plain salt to the brine if you want it firmer but I didn’t have any and it worked fine
  15. I used it last weekend. I cut it and brined it in Pautzke natural brine for 24 hours and it firmed up nice and held in the bait head very well. It didn’t take any strikes that day but I was at least impressed with how well it held up for what that’s worth
  16. From what I understand glow lures work best under low light conditions when they are able to actually glow where as UV lures reflect light rather than absorb it to make them brighter whenever light is present.
  17. I don’t have shark weights but they are fish shaped so I figured they would be more aerodynamic. The current may have played a role too but I was also trolling faster than my usual walleye speed
  18. That’s a good point too. I did take that into account this spring and measured the transducer to be 18” below the actual waterline.
  19. Exactly. One chart I read suggested when I had 100’ out I was only running 75’ down. Ouch
  20. I have only been using downriggers for 2 seasons now and haven’t been as successful as i hoped. After trolling for kings this past Sunday I noticed the blowback had to be close to a 45* angle with flashers and 2.8 mph troll and knew my set couldn’t be running as deep as I wanted. I just googled it and found a few charts and looks like I haven’t been even close to the depths I wanted to target. I’m using 10lb balls since I have manual crank DR’s. When you guys are setting your riggers are you compensating by letting out more cable to get to that targeted depth? Trying to figure out why I suck so bad when the bite is supposedly hot and I’m getting skunked
  21. Haven’t tried yet but have heard spoons run behind dipseys is a productive option
  22. I agree. I was hoping to try Shackleton and cast around unless they are deep
