  1. what about the braid loading up with fleas?
  2. thank you for all your post this year it certainly makes it easier for us weekend guys
  3. has anyone ever polished sutton spoons? i have some old ones and was going to try to make them shine again but dont want to use anything that is going to leave a smell on them.
  4. when the cold water moves on shore the lake has flipped. this usually happens after a couple days of strong north or northeast wind. you have to go to deeper water where the warm water and cold water meet. this usually results in some good fishing but the temperature break can be a ways offshore. in the fall there still may be matures in the cold water.
  5. I put my boat away the third week in october.you can use an outboard all winter. just tilt the motor all the way down right after taking it out of the launch and let all the water drain out, winterize the livewells and then plug them off so no water can get in.
  6. I would say they probably are. what kind of graph do you have?
  7. no I don't have dedicated rods. you can land a big fish on 17lb test if like I said if you don't hurry. my dad was a great fisherman who always fished with as light a line as possible. I do think the lighter line does make a difference some days. I know what your talking about with the flaser and flys but if your releases are set right and you play the fish until he is tired you will be ok. I do use 25lb test fluorocarbon on my wire slide divers.
  8. I add a 15' 17lb test fluorocarbon leader. would go even smaller pound test but don't always have experienced guys with me. if you take your time with the fish you will have minimal breakoffs. I used to use 12# test and landed many kings but I had guys that knew what they were doing back then. biggest salmon was 33-6 on 12# test. I use a uni to uni knot and seguar fluorocarbon. Ande mono 40# for fleas.
  9. nice fish and good report. is bob songin's report something he does every week ?
  10. no flasher with spoons. I always run a flasher and fly. I do think on some days it draws them into the spread.
  11. 4 for 4 one mature 3 juveniles 100-250. down 55 but caught all fish on sliders. Michigan stinger NBK standard size was the go to lure. nothing on flasher and flies. fished from about 6:30 to 11:30 then it got a little rough.
  12. nice report but just wondering if anyone was having any luck in closer. with the north northeast wind the next couple of days thinking it might bring the fish in a bit.
  13. how old is the battery? I change mine every four years. sometimes the plates get loose and that is not good. boat batteries take a lot of abuse.
  14. how are the fleas on lake Ontario? I havn't been in a couple of weeks.
  15. I like the eight inch for the spring and summer. once the kings start to stage I have some luck with the 11 inch. there is a lighted version which I am going to try.
  16. no question you ask is dumb. I am 64yrs old and have been trolling for trout since I was probably about 5 yrs old and I learn something every time I fish. whaler1 answered your question correctly.
  17. had a decent day with 3 rainbows and a small king along with about 6 other hits. best depth was 220 t0 250. down temp was all over the place. a beautiful day on the water.
  18. if you don't mind me asking how deep of water were you fishing. I am coming up to the oak tomorrow and would like some idea of where to start.
  19. eagle claw makes a good dipsey rod that you can use with wire. I always feel better putting on twill tip. check on fishusa they have some good stuff.
  20. I don't know where you are fishing but I would definitely fish the western basin if possible. .set your lines at different depths and stick with the stuff that works. google ace charters he has a lot of good tips.dont try and do to much until you get it figured out.
  21. were you east or west of the oak and how far away from the oak. thank you!
  22. if you are within driving distance of silver lake marine near Perry NY they have a good canvas man. 585-237-5185
  23. fished the oak today and only two hits. tried everything! fished from 40 out to 135. hardly any marks on the graph. water temp ranged from 46 to 50. tough day for me
